St Mikes has gotten a bad rap. I've always felt the staff and facilities are top notch and they…read morekeep growing . Though sad that our older, much smaller local Harrison Hospital is no more, I understand there were economic reasons. . What we do have is a very modern, very gorgeous, and always growing medical facility! And I've recently learned there is a strong and binding mandate for non-religious affiliation despite the name. I love that my oncologist moved from a smaller, much older independent location in Poulsbo to a fully functional Oncology Center. Dr Sirisha Jain saved my husbands life diagnosing a one in a million auto-immune blood disease (and treated me the following year) and now she has the facilities and colleagues to work miracles on so many others! The realities of the understaffed, undersized ER and other departments Covid/post-covid have been and are being addressed with stable staffing replacing traveling nurses, the opening of urgent/emergency satellite locations and alternatives, and the development of residency and other training programs which are growing highly capable, local talent choosing to stay in our community . It was bad, and so was COVID; hopefully they'll be better prepared for the next major stress testing both by heart patients and our community as a whole! I had a 95 year old friend fall and shatter his hip. Surgery was attempted but there was not much that could have been done and he passed 2 weeks later. During those weeks, the care he received was world class! After a short stint on the orthopedic floor, he was transferred to the top for hospice. From the care and attention he and we received to the spacious, ultra modern suite with views of the water and mountains beyond, I couldn't have asked for a better way to spend the last days of his life together. The medical wings with doctor offices, oncology, labs, imaging, plus the heliport if life-saving measures beyond what's available is needed, I feel very secure that the needs of the young as well as our aging population will be met from now and into the future. When I awoke confused after surgery performed in the last year at the old Bremerton location, I looked around, tried to get dressed to leave, and was questioned by a nurse who asked me where I thought I was. I said " Mexico?", think I must have been in a different country try with crumbling medical facilities! I've since learned that you can find high class care in many parts of Mexico, but point is you'd never be confused in our beautiful new building. Is it perfect? NO! But IMO, it's a shiny gem in our community.

I checked out the website and it looked super easy. 5 stars for the operating room intake person. 4 stars for the clinic intake, i walked in and it's a little confusing where they want you to be, because they have a separate door, a card table for intake, but no one sitting there. Then they get upset (I saw this with 4 different people - who i pointed in the right direction) when you go looking for them to intake you. One star for the prep instructions, 2 days of clear liquid diet? I have never had that before, I couldn't believe it when I read it, twice!! 1 star for combative anesthesiologist who apparently doesn't like questions or believe in collaborative medicine. Plus it could because she was moonlighting here (she mentioned working at a hospital in Tacoma). During the course of the conversation she let it be known she was going to use the higher end of the dosage, which came into play later when the post op nurse lacked patience. Insisting the patient should stand up and get into the chair even though patient said they were dizzy and couldn't stand. In pre op, the dr performing the procedure was dismissive of patient concerns when they explained some difficulties previous Dr's had experienced. Dr was highly confident that their extremely skilled hands would not have similar issues. Which calls into question the reason provided for needing to come back in a year. The dr was not able to complete the procedure with a claim due to poor prep, although discharge paperwork says clean colon with pictures of a clean colon. Not sure what it all means because the dr was too busy for post op conversation with me or the patient. When the patient was released, they were very unstable. It took two of us to safely get them to the car. Based upon my first hand experience and observations, I know I will be looking for a different dr.

The staff were kind-hearted and proficient finding polyps requiring a colectomy at St Michael's thankfully 100% covered by Medicare benefits also springing for respite care on Bainbridge Island afterward where they moved me to a private room when my first roommate played the television all night long. The other day I got my follow-up colonoscopy (from the same crew of friendly physicians) that went just as smoothly as the first time if not better. The surgery at St. Michaels looked good, but I need to eat more fiber. Recently moving I started eating out while unpacking, falling in love with Indian food, so I've got a larder stocked with chicken tikka masala after the recent passing of inventor Ali Ahmed Aslam. Tonight I tried a different simmering sauce. So now I'm apparently flushing my system properly with rice and a happy camper at the moment. Since the colonoscopy prep instructions forbid brown rice, should I eat that instead of boil-in-a-bag long grained white rice for the fiber until my next colonoscopy in five years? During my month rehabilitating from surgery, I housed my cat at Alder Creek Pet Lodge for $900 after tip.

That informed my decision to use them. After the procedure I then get bills from two different entities. Phone calls to the surgery center afterwards blamed me for not understanding how the process works. I contacted two different surgery centers (located in Seattle and Bellevue) who provide similar services and they told me their offices do not do that, they bill together and give the price up front. One was very critical of the setup with the Surgery Center of Silverdale and they knew who I was talking about just based on hearing my experience. Strong recommend to find a different provider, but if you do use them, get any quotes in writing and have them confirm IN WRITING that they won't spring extra costs on you.

I said it doesn't sound like you do much for patient convenience or safety either. he said "I don't have time to argue with you and walked away. fortunately I was able to reschedule at the hospital where I was treated with respect and dignity.
