Greg Hartlen contracting installed my windows many years ago. When he initially installed the windows, I noticed that there was not waterproof flashing on the bottom and up the sides of the window opening. I mentioned this to Greg and said that I did my research and this was not up to code. We went back-and-forth debating and finally I had to show him a sticker that was left on the window with the installation. Instructions showing that flashing had to be installed. He gave me a backhanded apology. Him come back and take out every window and do it properly.
I should've stopped there with allowing the contractors to do work, however being a single parent mother I needed help. He was also a close friend of a family member of mine so I wanted to continue to do work with him.
Later on, I had him do the siding on my home. It took years to complete and he still has not finished it today and complained that I owed him $1000. Greg in cash for these jobs and he said it would be better for both of us and wanted to avoid taxation.
When Greg did my siding, his workers did not put tuck tape on the exterior install installation seems and they did not put strapping around the entire portion of the house so now my siding dents in and out when you look at it from certain angles.
Furthermore, he did not use nails with the starter strips, and my siding is falling off my home. The top piece of the siding fell off many portions of the home, and this was not due to weather. It fell off because it was simply shoved up there. There were no nails to hold it in.
He also left a bottom piece of my house exposed and I had water damage into my home.
He also left my gutters exposed and did not put the caps back on, and I now have pest problems and birds in my gutters. He said that he would come back to remediate the problem that he had caused and never did this.
When I had to bring contractors back to try to finish the job, which is what is being done now, they were appalled with the work. One of my contractor friends had contacted Greg regarding the work he had done and he became very defensive and complained about a measly $1000 when he costed me thousands and will cost me more to fix what he's done. He hung up in my contractor's ear and was very unprofessional.
My back porch is still exposed, and he never finished the siding on the back. I feel that he took advantage of me because I'm a woman and he knew that I had financial strain being a single parent mom.
I have pictures attached in this review to validate my statements. I would like to proceed legal action against this, however many people have told me this would be very difficult because I had paid a lot of the job in cash.
Nonetheless, the job was not done up to code and any job that he did was not done up to code (Windows, and siding both). I would please urge anybody in the future not to utilize Greg Hartlen's contracting service services.
When I told Greg that I wanted him to fix what he had done, he became very defensive and I told him that I did not want to take him to court, but was contemplating it. He laughed and said I don't care what you do. I have insurance for that.
