We were ripped off and deceived" Two months after having our boat delivered by trailer to Bluewater…read moreYacht Yard, we were finally able to take it home. We were told that our boat would be going in the water (splash time) at 10:30 am, only to arrive and discover that the rigging hadn't been done, the zincs hadn't been applied, and the boom hadn't been connected, (and to find out that no one actually knew how to rig a sailboat) when I specifically asked the company's receptionist, Ronda, before our boat was delivered from Lake Norman to their yard if they could rig the boat in its entirety (because we are novice sailors), and she told me, "Yes, no problem..." Then, on splash day, there was a whole other story. My husband and I are more than disappointed with the service we received. Living in a sailing community, we immediately had people tell us that our rigging wasn't in tune, our mast is leaning toward starboard. We paid $600 to have the mast stepped excluding the crane rental (another $550), and we watched as five men kicked at the mast trying to get it raised (a total of 30 minutes labor cost $600). The mast is not heavy. It's aluminum (the crane was overkill). They have a small crane onsite they could've used but since they apparently know nothing about sailboats they didn't realize this. I feel very strongly like I was bent over the bow of our boat and screwed over. I wrote to the owner Jim and to his receptionist, Ronda, but received no response. They managed to cash my check within 24 hours while it took two months for me to get my boat. Then, as it was put in the water using heavy straps, we were told to get on board right then (unsafe) as it was lowered into the water. The men pointing at us were Mexican. They didn't speak English. Just pointed that we were supposed to get on. Because we were brand new to sailing, I was very specific and clear that I needed the boat "ready to sail" before I took it to Bluewater. I had the boat delivered to them because they assured me that they could take care of us. We were taken advantage of. We paid almost as much to have the bottom of our boat painted and the sides polished as we did to purchase our 25 ft. Catalina. I told the owners, "Our time is worth money. My husband took time off from work." They didn't care. All they seem to care about are BIG Fishing boats and screwing over the little guy. I would not go there. Ever. We were stuck. I had to pay them in order to get my boat. We had no recourse, and they didn't have the decency to respond to my email.
