Harvard Club of Boston in Back Bay is a really beautiful and historic spot. A friend brought us in while I was in town running the Boston Marathon, and it was such a cool place to check out. The architecture and interiors give it that classic, old Boston feel, like stepping back in time. They even had posters set up so people could make signs for race day, which was such a thoughtful and fun touch. One of the underrated perks is the parking. If you have access, it is actually a really convenient place to park in a part of the city where that is usually tough. Glad I got to see it, and it is a great experience if you know someone who can bring you in. read more

Only three bites. Very small portion. I think the taste was not memorable, but husband thinks that it's pretty good. - polenta fries: this one is really good. 5/5. Very creamy. Well fried. My mom liked it a lot. - speck ham flatbread: 4/5. I think it's a bit too sweet and salty. Husband thinks it's pretty good. It tastes like honey plus blue cheese. Entree: - Fillet Mignon: 4.5/5. Very tender. Great sauce. Mashed potatoes with blue cheese were addicting. - Branzino: 4.5/5. very well done. Nice flavors. Very tender. - Veal: 3/5. Beefy taste and tender. There's many things to like about the Harvard Club, but one thing often unmentioned is that Veritas has the single-best steak in Boston.

Stayed here as a reciprocal from my club at home. Got in very late from my flight but they kindly delivered my dinner to my room. Solid room and very quiet for a downtown location. Breakfast in the morning was good and the service was very prompt. Great historic building with an awesome interior. This will be my go to spot going forward when I come to Boston. read more

However, if you can find your way through the wrought iron doors into the fancy schmancy old world building, complete with antique chandeliers and a blazing fireplace, you're in for a treat! The restaurant is fantastic, an elegant and refined oasis from the hustle and bustle of not only the city street outside, but also the hectic demands of the life and times of the Boston power players you'll certainly rub elbows with if you have the opportunity to dine here. Come for a three martini lunch, gorgeously prepared Sunday brunch, or an intimate dinner, but no matter what, you'll surely be pleased with the handcrafted and high quality spread they serve here. The Honey Almond Macaroons are a vintage Harvard Club treat, but if you want something really special, get the housemade Donuts, which come filled with raspberry jelly and drizzled with hazelnut and chocolate. Today, I tried the vanilla gelato and the blackberry merlot sorbet, and they were fantastic! The Harvard Club also offers accommodations to members, in simple but well furnished and clean rooms. They have a popcorn machine, too, as well as a menu of bar bites and full wine, beer, and cocktail accoutrements. Once you visit the Commonwealth Ave headquarters, you'll also need to check out the Downtown Harvard Club, located a stone's throw away from Downtown Crossing, perched high on the 45th floor of a skyscraper, offering stunning 360 degree views of Boston and beyond. What a great disappointment in this newly renovated Harvard club establishment. I never stayed overnight in the past but this was the first time I stayed there because we had a gift card that we won on auction. So considering that we received this room for the evening, would have it been great if Harvard had presented a great room for me to brag about? Yes... any logical person would understand that especially if it comes to marketing. On top of it I am an alum from Harvard extension and I keep on getting invites to join the club but I'm glad that I never did. The club itself has a nice historical value with the old mahogany wood in the ballroom and in the bar. I've been here many times before for networking events, parties and for dinner and being a guest to play squash. I expected after millions of dollars on renovation, they would sincerely upgrade the rooms. But they did not... My husband was equally disappointed considering he's a real estate broker and he wished he could brag about something worth bragging about. Clearly, this will not be the case. In fairness, the Harvard club staff were polite when we were greeted. The check in desk has changed as soon as you enter. The new Bar and restaurant on the right. The grand ballroom and the lounge area remains to be the same which is the good part but hotel rooms are far from the first-class standard which is a let-down considering Harvard's prestigious name. They look like old repainted dormitory rooms with brand new bathroom tiling and new furniture. Although I did have a decent sleep on the bed, it just didn't gel together with the old moldings and exposed alarms and fire sprinkling systems... Do I really need to see that on the ceiling? That exposed? All they needed to do was to cover up those pipes with either molding or I wood plaster cover. The moldings on the side boards we're old and cruddy but just painted over. What really bothered me is with the newly renovated bathroom with no bathtub in just a shower, there was no ventilation system so we basically had to open the window which was facing everybody else's room... There is no view and definitely no privacy. I just feel that when we had booked a reservation cuz it was for my birthday, I would expect them to respect the request for a nice room and to have some level of conscientiousness by communicating that they were still in renovation. When I reach the 5th floor a couple came out of their room saying, "I didn't know they were still renovating..." Not good guys! Oh you can hear everybody's footsteps outside. We had to wedge a towel on the bottom of the door to block out the sound. The Harvard name isn't going make the rooms look any brighter. Breakfast is not included too! This club needs to know that there are so many different upscale restaurants and hotels in Boston... So let's get real... On a brighter note they did supply two complimentary bottles of water placed on the old heating system. You get to self serve a Keurig tea or coffee which ran out of water in the morning. The tea last night had undertones of an uncleaned machine because I was tasting coffee in my chamomile. read more

