We love grabbing a delicious salmon bagel and a drink from inside and appreciate all the local things to do info around. The sequoias make a great addition inside and a piece of our local natural offerings that everyone should see, explore and appreciate the magnificence of. The airport is small and with lots of clear signage it makes it easy to navigate. Fresno PD always makes their presence known.

The good news is that it's super quick to get through--you can usually get from the curb to your gate in record time compared to LAX or SFO. It's clean, and the "giant sequoia" forest theme in the terminal is a nice touch for visitors. However, it really needs more to do. There's a major lack of variety when it comes to shops and interactive things to keep you busy during a delay. If you've already grabbed a coffee, you're basically just sitting at the gate staring at your phone. It would be great to see more local boutiques or even some interactive exhibits about the nearby National Parks to kill time. The biggest headache, though, is the baggage claim. They really need to expand that area and add an extra belt. When two or three flights land at the same time, that small space gets incredibly cramped, and it feels like forever before the bags actually start moving.

My experience is only flying in and picking up a rental car. Airports don't get much smaller than…read morethis. They are in the early stages of building a new terminal. Currently, you exit the plane by stairs/ramp. There isn't a jet bridge, so know that you face the elements upon arrival. Exiting the airport is easy. The car rental area is a one minute walk from the gates. Outside is ride share and parking lots. The car rental parking lot is close as well.

There are only a total of 5 gates here, no air ramps so you enter the aircraft the old fashioned way. What works here? Lots of things...the rental car lot is 30 feet away, we were the only ones going through TSA, and everyone working here is on a chill time line. Also they have a "bar" that you order drinks, pay for water, chips all in one. I would give this airport 5 starts however...the hot dogs looked like they were rolling around for a while. Also where is the imitation cheese pump to throw on that err...hot dog? Also no charging stations unless I walk from gate 3 to 5, I'm tired to walk that 50 feet. :)

I'm a locally based frequent flyer and start 1/3 of my trips here & 2/3's at LAX. When the new…read moreterminal was built almost 20 years ago BFL had 25-30 flights a day & Airport Bus of Bakersfield had 6 or 8 trips to LAX. BFL has been at 8-12 flights a day since the America West-American Airlines merger. About half the flights are big jets and half smaller regional jets. Things to watch - 4 of the flights depart with 75 minutes 05:15 to 6:30 , so things bunch up. If checking bags, 75 minutes before flight time, carry on only 50 minutes. As few flights are spread out , the rest of the day it is not uncommon to find no airport personnel at the counter, and no way to summon them. When it's close to flight time, the gate agents go inside the building. The only sure way is to come to the counter 30 to 90 minutes before a flight departure. (Really BFL- use should have some type of call system so airport or airline personnel know someone needs attention. ) For drop off one gets 15 minutes free parking! Short and long term parking rates are much better than LAX . I've had good luck with car rental, as long as you reserved. Walks ins are hit or miss. Small planes get delayed more than large ones and last 2-3 years my on time experience is good. Prices to my destinations are closer to LAX than ever. Certainly markets and destinations work well, others do not. With less frequency than LAX , if there is a tight connection I will opt to book through LAX for more flexibility. Food and bev services are minimal.

We were told that the Holiday Inn was the closest place to eat, but they were closed. There were no options close enough to walk to. We inquired about a crew car. One of the linemen decided that simply telling us they didn't have a crew car wasn't informative enough, so he explained that having a crew car placed the FBO in a position of incurring liability if we had an accident. I didn't mind the lecture nearly as much as I minded the tone. Stuck with the vending machines, I asked if they could break a $20. I was told they could not, which seems shortsighted to me if you are an FBO with travelers coming through and your only food option is the vending machines. The other pilot had a few singles and deposited them into the vending machine. It registered the credit, but did not dispense any items when the button was pushed. The credit disappeared. He tried again with the same results. When he asked for a refund at the desk, he was told they couldn't give him a refund. We left hungry, but didn't miss that there were Del Taco bags of food on the linemen's desk. If these guys worked half as hard at solving problems as they did at dodging them, this review would be completely different.

The pilot instructor pulled out my power (made the airplane engine go to idle at about 3,000 feet altitude) and asked me what I would do if there was a real emergency. Looking out of the windows, I easily spotted the airport and started to trim the aircraft for unpowered flight (etc.) but was surprised just how small the runway below was, both in width and length! 50 feet wide and 2300 feet in length.
