Small Fish & Chips
Vikkie N.

We were in Bournemouth for a concert and having not been to Harry's for decades (we went to the original in Guiseley when we were kids), we figured that it was time for a revisit. To be fair, the service got the 4 stars. The food, probably just 3 - not that what I got wasn't nice, it was, it was just on the small size. The menu did say 'small', what it should have said was 'child size'... Even if you're a girl and eat like a bird, go for the medium if you're any kind of hungry.

I was really after some dirty, in paper fish and chips that you can only get at the seaside, however Bournemouth only seems to offer Harry Ramsden as the main chippy. It is a nice restaurant and the service was very good, pleasant and quick. I opted for a haddock and chips, my companion a cod and chips and we both had a soft drink each. The total bill came to around £27 as the fish and chips were around £12. Expensive but then if you were to go to a pub and order fish and chips, it would be the same price. The food came with bread and butter as well. It was a decent sized portion of fish and chips and was quite tasty. I have to say that I did enjoy the meal however I couldn't finish all of the chips! If you're in Bournemouth and fancy fish and chips, definitely check it out!

Regular cod and chips

Really enjoyed this branch of Harry Ramsdens! The service was quick and efficient and very friendly! I opted for a regular portion of cod and chips, which was served with mushy peas, tartare sauce with bread and butter on the side. It was a generous portion and tasted great! For dessert I had the cinnamon waffles (without the chocolate sauce) which was really yummy and not over powering with the cinnamon. I also had a glass of Pimms which was served perfectly with mint, cucumber, lime and strawberries. It was lovely and refreshing! Would definitely return here again :-)

Big breakfast

This place has an excellent location (right by the beach with a great view). The amount of food we got for the amount of money spend was very little. If you're going there with two people i would reccomend the big english breakfast and share it (if you want to go for the english breakfast). We did the math and you definitely get more food for your money with the big english breakfast platter. Overall the staff kinda forgot about us a little and served the table next to us. Also, they did not tell us we had to pay at the counter on our way out so we were sitting at our table for ages waiting to pay.

Two plates of regular cod and chips and three plates of regular haddock and chips with mayonnaise and tartare sauce!

I am a big fan of fish and chips and this chain is the perfect place to go to satisfy that craving! I am currently on holiday with a few girlfriends and we wanted an authentic fish and chippy feel for our lunch today. The service is friendly, the queue was not a long wait at all (5 minutes maximum) and the food was incredibly tasty! Located almost 2 steps from the pier and the main beach amusements it it perfect for a family or a couple meal after some fun on the beach! Highly recommended and very much satisfied!

Harry Ramsden's - the biggest and the best? Maybe.

A very pleasant seaside experience. Sat inside to avoid the chilling wind, the decor is clean and stylish and the menu extensive - obviously battered fish was the main draw here. Lovely haddock, although not the biggest. The fish was cooked beautifully tho and the chips were standard. Mushy peas and gherkin flavoured tartar sauce gave a lovely moist twang. Staff not really attentive or organised and felt they were concentrating on getting tips, but on the whole good service. You can't beat fish n chips by the seaside!

Our group of four had a fun, fantastic late lunch of fish and chips. The soup was curry parsnip and I loved it.

We were in a miserable hotel called West Cliff for 2 nights. The steam room was cold, it had no steam and the aromatherapy room had no aroma so I was in the cold hot tub thinking about dinner and explaining to locals how a miserable spiv manager here had refused me a fried egg at breakfast; apparently they had no fresh eggs. I said we were going to have the dinner offer they advertised but decided no more business for here. No fresh eggs my derrière. The locals told me to get breakfast in the Westbourne pub and raved about Fred's so we walked here on a lovely summer evening. We arrived after a 15 minute walk on a Tuesday night. It was packed out which was a great sight. The take - away too had crowds waiting patiently for their on-line orders. They smiled, took our number and said they'd call in about 30 minutes. So we had to go to a nearby pub (The Westbourne recommended for breakfast) a few minutes away; 1st world problems. Again this place was also busy for a Tuesday night albeit a pleasantly warm night. I had a pint of neck oil and my wife had a glass of rosé - £11.15. About 3O minutes passed and the phone rang...our turn. The sit-in part was still crammed full of happy people being served up delicious fish & chips and typical British desserts like lemon sponge, knickerbocker glory and sticky toffee pudding. So we opted for a Fred special (£17.95) as it got us prime cod and unlimited chips, mushy peas, their home-made tartare and coleslaw. We also got a bread roll with butter and a choice of wine or half pint of beer. The mushy peas were really exquisite. We could have had tea or filter coffee in the deal too. My wife got two rosé from the deal. I opted to pay extra for a pint of Piddle. I'd never heard of it but it was a tasty local beer. Everything was just perfect. We were offered more chips but we didn't finish the first lot. We were so full we had to forgo dessert. If I could give Fred 10 stars I would. If I could set Fred up in my home town I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thank you Fred and staff.
