My experience was great here! This was my first time due to me having to change due to my…read moreinsurance. Making an appointment was easy. I did everything online, but you also have the paper option. The process was really smooth. Once you make your appointment, they send out various reminder text to keep you updated and reminded about your appointment. One the day of, you fill out the demographic and health history form (which was a breeze). They checked me in and took me to the back quickly. I had a thorough screening. The doctor is very smart and have advanced technology. When I was done, the tech took me to the front and help me pick out glasses that best suited my preference. I enjoyed my experience. Hubby and I have found the right place for us.

The midtown eye care clinic was decently close to my home and Dr.Powelson had great reviews. So I bit the bullet and decided to schedule an appointment. The staff was very courteous and the doctor was phenomenal. As I've mentioned to him at my appointment, this has been the more extensive and helpful appointment I've ever had with an optometrist. We even slightly discussed lasik (we would have discussed it more but at the time I am not a candidate for it). Dr.Powelson actually teaches how to perform lasik at the school in town as well. So if you're looking into that option, or looking for anything pertaining to your optometry needs, I absolutely recommend going to Midtown Eye Care and seeing Dr.Powelson. They also had a decent selection of eyeglass frames in the clinic. Brands such as Kate Spade, Ralph Lauren, Oakley, Ray Ban, Lacoste, Sketchers, amongst others. Prices were beyond reasonable. Instead of going through the eye dilation situation that everyone hates about optometry visits, they have this new machine where you put your eye towards a lens and use your face to press into it until you change the blue light in the lens to green and it scans a photo of the back of your eye. It does cost extra, but it is very affordable and your eye scans get stored in their database. Midtown Eye Care also fits and makes lenses on location, although some insurances do require them to send the frames out to their own lab and the lenses be made and fit there and then they'd send it back to the optometry clinic and you go pick them up. I would recommend this place over and over again. This time, I'm actually looking forward to my next optometry visit.

I was looking for another eye doctor after not being impressed with my old one. My mother suggested…read morea big chain eye place, but I was not sure about it. I came across Clearview Family Eyecare through research. I read the reviews, and they were impressive. So, I decided to make an appointment there. Once I came in, I was taken in right away. Sonam and Dr. Seth examined my eyes. Dr. Seth told me the options with my eyes. I was so thankful for those. He was also friendly and relaxing. After being examined, I was able to pick my glasses. They were so affordable. Sonam went over the pricing, and I was not pressured to add on stuff. My glasses came in four days later, which was quicker than I expected. I got a text at work before lunch that my glasses were there. And I picked them up during my lunch. It didn't take me that long. I had my glasses adjusted, was given supplies to clean my glasses and a case, and I was on my merry way back to work. I really enjoyed my time at Clearview Family Eyecare! Everyone was so friendly and there is even a dog there! This will not be the last time that I will be at this place. I will recommend Clearview to anyone that is looking for a new optometrist.

I always thought I might eventually sit down and write about my disappointing experience at…read moreClearview--and here we are. To be fair, my first visit was pleasant. The staff seemed friendly, efficient, and professional. Unfortunately, my second visit for a contact lens fitting was a completely different story. After my initial appointment, I waited over a month to be scheduled for the fitting. In fact, I had to reach out myself to find out what the delay was. By the time they got back to me, it was a new calendar year and my insurance deductible had reset--an expensive inconvenience. When I finally received the lenses, it was immediately clear they were not my prescription. I couldn't see at all with them in. I kept the packaging to examine it later, but the associate became visibly upset and demanded I return it without giving me a chance to look. When I asked for a copy of my updated prescription, they simply provided me the same one I had brought in from my previous doctor. No changes, no explanation. So what exactly had I been fitted with? I still don't know. Dr. Salley then informed me that if I wanted to try multifocal lenses that might actually work, I'd need to pay an additional $80. This was after already paying $130 for a "premium" fitting and follow-up. At that point, it felt like I was being strung along with no real plan to improve my vision. I've worn contact lenses for over 40 years--I don't need to pay for a fitting just to be handed the same prescription I walked in with, especially when the trial lenses were clearly not that prescription. Despite having vision insurance, I still paid around $300 out of pocket. Without insurance, it would've been over $400--and that's before the multifocal upgrade. On top of that, they pushed pairs of glasses that cost nearly $1,000. The frames were uninspired and overpriced, and I couldn't justify the cost, especially given the lack of confidence I had in their recommendations. To make matters worse, Dr. Salley's demeanor had completely changed between visits. On the first visit, he was pleasant and friendly, though he refused to even glance at a small bump on my eyelid, instead offering a referral to a surgeon. (Thankfully, the accommodating Dr. Google suggested it was likely a harmless milia, something I would think an optometrist could have just told me.) On the second visit, he acted like we'd never met. He sent in an intern to do the exam, and when he arrived he simply refused to believe anything I said. He contradicted everything we had previously discussed--on the first visit saying multifocal lenses weren't effective and he didn't recommend them, now insisting they were the only option. It was confusing and frustrating. And while this may seem minor, Buster the office dog--cute as he was--clearly needed more frequent bathroom breaks. The smell of old urine warmed by the afternoon sunlight streaming through the waiting room window was unpleasant and unprofessional. In the end, I left Clearview with no usable prescription, no glasses, and a significantly lighter wallet. I had hoped for clarity--literally and figuratively--but instead, I got confusion, inconsistency, and a disappointing lack of care. Could I have pushed it and made myself a nuisance and annoyed them until they did more? Yes. I could have. But I no longer care to guide a business on the provision of quality customer service when there are dozens of other options available. Yelp lists 240 optometrists in Memphis TN. There are practices at Costco and the mall that treat their patients with more care than this boutique practice- and the local college of optometry is graduating new practitioners every year.

A doctor reviewed the student's diagnosis. Both were wonderful. We got our new glasses at The Focal Point (Concourse), which is affiliated w/the school. We were pleased with the selection and with the care they took to explain lenses, coatings, advances, etc. When I found my night vision still wasn't right, I went back to the school and saw Dr. Raja. She checked the lenses to make sure the prescription was correct, which it was. She gave me clear and detailed explanations of why I was still having troubles. She was wonderful and when I demurred having cataracts surgery at that time, suggested I try their Dry Eye Center, at the Concourse location. Unfortunately, I got sick and missed (as in completely forgot) the appointment. Still having night vision problems, I have asked for a referral for cataract surgery and further consult w/Dr. Raja. I am fully confident in the doctors at the school and know whatever next step they recommend will be right for me. As I had lost Dr. Raja's card, I called and the call was courteous and respectful. I know the place can get crazy busy, especially after 3 pm, but it is an excellent facility and neither my husband or I (who are both skeptical about medical care in general) have any complaints, only praise. Highly unusual. Get there in the morning, it's wide open. If the desk people seem short, they have always been helpful when we've dealt with them and their kiosk sign-in works like a charm. I highly recommend the Eye Center. Our insurance covered everything, but it is an excellent practical choice for anyone, insurance or not. Everyone here in Memphis we've talked to about it agrees.
