The food is very good, and I enjoy the use of beef dripping. I ate here twice during a recent trip and the first time the service was fine. The second time, on a quiet Sunday night, the service was terrible. You get a different person for every element: menu, water, take order, bring order, follow up, bill. I don't drink so all I wanted was a glass of water, which only came after the food was served and I reminded the guy. It is difficult to flag down servers because it's almost as if they have been trained not to look at customers. But I should have known: the worst time to be in stores and restaurants is when things are quiet. The staff are doing other things - cleaning, setting tables, stocking etc. You get much better service when things are busy. Generally restaurants should put something, anything, in front of a customer while they wait for their food. Water, bread or bread sticks, whatever. I waited a loooong time at that table with nothing to do. The worst was paying bill - there was no one around. I was tempted to leave without paying because Harry's really didn't want my money. Recommendations: Harry's should use a regular time-tested policy for service with a waiter and bus boy assigned to a certain group of tables. Now the customer can know who their server is. Then, check on customers before, during and after the meal to make sure everything is okay. read more

We were in Bournemouth for a concert and having not been to Harry's for decades (we went to the original in Guiseley when we were kids), we figured that it was time for a revisit. To be fair, the service got the 4 stars. The food, probably just 3 - not that what I got wasn't nice, it was, it was just on the small size. I was really after some dirty, in paper fish and chips that you can only get at the seaside, however Bournemouth only seems to offer Harry Ramsden as the main chippy. It is a nice restaurant and the service was very good, pleasant and quick. I opted for a haddock and chips, my companion a cod and chips and we both had a soft drink each. The total bill came to around £27 as the fish and chips were around £12. Expensive but then if you were to go to a pub and order fish and chips, it would be the same price. The food came with bread and butter as well. It was a decent sized portion of fish and chips and was quite tasty. I have to say that I did enjoy the meal however I couldn't finish all of the chips! Really enjoyed this branch of Harry Ramsdens! The service was quick and efficient and very friendly! I opted for a regular portion of cod and chips, which was served with mushy peas, tartare sauce with bread and butter on the side. It was a generous portion and tasted great! For dessert I had the cinnamon waffles (without the chocolate sauce) which was really yummy and not over powering with the cinnamon. I also had a glass of Pimms which was served perfectly with mint, cucumber, lime and strawberries. It was lovely and refreshing! Would definitely return here again :-) read more

Our group of four had a fun, fantastic late lunch of fish and chips. The soup was curry parsnip and I loved it.

This place has an excellent location (right by the beach with a great view). The amount of food we got for the amount of money spend was very little. If you're going there with two people i would reccomend the big english breakfast and share it (if you want to go for the english breakfast). We did the math and you definitely get more food for your money with the big english breakfast platter. Overall the staff kinda forgot about us a little and served the table next to us. Also, they did not tell us we had to pay at the counter on our way out so we were sitting at our table for ages waiting to pay. read more

My boyfriend told me this was the best place for fish and chips. I guess he read the massive words on the front of the building where it says: World most famous fish and chips. Never heard of it. I ordered scampi and fires and both were just average. My scampi where only 8, that you won't expect with that price and being take away. My boyfriend had cod with chips. The cod was quite ok and the portion was massive. So basically he made a good order choice and I made a terrible one. I am a big fan of fish and chips and this chain is the perfect place to go to satisfy that craving! I am currently on holiday with a few girlfriends and we wanted an authentic fish and chippy feel for our lunch today. The service is friendly, the queue was not a long wait at all (5 minutes maximum) and the food was incredibly tasty! The fish and chips we're lovely, although quite a small portion of chips compared to the huge fish. I think the only reason this place gets so busy is the position (well obviously). The portions are so small and yet the prices are so expensive and the food wan't even that great, it was just ok. i also wish the staff could speak a bit better english. i would highly recommend going to a chippy in boscombe and then driving to boscombe beach as it doesn't get so busy and you can find a bench. Yesterday evening we were in Harry Ramsdens, Bournemouth for a family meal. Just myself, my wife and our 23 month old son - who had heart failure aged 13 days, has had 2 complete cardiac collapses and is only with us today because of the incredible medical staff who worked tirelessly to save him coupled with a miracle. During our meal we encountered a rude man, also out for a meal with his family - he walked past us and glared nastily, directly at our son, he then proceeded to complain about the noises our 23 month old son was making - insisting on being moved as the noises were apparently "irritating". The manager moved him and his family as one would expect, my wife the asked the manager to tell the man about Cameron's medical background - making it known that he may well have underlaying issues and we were saddened by his actions. The manager then proceeded to tell us that our son had also "irritated" a number of other guests - I'm not sure where the professionalism is in that statement of hers! Obviously the rude man was not the fault of Harry Ramsden's the issue lays in us being told that our son had "irritated" a number of guests - He's a one year old with every right to be in the restaurant for his dinner. We paid for our food lie every other diner in there, we will not apologise for our son! Our son didn't spend 35 nights on full life support, fighting for every breath, fighting with every heart beat - to be singled out, to be a problem to be treated as if he is a freak! Harry ramsdens is set in an idyllic place right on the sea front at Bournemouth. I love sitting here in the evening when you can watch the waves crashing in over the beach. The restaurant is large and spacious with plenty of tables. They are family friendly which helps a lot when deciding on where to eat. The food is obviously all fish and chips but your fish can be cooked in a variety of ways which makes it a good change from just battered if you don't want it that way. The prices are average for a good sized portion of fish and chips, with plenty of condiments available to you if you need them. read more