Whenever I come up to Boston, my go-to place to stay is the Harvard Club. I love the wood-paneled walls throughout the space, which has a similar aesthetic to the Harvard Club of New York City. The food at their dining halls are good -- esp. the lobster bisque and the clam chowder. The staff is welcoming and helpful, and the location is pretty central and convenient. The Club is a few blocks away from the Newbury Street shops, gilded age mansions of Back Bay, and the Charles River, and it's a 15 minute car ride from Logan Airport. My only critique is that some of the hotel rooms need to be updated. One room (specifically Rm. 513) had some paint coming off a wall. read more

Stayed for two nights. Room was at best a college dormitory. Old broken furniture, tiny TV. The heating system, loud and slow to turn on. You could hear everything from next door and the hallway. For the price you can find much better hotels in Boston. Only good is location. read more

This is a review for the Harvard Club open house event, which was AWESOME. They have this event once per semester usually, and I think emails are sent out to recent Harvard alumni and graduates. I received an email and decided to RSVP. The Open House was held on a Wednesday evening from 5:30-7:30pm at the Harvard Club (located on the intersection of Commonwealth and Mass Ave). The inside of the club house is beautiful, with a grand staircase and multiple function rooms. We were in a smaller function room off to the side of their main ballroom. The food and drinks were incredible (all complimentary). There was a full service bar with beer and wine, and a buffet style table set up with hot and cold appetizers and finger food. Some of the hors d'oeuvres that I sampled included: Crispy fish bite on a waffle fry: very interesting combination that I would have never thought of on my own. The fish was perfectly fried and the waffle fry delicious crispy. Mini burger with bacon slider: decent, burnt wish it were warmer. Mine was a bit on the cold side. Grilled shrimp on a bed of polenta and sausage pieces: one of my favorite dishes of the night. The polenta was creamy and smooth, and the sausage smoky and a little spicy. Salmon sushi: delicious. The salmon was so fresh, and they had a crab dip that was served on top that gave the sushi a creamy dressing. There were other hors d'oeuvres as well that I haven't listed/didn't try. In addition to the buffet, servers passed around trays of beef carpaccio and beets stuffed with cheese. For dessert, there were platters of mini cake pops, chocolate truffles, and chocolate brownies. A grand and beautiful place where I have reciprocal member privileges from one of my clubs in DC. Fuddy-duddy? You bet your #ss. We pay for that and we like it that way. It's a club. Not a restaurant. It's private. Not open to the public. It's designed to pamper someone who has worked all his or her life to achieve excellence. We went over there with a large group. Despite the size of the group, we were served promptly and courteously. The Washington Room has the names of Harvard alumnus who have contributed to the formation of the country. From the Adams family to about half of the Founding Fathers of the nation to many of the movers in today's government. Awesome sense of history. We had an absolutely great time. read more

