I can't believe no one has written a review, or that I had to add this gallery to yelp at all! This is an amazing gallery! Was lured in by the Anthony Hopkins exhibit. Inside I was met with a plethora of images that it became hard for me to know where to look next. A gentleman approached and asked if he could help me, and pointed me in the direction of the Hopkins exhibit. I was staring at the vivid canvases in the room and he approached again and we discussed the exhibit as well as the many fine artists housed in the gallery; artists such as Rembrandt, Dali, Remling, etc... We even discussed my meager art collection! I love this place and will go back to take a picture of the front view so that fellow yelpers may flock to this gallery upon recognizing the building. read more

After dropping in this gallery for over 13 years -- and buying an expensive piece in 2007-- I was asked to leave one of the side viewing rooms. I was literally sitting on a sofa minding my business and I have no idea the reason. The irony is, this was the same guy who fed my girlfriend red wine until she bought a $6,000 painting 12 years ago (not to mention I've brought in a handful of friends when they visited the island). My family has owned businesses on Maui since 1983; I'll certainly be sharing this incident with friends and family here--if any of my friends ran their businesses like this their doors would have been shuttered long ago. More than just being an unnecessarily rude experience, just bizarre. read more

Harte International Galleries - Stop in for a nice treat for your eyes and soul. - Art Galleries Near Me - Lahaina, Hawaii

Can't believe we forgot to review this gallery on our last trip to Maui! Nestled near the banyan tree on Front Street in Lahaina, you get one of the coolest galleries you'll ever visit. It has Anthony Hopkins, Rembrandt and some newer artists as well. Scott Cleek was one of our favorites, he's on the front wall and his paintings exude romance that you can feel coming from his paintings. The gallery often has one of their artists in the front painting/working on their newest pieces...it really connects you to the artist, giving you a chance to meet and talk to them. We got to meet the owner and son Devon and they were nice to chat with...the sales associates were friendly as well. You can't take pictures in the gallery so you'll just have to take my word for it and visit the next time you're in Maui! read more

Was very impressed by the collection and the helpful staff (especially Nina). Would highly recommend seeing if you're in Lahaina!

I have been here several times. I feel bad because they offer you champagne and they really make you feel welcome. I guess some people think they can just hang around and drink their offerings. Go here. It gets more amazing every time I go. I saw someone buy a Dali for $50k. I was more excited than they were. read more

Employees were very nice and went out of their way to explain and present information in a no pressure atmosphere, welcoming us as a family. Art Galleries can be very elitist, even to those who are educated in the arts, and this was not the case. Multiple employees were very welcoming and seemed happy to have us just looking and appreciating the art. read more

Beautiful gallery!! We purchased the crystal & the owner was very helpful in following up and making sure we received it. Highly suggest visiting this place as it is top of the class compared to other galleries in the area. read more

My friends and I were looking for art pieces to add to our collection. We were in the middle of looking and talking about a Picasso piece when the blond receptionist made a comment saying that the piece was $29,000 and implying that it was out of our budget just because we look young. Then after her, a bald middle age guy with a big stomach and a black button up shirt came in the show room we were at and removed the painting I said I liked and told us to leave because it's reserved for clients and it's the store's money room. Then he proceeded to disrespect my friend who asked about the paintings' authenticity and asked my friend if he has $1000 to bet on it before laughing us off and walked out. How can you act so pretentious while you work late hours at an art gallery on a Monday night? We didn't even want to buy anything after this interaction with the employees and just got drinks at Dirty Monkey upstairs which serves great drinks and no one was rude to us. read more

A friend and I visited this gallery last night, drawn by Woodrow Nash's incredible ceramic sculptures, in a style he created called African Nouveau. As we--one Black woman and one white woman--entered the gallery, the two men attending the store continued to sit in their chairs along the wall and chat with one another. They glanced our way but said nothing to us as we looked at Nash's work. Moments later another woman entered the store. One of the men immediately rose from his chair, walked over to her, politely greeted her, and asked if she'd like more information about the artists. The contrast in treatment was stark. Not lost on us was the irony of this gallery displaying a Black artist's work while mistreating a Black customer. read more

