Delicious chicken, but it's been abandoned for over a year. I wish another Harold's Chicken owner would move in!

So... this specific Pizza Hut is very hit-or-miss…read more In my experience, if you place a delivery order for one medium pizza on a Friday or Saturday evening, good luck. Most of the time, the DoorDash driver assigned to the order, since Pizza Hut uses DoorDash for delivery now, ends up sitting at the restaurant for a long time waiting. I've had drivers update me along the way saying things like, "I don't know what's taking so long, the phones keep ringing and nobody is answering them." After all that waiting, there have been multiple times where the pizza finally arrived and it was the wrong order. I've tried calling the store, but remembering what the driver said about the phones not being answered, I've had to drive over there a few times just to get the correct pizza. When I got there, I saw the same situation: delivery drivers waiting, phones ringing nonstop, and one employee in the back trying to handle everything alone while the counter and phones were mostly being ignored. One time, I stood at the counter for about 30 minutes with the wrong pizza, which was already room temperature by then, before I could even explain why I was there. When I finally told the employee what happened, she said they had accidentally switched two orders, and the other customer had already come back and picked theirs up. At that point, I just wanted the pizza I actually ordered: a medium pepperoni with extra pesto/basil sauce. It took about another 20 minutes, with the phones ringing the entire time, before I finally got my replacement. By then, it had been about an hour since I received the wrong order, which was already late in the first place. Because of experiences like that, I try not to order from this Pizza Hut unless I really have to. If Domino's had that pesto/basil sauce as a topping, I'd probably just order from there instead. But something about that sauce keeps dragging me back, so apparently I enjoy being annoyed every now and then. LOL. I'm not sure how things are Sunday through Thursday, but on Friday and Saturday evenings, I'd be prepared for long waits, unanswered phones, and possible order mix-ups. Maybe if the stores GM hired a 2nd person for the kitchen on their busy days this wouldn't be such a regular thing. (Fri/Sat/Sun)

The pork tenderloin, also known as BPT (b is for breaded) is a popular sandwich in the Upper…read moreMidwest, particularly in Iowa and Indiana. And occasionally in Illinois. It's similar to Wienerschnitzel. A pork cutlet is cut and then smashed to make it larger and thinner, dipped in breading, sometimes cornmeal, panko, crushed saltines and deep-fried. It is usually served on a hamburger bun, garnished with any or all: tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, pickles, onions. Frequently accompanied by fries as a side. There's been a friendly competition among purveyors to lay claim to the title of "the largest," and certainly in Illinois the small town of Smitty's in Leonore, takes the title. Leonore is a booming locale south of Lasalle-Peru, 100 miles West of Chicago. Population 13o. I rolled down there on a Saturday, aiming to beat the lunch "crowd" so I called in my order (still, as of this date, curbside service only). Both I and the sandwich arrived at the same time, and like those who have gone before, I agree, this baby is YUGE. And delicious. Proper amount of breading, gently seasoned, good quality pork taste and texture. Excellent pickles and fresh cut onions. There are tables outdoor for diners to enjoy their BPT's or other items until the interior opens up again. Worth a drive. Iowa has an entire "Tenderloin Trail" you can try and conquer. Go on, go for it. You know you want to!

The fish meal included a salad bar and fries. I rarely see a salad bar offered ANYWHERE anymore; it wasn't much, but it was good. The fish and fries were decent... you have the option on walleye, cod, or a mix. The initial serving is 4 pieces of fish. I opted to do the mix (2 of each). Definitely liked the walleye best. The cod was decent, but also a bit more chewy that the walleye. The fish wasn't quite as flaky as I would have liked, so not sure if it was the quality of the filets or how they were cooked. Nonetheless, the meal was good and reasonably priced for an all-you-can-eat. It was a bit out of the way for us, so not sure I would make the longer trip for the fish, but it was definitely worth the try.

Never expected to find such great BBQ in a small town. Stopped in for dinner and had a great…read moreexperience. I ordered the trio of bbq sliders, one pork, one brisket and one spicy sausage. All very good and great smoke flavor Ang quality of meat. They serve them with just dry rub but had a great selection of sauces on the tables. I added a side of chipotle Mac & cheese with ham and it too did not disappoint, very flavorful and a healthy portion. The wait staff was friendly and very quick to serve us even though there were 6 at our table. It was a nice night and we all sat out on the patio. They also had a good selection of craft beer which pairs so well with the BBQ.

Given it's double the price of a single meat platter, I expected it to comfortably feed two. On the platter were two solid ribs, a quarter dark chicken, and one hot link which were all solid sharing portions. Brisket which I understand would be one of the more expensive items - was one slice plus a sliver of a dry end attached to it. I'm not sure if that's one slice or a one slice plus what one was counting as a second slice. This was a disappointing mark - I thought about asking the server about whether we should have at least a full second slice. Pulled pork - to me is a much less expensive item compared to brisket - yet a relatively small amount. Not as egregious as the easily measured brisket. Cole slaw - even if it was made in house as opposed a commercial bulk supplier, this is a low cost item no? Small dish. Quality is very good - just a question of the quantity. Tap water here seems filtered for neutral taste. It was a nice day on a quiet Sunday afternoon so we opted to get seated outside on the patio with umbrella shade. Traffic going by was light and quiet. Two servers available during the lull while we were there and the worked as a team to check on us outside.

Welcome to brewery #278 for me. I was very pleased with the vibe at Tangled Roots. Very nice place!…read more I sat at the bar and ordered a flight. Great service although they were a little busy. Los Pollos Hermanos Mexican lager was a good Mexican lager. Very easy to drink. Kit Kupfer amber ale had a little fruity flavor I couldn't quite place but when I looked at the beer menu it described it as "hint of peach". Yeah, I think that's it. A very light amber ale. Very nice beer! SWPFTD would enjoy this one. Midnight Mirage black IPA...ok, this was interesting. And I don't mean that in a snide way at all. It's a black IPA with a whole host of fruit flavors. Grapefruit was definitely there on the back of the tongue on the finish, as well as apricot but that was more on the nose. Not a heavily bitter IPA at all. This might be my favorite so far. Decadent Orange Dobroy Nochi imperial stout had a really good orange flavor to it. I still think the back IPA is my favorite though. I wasn't really hungry but perused the menu and ordered a starter of the fresh artisanal bread with an awesome honey butter. There was another butter with it but I forgot what it was while under the thrall of the honey butter. I ate ALL of that myself. I truly enjoyed TRB. The beers were great, the bread was excellent, and the service was good as well.