This is a review of the Harvard Club's restaurant. Incidentally, the front staff were quite solicitous, which I imagine is useful regardless of what you're doing here. Also, that bathroom under the stairs is amazingly modern and efficient considering its basically the shape of Harry Potter's bedroom. I spent a few minutes at the bar waiting for my hosts and the bartender was really nice! He chatted with me and gave me some tasty peanuts. All of the staff were kind and accommodating - they treated me like royalty even though I am not a Club member and as a public college grad felt like a plebeian interloper. The dining room itself is really beautiful, warm and quiet. My kind of place! The waiter, Brian, was incredibly polite and gracious. He even created a whole post-dinner cheese spread for us even though it wasn't on the menu! That said, the menu was incredible. I wanted to eat everything on it, but of course my true calling was the lobster bisque. Oh boy do I love lobster bisque. The bowl was small, but the bisque itself was perfectly balanced with richness and the sweet tang of sherry. I wish there were more lobster chunks but what I got was bite sized and delicious (if you're reading my lobster bisque list you know I hate a bowl of soup with seafood chunks so big you need to use your knife). They served us bread (and more bread) and butter with a little dollop of honey on top and it was to die for. Later, as part of the cheese spread, they served a chunk of honey comb. I've never had honey comb, nor did I realize it was even edible. I hope it wasn't destroying the hives of our last vestiges of American bees because I may need to wipe out that population eating their homes. Nom nom nom. The farm salad was totally fine, nothing to write home about but nothing objectionable either. read more

I was in town for a wedding and had the chance to stay at the Harvard Club (the groom's father is a big alum). Despite my cynical feelings towards Harvard, I couldn't help being impressed by the rich history of the club. It's got a sense of fuddy-duddyness, but in a charming way. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful, which made our stay that much more welcoming. Large guestrooms, nothing too fancy or modern, but there is wireless access throughout the building. You have to be a member to do anything here, including purchase drinks, and I kind of like that elitism. I'm a big fan of squash, and their on premises coursts were good reminders that's it pays to be a Harvard Man. The reception for the wedding I was in town for was also held in the building - the banquet hall we were in was grandiose and perfect for such an occasion. read more

I do judge books by their covers. I mean, c'mon, what is there to go on if you don't know about the plot? Especially these days.. book flaps used to have synopses but now they're all quotes about how fantastic the book is. ANYWAY... When I heard I had to go to a holiday party at the Harvard Club.. my snooty detector went full bling. What am I going to wear.. are the workers going to judge me.. what color will the carpets be in case I spill red wineee... you know. The usual. And by golly, was I blown away. The place was incredibly classy but comfortable classy. The workers were super friendly and the coat check woman and I even had a few laughs. The rooms do feel very Haaavvarrdd. Comfortable leather couches, somewhat dim lighting, fireplaces ablaze, portraits of dudes that looked like they hung with former US presidents, etc. There was an odd nutcracker that was lit by a spotlight. Methinks he comes to life.. I didn't want to joke with any of the employees though. I feel like they'd think a) I was crazy b) realize I was on to them and feed me to the dogs. The food was good, but sadly not as schmance as I had in mind. Different cuts of meat and 3 types of pasta. The dessert table was completely mauled by the time I got there, but the holiday cupcakes were pretty delicious. OOh.. and the acoustics were fantastic. There was a live band by the bar area and then singers in the main dining area (where there were also 2 satellite mini-bar areas). All in all.. I'd definitely head back if I were invited to a party.. but I don't know what lengths one must go to join.. I did wear crimson though. Maybe that's why they liked me? PS - I voted no.. it's not good for kids. My understanding is they won't let children in when there is a bar in use at an event. read more

I live next door to Harvard Club over 3 years now. And, I can only say how horrible they are to the neighbors. They overcrowd the parking lot at the back and block our fire alley with their guest cars. We do have some outpatients on the wheel chair and they have a hard time to get out through the cars. And, when we complained to the managers, one manager yelled and said "how dare you stand on our ground. Call the police for his trespassing." etc. He was too embarrassed to admit that their cars were parked unlike his previous denials. Since last year, they allow the chartered bus to pull over for hours at the second lane on Comm Ave, which blocks the traffic toward Mass. Ave. I find it very very selfish. And, I can't believe that the front desk staff never say anything to the drivers. The second incident was that they call in the trash removal trucks at 4am and make lots of noise and leave trashes all over the parking lot, which feed rats. Now, you will see more than 20-30 mice holes and they are still neglecting to do anything to stop it. Trash container lids are always open. Club kitchen guys miss the containers often and the trash bags were open spilling all the soiled water. Now we have mosquito problems entering the summer, which I have never seen in previous years. When I report the incidents, they just go nasty even though I remind them that this is a neighbor talk. Still, they get over-defensive and still do nothing but yelling. So, as a Harvard-MIT graduate myself, I don't see the top service doesn't get stretched beyond what the guests see entering from the front. When it comes to the real everyday issues in the neighborhood, they are the nightmares. Just check out how much trash you find on Newbury street (toward Kenmore sq). They never ever pick them up for once since I have lived here for 3+ years. Bad arrogant neighbors!!! read more