Go here and talk to Dan. My girlfriend and I had the most amazing experience here looking at the art and getting the background stories behind all of the pieces. Quick 20-30 minute tour. HIGHLY recommend. Will absolutely come back to Dan when we want to buy some art. read more

**Don't waste your vacation visiting this gallery unless you've got a lot of money that you don't know what to do with and are okay with being treated poorly by the staff.** Short version: -I was pushed out of the gallery for wearing a nice graphic t and shorts after being barked at that this wasn't a free museum. -When I went in a few nights later dressed business casual, I was completely ignored by the staff. -The gallery lights are too yellow for the art. -Overall unimpressed with the quality and variety of art they have on display. -The overall feeling I got from the gallery is that it's someone's personal collection that doesn't want to sell unless they can charge an egregious sum of cash from it. Nothing to boast about having in your collection other than the few Rembrandt sketches and one Matisse. Everything else is pretty generic. ______________________________________________________________ The long version: The gallery staff only treats you well if you look like you have money otherwise they'll treat you like street trash and escort you out off the gallery. I've gone into this gallery twice: once dressed in a graphic tee and baggy shorts as it was the first day of my vacation and once dressed for Fleetwood's as I had just had dinner there and was genuinely interested in the gallery's art. The first time I went in (baggy shorts and tee) I had hardly gotten 5 steps into the gallery before the lady behind the counter barked out that this wasn't a free museum. Thinking that she was yelling at someone else, I ignored her and continued walking through the space. I had made it through to the middle of the gallery before another guy (tall dude with gray hair and thick white facial hair) aggressively approached me and scolded me for being in their gallery looking like a beach bum. He then walked me to the door and hurriedly pushed me out. A few nights later I had just had dinner at Fleetwood's and was dressed business casual. Needing to walk off a couple cocktails, I figured I'd go back to the gallery to get a better look at the art. When I walked in, the gallery staff was all huddled at the front counter drinking their own champaign and scrolling on their phones - none of them acknowledged I had walked in and from the looks of it, not many people had been walking into the gallery before me. It looked like a ghost town. Having not been barked at just for walking in, I continued walking the gallery and was ignored by the staff - there was one guy lounging on one of the couches in a side room scrolling on his phone, he clearly worked there as his picture is featured on their website. I made it all the way through the gallery and was about to head out before anybody talked to me. When they did initiate a conversation, it was very halfhearted "hey, thanks for coming in." from across the room. I would not recommend this gallery to anybody visiting Lahaina. If you really want to see their inventory, look on their website. You'll get the same amount of customer service there without being pushed out the door for wearing vacation clothes. Negative 10/10 stars. read more

***UPDATE*** In response to the owner's comment below: Write*. If you reread my review, you will notice that I never once said we insulted the artist's work. The artist assumed we did, sprinted over, and began verbally harassing and screaming at us throughout the store. Well, sadly your response does nothing but validate my original review. Customers, if you're looking for a hostile, rude, aggressive shopping experience, look no further! This is the place for you. What a disgrace to the art community. Good luck to you and your fine gallery, sir. **First review** Where do I begin? How about the beginning of the Main Street in Lahaina where all the galleries begin. We went through each gallery and were treated with respect and kindness. When we stumbled upon Harte International Galleries we were excited to go in and make a purchase for our new home. We wanted a few new paintings and this place seemed to have some potential. As we looked at the obscure paintings by the main entrance and discussed our thoughts on it, a man sprinted over from across the room almost knocking over other customers in his path to hear what were saying. He caught the tail end of our comment, and he aggressively got in my fathers face yelling that he was the artist, and demanded to hear what we said about his artwork. It was so bizarre we thought he was kidding. As we tried to walk away to diffuse the tension and enjoy our first family vacation we've had together in a decade, he continued to harass us through the entire gallery. The owner tried to salvage what was left of this horrible experience but it was one squeezed sandwich too late. Sure it's possible this guy was just having a rough day or hasn't sold a painting in a while, but that's no excuse to treat potentially PAYING customers like that. You lost that one. To give the gallery credit, it has some beautiful paintings. Just some advice to the owner, if you're going to have artists in the gallery, they need to be able to handle criticism! No worries though, we found 5 paintings down the street from the other amazing vendors spent our money there. To other customers, If he is around I STRONGLY suggest you're not. read more

