It was about two and a half years ago now I received the best service of my life at this 7/11, buckle up, this story is emotional. The energy was always lovely in this 7/11. It was my go to for gas, drinks, ibuprofen -- the essentials. But one day set this location and its customers and workers apart. I was having a terrible day. I ran home to quickly eat something before going back to campus for my next class when I remembered I had been driving on empty for nearly a week. The time had come, and my car started to show the early signs she was about to break down. I prayed I could make it to 7/11 before... and I got so close, but she broke down about 100 feet from the entrance of the gas station. I figured my only shot was seeing if they had a portable gas tank I could borrow or buy to fill up my car bit by bit, at least enough to get to the pump. I went in panicking to the front to ask and was quickly met with a kind and enthusiastic good samaritan working the register who, without hesitation, told me we'd get my car to the pump. He immediately recruited a customer to come help in the feat, and by the time we had walked back to my car and began to push, a third onlooker was running up to aid as well. These three strangers gave 15-20minutes of full strength to push my car all the way to the pump. We were all so proud when we did it. After the success, I told the worker I never write reviews, but I would be for this place. After putting it off for days, weeks, months, and then years I was reflecting on it today and realized how much that meant to me and how I always regretted never writing the review I had promised. So here it is. Im not sure if I caught the name of the employee, if I did it has been pruned from my mind, but both him and the environment at this 7/11 made an impact on my life, brining strangers together for no personal gains beyond helping a person in need, I hope I always remember it. I hope the individual who rallied others and executed this act of kindness, I hope you're well and I hope 7/11 treated you (is treating you) as well as it did me.

The McKenzie Apothecary is a small reconstructed building located near the Palace.) Dr. Kenneth McKenzie owned an apothecary shop in Williamsburg from 1732 until his death in 1755. He practiced at various times on Duke of Gloucester Street and at this location on Palace Green. From the CW website: "Dr. McKenzie owned what is now called the Robert Carter House property from 1747 to 1751. In 1751 McKenzie conveyed the property to Philip Grymes, Receiver General of the Colony, for use of Governor Robert Dinwiddie while the ruinous condition of the Palace was being repaired. The deed transferred all buildings, houses and outhouses on the property except one building which presumably was the Apothecary Shop which was to be removed off the premises within six months from the date of sale. Presumably Dr. McKenzie constructed the shop during his occupancy of the property, though it is possible that he conducted his practice in a structure built earlier on the site. When the colony sold the lots in 1753, the shop had not been removed. The next deed, dated in 1761, did not mention the building, so by that time it either had been relocated or was considered legally inconsequential as a result of Dr. McKenzie's death in 1755." The appearance of the original shop is unknown, though several documents exist (including Dr. McKenzie's will) which recorded the professional equipment he owned or that was given to him including drugs, medicines, mortars and all other instruments. The present building was started in April 1951 and completed in March 1952. Unlike a lot of CW reproductions it does not occupy the foundation from the original shop as the colonial brickwork was considered not substantial enough for reuse and was removed before reconstruction. The exterior design was based on a common building design from the period and the 1782 Frenchman's Map of Williamsburg which shows a small square outbuilding to the south of the Carter House with lines drawn between the buildings indicating a walkway or a pergola that connected the two buildings. Strict authenticity was not followed in designing the interior of the reconstructed McKenzie Shop. It was intended for a possible residential usage which dictated a more functional floor plan than would have existed in a normal Apothecary. In terms of today's CW the McKenzie Apothecary is used as a counter service stop which offers drinks and a small array of prepackaged snacks. It's also one of the places where you can buy & refill the annual refillable mugs. The shop is normally open seasonally from March until the end of the year then closing during CW's dormant time in January-February. Also note the location. Yelp's map marker is wrong because CW's own website has this place listed incorrectly. We went for the bottled ginger ale and root beer. They were both cool and refreshing for a hot day walking around outside. We didn't eat here, but I was glad to see a few different vegetarian options: pb&j sandwich, veggie sandwich, side salad, and a fruit and yogurt option.

It was really really dirty - plastic cups rolling under the cars, candy and spilled ice cream mounds on the cement. This is my local store and it was a shame to have that sort of treatment. People can buy a beer to drink AFTER work and either way, judging a customer is just plain wrong.
