Wow, this was an experience! I've been a patron of Harold's Chicken since the late 80's. This establishment was clean, and seasonings, sauces, and shirts were available for sale. Well stocked with a delightful presentation. We purchased a red velvet cake (my wife's favorite) and peanut butter cookies. The cake was moist and full of flavor. The cookies were soft and flavorful. We purchased the same seasonings they use to cook the chicken in the store. Well priced and convenient. Side note: the owners have a link to purchase via Amazon. Show them some love. Gloria and Will were respectful and patient as I figured out what my aunt decided her order over the phone ( I hate not knowing g my order while at the register, love you, Aunty). Now, the food, I wish I had taken a picture. My wife had perch and wings; I had wings; my aunt had wings, too. Not only was the fish light and crispy, but it didn't taste like the chicken at all. You can tell they didn't take any shortcuts in using the same grease. The wings were sooooo good, fried just right. I'm a hot-and-mild person, so the proportions of both were spot on. This was by far my best experience. I've been to Harold's all over Chicago and Atlanta. Thank you to those running this place for the experience. I have tried to order from this location 4 times and have yet to get any food. First time I went in I was refused service and told that they were too busy to take any more orders at the time. The second time I went in and the same thing happened. Third time, I was actually able to place an order and pay, but after about 5 minutes of sitting there waiting for my order, I was told that they were out of chicken breasts and did I want to substitute something else like dark meat or fish. I did not and asked for a refund only to be told that nobody there had the code to do a refund and the owner would refund my order at a later time. When I commented that this was the third time I was unable to get food the lady told me that I could get food, just not the food that I wanted. So rude and unprofessional. I went in the next day to talk the owner and he showed me that the order had been refunded and offered to give me a half white the next time I came in. So today I go to the store at 5 o'clock PM and the door is locked, no sign on the door, no people in sight. I have never had to work this hard to get a restaurant to take my money. I would prefer to support a local business rather than go to a big chain restaurant. WHAT WENT WRONG?? The first time I was here the food was perfectly delicious . Today the food was awful. The fish was paper thin and overcooked. The wings were also overcooked and we didn't receive cole slaw with any of the dinners. When I called the girl said they didn't have any made. HUH?? Who's problem is that? And why not? It wasn't even noon so it sounds like the people in charge are dropping the ball. AND that's something you let the customer know before they pay for less than what they should have. This is common sense. I also asked for mixed sauce on one of the orders and I didn't get that either. At least I got some sauce, right? While I was there someone brought their food back for NO SAUCE. This use to be my go to spot location until yesterday. Everybody that I have came in contact with at this location has been nothing but friendly and professional. I placed an order online but was unable to grab it at my normal time. When I got off I called to see if it was still there and the young man who answered stated it was tossed, I'm not tripping on that because I was unable to get at that time. The problem came when the owner CHRIS decided to get on the line and I guess flex his muscles abd thought it was okay to talk to me like I was the problem when clearly I didn't even know he was nor did I ask to speak to the manager. Long story short Chris was extremely rude and very unprofessional and I am still upset at the way he talked to me. What I do know is this and I hope Chris reads this. Nobody has to come to your restaurant it's a choice and the way you treated me yesterday I will choose to NEVER eat at your restaurant Ever Again!!!!!! Now if have you been following me for a while you'd see that Harold's has problems all over the city of Chicago. Today I'm checking out the one in monee since I'm in the area. Hopefully they'll be better than the rest. Customer Service: Placed an online order they called within minutes and let me know that they didn't have any liver. We opted for double gizzards. I got there 20 minutes later and the food was ready. No hassle & the staff was friendly. 5/5 Gizzard Dinner: Appearance - To be honest they don't look appetizing. They look to be lightly fried & the breading is pale because of it. There's plenty there though so for $7.50 this could easily feed 2-3 people. Comes with bread on the bottom & a healthy amount of thick, straight cut fries. 3/5 Taste - Thank God for lemon pepper. The gizzards are a bit rubbery & tougher than normal, but the flavor definitely saves this. Maybe find some way to tenderize the gizzards better or let it fry a bit longer. I feel like I could eat these all day if they were prepared better. 3/5 Wings & Catfish Dinner: Appearance - Just like the gizzards the chicken was lightly fried leaving somewhat pale breading. The catfish was a perfect golden brown albeit fried a little too hard as the fish has been turned into a fish stick. 3/5 Taste - Great fish, superb chicken. The lemon pepper seasoning really stands out & take this over the top. You can't go wrong with anything here, but the chicken is a clear winner. 