One of the best private clubs on earth, compares only to the NYYC. Private hotel amenities, valet parking, restaurants/bars from casual to dressed. Huge. Beautiful decor. Amazing staff. Phenomenal Squash courts. Gym is so/so. I suggest the person below find a more appropriate venue to release their frustrations about what the club is like as a "neighbor." You live on Comm Ave (one of the loudest streets in boston; I know I live down by the common), at the intersection of Mass Ave, along with the Charlesgate on the other side. You chose your location. Ahem. I've grown up here, the child of a Harvard grad and a Harvard professor. It is what you think it is, really -- a waspy spot (and proud of it!) with ridiculously delicious food and sort of funny celebrations (that don't intend to be, not at all). We've gone here for Halloween and Christmas as children, and for New Year's, Mother's Day, and the odd birthday ever since. Truly, I can't fault the food one whit (if you're being picky, my dirty fork that I dropped stayed on the floor, so if you're the type who cares about that, fault the servers), and the people-watching is UNMATCHED (and the watching of you -- YOU bring your big Israeli brother in the restaurant and see how many funny looks YOU get). All joking aside (though that bit about the Israeli brother is true), the Harvard Club is a reliable spot for a bit of fanciness. read more

We had our wedding reception at the Harvard Club (Main Clubhouse - Back Bay). Everything was fantastic. The banquet hall is absolutely beautiful with the antique tapestries/wall hangings, silver chandeliers and oversized fireplaces. We had a mid-fall wedding, so the dark paneling and lighting really fit the occasion. We continue to receive complements on the event (food, set-up, etc) - even three years later! I ended up getting stuck at the Harvard Club during the recent blackout and was highly impressed with the service we received. We were in the middle of having dinner when the power went out. Even with the power out the staff remained calm. The service we received was excellent. My aunt was concerned I wouldn't be able to get a cab back to my apartment--which was probably true since all of Back Bay was without power and the Mass Ave bridge was closed. She was able to within a short period of time switch her room to one with two beds so I could stay over. I think this was super accommodating in lieu of the situation. The staff also handed out to all the patrons LED flashlights. I was shocked at how prepared they were! Before the power went out we were able to grab a meal of food in the bar lounge. I had eaten out at several venues during the past week and have to say the food at the Harvard Club was the best of all. I look forward to my next invitation to visit/dine there. read more

Their membership and accounting departments are particularly skilled in the art of ignoring inquiries. Want a fabulous dinner? Go to one of Boston's bajillion other fine dining establishments. We just had our small wedding at the Harvard Club of Boston. The planner, Jennifer, was a pleasure to work with throughout the process, collaborating with us on the ever-changing guidelines and COVID restrictions. Due to the size, we ended up having the ceremony and reception in the Massachusetts room, cocktail hour in the Aesculapian room, and photos both outside and in the gorgeous ballroom. I came here for the wedding reception of an old renegade couple who eloped and needed a proper reception for all their friends and family. The dude was an elderly Harvard Biz prof and business man and the lady was the godmother of a dude I dated. Apparently I stole their hearts by eating 24 oz. of glorious prime, vacuum-aged beef at the Capital Grille, pigging out on a nice little 3 course meal at Harvest and showing them how brunch is done at some yacht club. Clearly I was just enjoying the free food...but whatever, can't help it if the old people love me. So the building is kind of old and you gain entrance by using the dingy phone outside. There was a shrimp cocktail buffet and tons of tea sandwiches which I "adorably" consumed. The Harvard guy's son who goes to Yale did a magic show for the kids which was painfully corny and one of the most moronic things I've had to clap and smile about. The staff is really nice and blend in nicely with the floral wall paper. The downstairs bar area is very "cigars and brandy", updated with the flat screen TVs for the younger alum. I didn't find this place particularly luxurious or special. I think alumni have an attachment to the history and name of the Harvard Club than the actual accomodations or amenities. Staying at the Harvard Club is like saying I'm rich AND I had sick SAT scores. Otherwise, the Four Seasons will be happy to take your money for much nicer facilities. read more

