I was on my lunch break and unfortunately did not get to investigate the trail system very much. I only did about a half mile. The level one trail I did was asphalt very wide and could easily be traversed by someone with disabilities or in a wheelchair. However, it was 100% uphill lol My short little jaunt got my heart rate up pretty quickly due to the elevation change. I would definitely like to come back when I have more time and hike some of the loop trails. It's a very nice system. The sides of the trail was mostly dense underbrush, lots of cedars and other trees so I did not recognize. It is a nice little break out to nature after lunch. . I would come back.

It's a great place for a long walk with your dogs. Beware of the deer or deer dung in the grassy areas. Also, they only have porta-potties.

The main loop trail is perfect for the family hike or a chill climb with friends. They have plenty of trails that branch off and they are well marked with difficulty ratings. I appreciate that everyone I come across is friendly and simply enjoying their time with nature. This is a trail in South Texas, so I'd recommend bringing some water and sunscreen, but otherwise you really don't need much. I've never run into any animal other than maybe a bird or squirrel, but clearly there are some night creatures from the trail markings. For being inside a major city, there are surprisingly quite a few places to rest and take in the view of the hill country. Overall, a wonderful local wildnerness park!

This is the first time I've been to the park and can definitely confirm there are alot of different birds here, including ducks. There was plenty of parking thankfully and not overly crowded when we came. The path itself was very easy and you basically walk around this big lake. They also do have plenty of seating around and saw many people there fishing. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was that there was alot of trash. Some parts of the trail were decent but you could still see the place isn't really kept up with cleaning which is a shame. Even on the path I saw this random bed spring that was kinda random. Overall it wasn't a bad park but wish they kept it cleaned up would have enjoyed it more.

However, we found so much debris and smell everywhere: mounds of clothing and trash that appears to have been piling up for some time. I see that there was an upgrade done to the park in 2017. Now in 2025, this once beautiful park seems to have been neglected and allowed to be a catchment for homeless people and people not interested in cleaning up after themselves. There was an obvious drug deal happening at one point on the path as well. We saw the volunteer park stewards on their bikes but wondering what input they have to help this poor park.

There were trailhead signs on either side and both were clearly marked. We decided to start with the Savannah Loop which is approximately 2.5 miles long. There are about eight differently trails of varying levels of intensity. The trail was clearly defined and well maintained. The signs make it easy to follow the trail and find your way around. There were quite a few hikers this morning, many with pets on leashes. Everyone was pretty friendly and courteous. The trail was very peaceful and very quiet for the most part. We didn't see much wildlife, but we found some lovely views. We will definitely come back for the other trails.