Gets very busy during peak season. This is not beacause the food is excellent or the service wonderful! Tourists see a name they recognise & don't know the area well enough to find somewhere better. We popped in here at the weekend and instead of getting a takeaway as we usually do, we decided to eat in the restaurant. I wasn't expecting much really, but was pleasently surprised at how nice the restaurant actually was. A very pleasant seaside experience. Sat inside to avoid the chilling wind, the decor is clean and stylish and the menu extensive - obviously battered fish was the main draw here. Lovely haddock, although not the biggest. The fish was cooked beautifully tho and the chips were standard. Mushy peas and gherkin flavoured tartar sauce gave a lovely moist twang. I waited so long. I had to watch others who ordered more and after me get there food before me. So my order finally came, they got it wrong. Got given 2 reg chips and cod. I was too hungry to complain. Did not get asked if I wanted Salt, vinegar or any kind of sauce to accompany the fish and chips. I think I was just unlucky that day to be served by the most retarded combination of employees the site has. I should have gone to Chez Fred. Slightly longer walk from the part of the beach I was chilling at. The chips sucked. The cod was average, had better. Nothing world famous about this place. Waste of such a good location. read more

Very suprised at the quality of the fish and chips here. Prices are a little steep as it has a seafront location but great to visit when you get hungry and really want fish and chips. Gets very busy in the summer months, expect to be queuing out of the doors and around the corner. We went here soon as they opened at 11.30am, as it was chucking it down of rain and we were all hungry and thirsty. We had the kids sausage and chips with a drink, chicken burger and chips, large sausage in batter which was all nice, the chicken fillet burger was really nice and you got lots of chips with it. The girls liked there meal and it was nice just looking out onto the sea in the takeaway cafe instead of the proper restaurant as the prices did bump up abit in there. This is situated right on the seafront next to the pier at the pier approach. There is a large car park but unfortunatlely it gets very busy and you have to pay. The restaurant attracts large crowds of people in the summer season and this effects the quality of your visit. The food is great but quite pricey but you do get a lovely view over the seafront. You can get takeaways as well but again it gets pretty busy in the summer. Not a good location if you need to drive but great if you are staying in a local hotel. read more

Harry Ramsdens is a consistently good place to eat fish and chips but there is a formula to minimise the otherwise high cost of such a simple meal. They do it well but charge a premium for the name and in the case of Bournemouth, they charge for the position in the town. It is a natural place to end up after a walk along the beach and it gets too busy to cope at times leading to very long queues of hungry families and a hurry up feeling if you are already eating. We have used this place several times in the hope that it would get better. The advert on the wall says Harry Ramsden's probably the best fish and chips in the world. Well that is if you like poor value for money, black and green bits all over your chips. Once they were so bad we took them back and showed the staff and they said, yes your right , but didn't do anything about it! Fish that is a distant cousin from the real thing, I am sure they shop at Iceland. We went in the Restaurant once , just as bad. The bread and butter,extra. I had to get a magnifying glass to find the butter on the cheap thin economy bread. As previous write- ups say, it is location,location,location. Went in here this weekend after staying the night after we saw Placebo at the O2 Academy Bournemouth. It is located perfectly right by the pier and beach, best fish and chips! The sign on the front states 'the worlds most famous fish and chips' and you can't argue with that. Yes they're pricey but if you get a cod and chips you will have money well spent. My only gripe would probably be that if you're taking away it isn't always instant as we were waiting for about 10-15 minutes for the scampi to cook, however this didn't matter as we stated we were eating in anyway. The fish we were served as "Large" Haddock could have been anything as the skin was missing! They certainly weren't tasty and didn't measure up to my idea of large.