I came here with a friend for dinner and left with a really memorable service experience by the waiter who served our table. I ordered a turkey club without the mayo. The waiter brought my order out and placed the food on our table. He took a close second look at my sandwich and gently exclaimed that it appeared my sandwich had mayo in it...and it did look like it had mayo from the outer appearance on the side. He took it back immediately, leaving me to wait for a new order. Despite my friend receiving his order with no complaints, I ended up waiting about ten minutes or so, if I recall correctly, of the occasional random awkwardness associated with watching my friend eat his food. Although, I don't think my friend made any modifications to his meal. My food came back with apologies, I smiled and thanked him for noticing. At that point, I briefly reflected and knew that I would probably never experience or witness again what I had just experienced. At least for a while. Previous food orders with me tend/appear to be somewhat difficult with my, often small, modifications. At random times I would discover something wrong with my order once the food has been delivered to the table and then immediately the waiter/waitress would disappear to work on other tasks leaving me awkwardly hanging and waiting until I have to flag someone down to notify them of what's wrong. Not an ideal experience. I sense a lot of miscommunication and overconfidence when taking orders. Inaccuracy is what turns me off. In the end, I had never wanted to tip more than anything else. This feeling of happiness and gratitude was powerful in this case. To note other things: The downstairs restaurant is small to medium sized. Comfortable seating and not too loud. The restaurant was about half full, maybe slightly less than half full when I was there. So the noise level wasn't too bad, perfect, if not better than most restaurants that I've been to. Restaurant capacity aside, I really enjoyed the pleasure of easy listening, being able to think and having a conversation without yelling or raising my voice to speak when I'm out. It's what keeps me going. Everyone will experience something different here so reviews will differ. Fortunately for me, it was very positive. I left with a satisfaction high that was memorable and could never be replaced. read more

I went with my grandparents for dinner the other night. The building was nice, but nice for a frathouse rather than a clubhouse (I've seen better?) Service was as good as it should be at a Club. They were complaining at how hot their room was during their stay and I got food poisioning from dinner. Would definitely not go out of my way to come here again. read more

Three stars for food, five for service. We went for a special event and had a tapas spread. The food was good, but underwhelmed me. However, the service was excellent overall. All attendants at each entrance were very polite and helpful. It was a bit awkward at first as we arrived the same time as a wedding reception, and we almost got shuffled into the main space, but otherwise everything ran smoothly. Service at our gathering itself was superb, I kicked back and had my drink refreshed consistently by the friendly team member, who only had to ask the first time what I was drinking, and remembered the variables the rest of the night. The smaller rooms are elegant, and well situated on the upper floors. The space was well laid out for a more casual group our size looking to mix and celebrate. read more

Its okay. The building itself is beautiful, but a maze and confusing. The elevator takes forever, and the staff routinely uses it. Its uncomfortable to wait, and wait and wait, and see the doors open to a huge cart full of dishes (linens, coats, tools) so just step back and say "okay, i'll take the stairs". The backstairs to my room was only accessible through the main dining room. This meant that even after the gym, I had to walk through people's semi-formal lunches/dinners to get back to my room. So embarrassing. I actually stayed in one of the guest rooms, and it was okay. After my first night they removed my window unit aircon, so now I had no circulation in my room. The radiator never kicked on so it was quite cold at night (then hot during the say as they took my aircon). The bathroom was really spacious, and the tub/shower were new. Two mornings I had no hot water though (in early october). They have a grille, and a restaurant, but no room service. HUGE FAILURE. When traveling and working alone, why must I get dressed up, go downstairs, and eat ALONE? Why can't I sit in my room, and watch the office like a normal working loser? There is a library with 2 windows OS computers, a printer, and a large TV. I did have an interview via phone while I was there, and despite others in the library chatting, and working on their laptops (free wifi) the looks I got discouraged me from continuing with my conversation in the library. Even though other people were talking... The food is okay. I had 3 meals while staying here. 2 in the grille, and one in the main restaurant. Braised short ribs in the grille were good, not great. The asparagus was fresh. I also had a lunch here, a turkey club and that was quite large. The only night I ate in the restaurant I had a filet, and two orders of asparagus, and bananas fosters. The second wave of asparagus came out sizzling hot in a dish of butter. With my first bite, butter from the asparagus dripped on my bottom lip and burned me. I told the waiter, and he said 'sorry'. Bananas foster was decent, but served to me with a fork. A FORK?! And they never came back, ever. So I ate my melted ice cream with a fork. Its convenient to Boston, and very close to Newbury St. The staff are friendly, although a little dead behind the eyes. read more