My family and I come to Maui every year. This is the first time we walked past his place and saw really great tribal and ethnic art. I happened to be on my phone when I walked in the building, the man at the front said plain and simple no photos! In a rude deep voice. As if I were going to take photos of his precious art. Instead of saying aloha, or hello welcome, no photos please. He made the Brutal mistake to be rude to customers. We may have purchased something here. You never know. Based on this experience, I do not recommend the store, both employees were very rude and argued with us in the public. Unprovoked as well. Aloha read more

I like this place! I've been in here a few times before and this time we only went in as I love the Anthony Quinn painting at the back of the gallery and wanted to see it one more time. We were greeted by friendly staff and he was happy to show us the painting again. As we browsed the paintings we came across one that we really liked and decided that we wanted it and so the process of negotiation started. As part of the buying process we asked them to ship it to us and the only reason I am taking off 1 star is that it took maybe 5 or 6 weeks for it to arrive, which seeing as we've had items shipped in 2 to 3 weeks seemed a very long wait. Happy shopping Aloha read more

We were pulled in by an exceptional Miró piece and it just got better and better. So many impressive pieces from Dali to Anthony Hopkins! Will be starting a separate savings account for my next visit so I can actually go home with a piece! read more

Excellent art gallery, would definitely come again. This is a real art gallery. Ask for Glenn he's the best.

If in want of a multifarious art experience, don't miss out on a visit to Harte Galleries. This is not a typical Island art exhibition, but a mini-museum of world renowned Masters as well as Contemporary Artists. The works are exhibited in such a distinct manner that emits a feeling of intimacy allowing you to escape into your canvas of choice. Each time I visit is a unique opportunity to stimulate my senses with striking beauty and awe-inspiring talent from Rembrandt, Renoir, Mapes, Higgins, the Bone family, just to name a few, to the exciting works of my favorite movie star, Anthony Hopkins. Harte Galleries is a "can't miss " if you find yourself in Maui. read more

Rude, rude, rude!!! Would rate this place a 0 if I could. Will never step foot in this gallery ever again!! My husband and I took our friends who were visiting Maui to Front Street. Walked into this gallery and the first thing a man who worked there said, "You should stop talking so you can actually pay attention to the art." I looked at him to see if he was joking because I couldn't believe what he just said...he clearly wasn't. Mind you it hadn't even been 10 seconds that we walked in and we weren't being obnoxiously loud or anything...just having a regular conversation. No signs saying, "No talking allowed"...and we weren't on a tour. We were so caught off guard by his remark we didn't know how to reply. My friend then turned her head to look at the wall next to her and he continues to say, "Ok now you are looking at the art." We were absolutely appalled by his behavior treating us like we were little kids. So caught off guard we didn't know how to reply....just turned right around and walked back out. Employees need to be trained how to treat their customers. Will never go here again. read more

This art gallery is like many on front street. We got to meet a great artist Scott Cleek while we were there. We worked with Alex to buy a few pieces of Scott's art and he made the transaction and the meeting with Scott great. Devon helped finalize pricing and was great to work with. This would be a five star review except for the father who owns the store. We went in the day before meeting Scott to look at a few of his pieces again so we could have a good idea of what we wanted to buy the following night. He kept trying to force us to buy the pieces that day and reminded us they might not be there the following night. While that is true they were there for a week already what was another day. It was a risk we were willing to take. We were the only customers in the gallery. When we found out we were not going to buy that day he walked away and didn't say another word to us. Without the service of Alex or his son Devon and meeting Scott in person. we would not have bought anything at this gallery. It is amazing how different the father is from Devon. Again, Devon and Alex thanks for your help and saving the sale. read more