I've got to give it up to the folks at the Harvard Club. They put up with forty of us bratty, arrogant kids at the Business School. On the flip side, the dining accommodations aren't as as nice as the lounge areas, and the food is really mediocre. The interior lobby and lounge areas look exactly like you thin The Harvard Club would look -- large comfy couches, oak, pictures of old white dudes. This disappears when you get into the smaller dining rooms upstairs, but you still feel rather grand. The service was tolerant, which under most circumstances probably qualifies as angelic. We were served quickly and quietly, while roughly forty of us toasted and made dirty jokes and threw napkins at each other. Lucky enough to have a 3 night stay here. Perfect - VERY spacious room, a little dated but clean and huge by present standards. Private, clean and wonderful. Reading rooms and space everywhere. The Grill restaurant is amazing. Loved the boiled lobster, and a lobster bake special for my wife. Great service, wonderful food, good prices. Would revisit anytime at all, fabulous and clasy. read more

Older, in need of updates. While clean and a friendly staff, this club with just a handful of guest rooms are in need of some TLC, brightening up and repair. Our room was on the dark side. Sheets were scratchy, and the shower had to be run for 4-5 minutes to get the water hot and even then, the water pressure/volume was disappointing. As someone with thick hair, It would have taken me forever to rinse shampoo out if it with this water supply. Lobby downstairs feels prestigious, though dark decor and stuffy. There is a small fitness room and squash courts, but no pool, outside seating area, which I was wishing for on the beautiful weekend we were staying there. If you are attending a an all-day conference at the Harvard Club, staying here would be convenient, but if not, another hotel with more amenities might be preferred, IMO. read more

My boyfriend is a member of the Harvard Club, so I join him here once in a while. He mainly uses it to workout. Some of the equipment in the weight room is a bit outdated, but it is well maintained and clean. The workout room with cardio machines is also great, and has about 8-10 tvs you can watch. (you will need your headphones to listen, though.) The equipment here is pretty nice, and I've never had a hard time getting a machine. The locker rooms are clean, tidy and accommodating. They have a supply of razors, q-tips and other basic toiletries that really come in handy. It's a very comfortable place for a work out. The Pucey reading room is a nice place to come and hang out, too. The tv is rarely in use, and has a full cable line up. There are also 2 computers for your convenience, and a printer. I'd really like to bring some work here one afternoon. It's very peaceful and quiet. My boyfriend and I sometimes grab a bite at the Grill Bar. Two words for you guys: lobster bisque. It's delightfully creamy and rich, with large chunks of lobster meat. If you order a bowl of it, that's plenty substantial for a meal. I highly recommend it. As a native New Englander, I can honestly say it's probably the best lobster bisque I've ever had in my whole life. So check out the club and use that membership! Bring your friends! The Harvard Club is generally pretty good. But such a bittersweet symphony is this Club. The Gym is good but far from great. The Club Staff is friendly but would certainly not go out of there way to help you out. Steam room/Jacuzzi is cool but the Men's Locker room is just short of totally disgusting. The locker room/changing room is carpeted- an old nasty rug that is practically glowing with bacteria and rash. The Grill is pretty good- I had a good tuna salad there today. But- the chips were seriously soft and the waitress was apparently enjoying a successful game of hide and seek (I lost). A cool Squash court and Boxing room, but a very confusing building layout which smacks of Harvard pretentious- if you don't know where it is we're not going to tell you. I am a member- I like it there on the weekends. Parking- good. Parking attendants- bad. Big room events - nice. Downstairs - not nice. read more

Attended a private event here, and I was very impressed with the entire operation. Having not been involved with the organization of the event, I can only speak for the dinner experience itself. FOOD: expertly-cooked filet mignon, slightly underwhelming chocolate cake dessert. Presentation was excellent though SERVICE: service was discreet, professional, and attentive. DECOR: yeah it's pretty fancy, takes you to a different age, old school Harvard that Harvard isn't even today, but for me it was a charming walk through the past read more