5/5 Overall this is the best Harold's I've been to. Nice spacious restaurant for sitting down in, great food & the customer service is there (something which almost every Harold's is tremendously lacking in.) Worst customer service from the old lady that works there ever you call they don't answer even when nobody is in the restaurant asked how long before I can place my order she said why and what do you want I immediately exited their establishment? Back in my home town Chi last week and was feeling like some good ole wings; not just any ole wing but Harolds Fried Chicken for dinner. I was visiting family in south suburb and was hungry until I discovered they had a Harold's Chicken location in Monee, IL nearby. Well let me tell you I was really impressed buy the service and freshness preparation of the food. I called in a pick-up order and it was very hot freshly made when I arrive. This newer location was extremely clean and well run then some others I've seen in the city. I haven't had this in few years so I had sticker shock of how much 6 wings cost in Chicago...geez the inflation $$ on chicken wing is no joke these days. I even asked why the 6-wings were so expensive...LOL. Anyway, I don't get the chance to dine on my favorite childhood fast food often since I know no longer live here so was happy to enjoy this meal. The chicken wings with mild sauce is my favorite...and let's not forget the white bread...I know it's a Chi-town thing. Also, the catfish was good and well seasoned but not salty. They opened a location in H-Town but it's having mixed reviews and I'm yet to go there but nothing is like the original back home. It's hard to duplicate the service and style how they prepare Chicago fast foods and taste profile. Anyway, if you live out near this south suburb give this local a try. This is by far the BEST Harold's Chicken I've had in a long time. As locations are typically independently owned, this speaks well to the management and how they run their business. First I had the chicken (of course) with a great clear your nostrils sauce. Normal people might ease into it with mild sauce. My only suggestion is that the fries needed a bit more crisp. Opening week of course had the counter help struggling to learn the register, of course! This second time another cashier took my order in seconds. I went for the small catfish on the recommendation of several neighbors. It did not disappoint: crispy outside with juicy insides. Coleslaw was thankfully not swimming in mayo. Fries were better this time around as well. Since everything is cooked to order, there will be a wait of about fifteen up to thirty minutes depending on how busy it is. I far prefer that as opposed to other area places that precook food and keep it in a warming tray or worse, microwaved it. WTH I could do that at home. I was so excited to see a Harolds chicken opening in Monee. My excitement was short lived when I ordered nearly 40 pieces of chicken with extra mild sauce and received NO mild sauce on the any of the chicken or french fries. The staff was courteous when I picked up the order and assured me that the chicken had EXTRA sauce. I immediately called back when I realized the horrendous mistake but no one answered the phone. In addition they forgot to include the order of fries that was supposed to accompany the 10 piece wing dinner. My dinner guests that night were die hard Harolds chicken fans from the south side of Chicago and many of them did not eat the chicken without the sauce. It just didn't taste the same and we disposed of half of the order. To further aggravate the issue the manager Chris returned my call the next day on the defensive. Not at all apologetic for the mistake and his only compromise was that I could come in for the fries that they forgot to add in the bag. He had the audacity to say that they don't put sauce on buckets of chicken despite my receipt clearly showing extra charges for "extra" sauce. How do you justify adding NO sauce when my receipt is charged extra sauce. The lack of customer service and unapologetic nature of Chris was worse than the initial offense. I suggest he undergo customer service training before managing a new business. Needless to say that I won't patronize again. Despite the close proximity of this Harolds less than 2 miles from my home , I am willing to drive further to get the chicken , sauce and customer service that I deserve. read more

Poor service again. I called today for a giblets dinner and was told it would take 15 min. Received a call ten minutes later stating they do t have livers to complete the order. This is the third time this has happened to me. Same order same result. Prices are too high and service poor at best . I canceled my order and went to a great organized Taco place ( Lucky s ) across the street. This herolds location has been a problem since it opened. This place was good. Then they got complacent. I ordered wings and was quoted a different price than what I was told when I went to pick up the food. The lady would not honor the price she told me. She said that she gave me the wrong price but I would just have to pay the new more expensive price. I asked for the chicken wings to be covered in mild sauce and specifically for the fries not to be. She repeated the order back to me over the phone. It was understood. When I left I realized the wings did not have any mild sauce on them and the fries are covered in mild sauce. When I called back I asked for a call back from Chris the owner. I never got one. They messed up the order and didn't care. I will not be back unless there can be some accountability. If I can pay for a meal they can make it correctly. I had given up on ALL Harold's chicken restaurants because ALL of them had become horrible tasting to me WITH RUDE SERVICE, DIRTY RESTAURANTS, AND NOT USING THE ORIGINAL HAROLD'S CHICKEN SEASONINGS because the owners are being cheap and don't want to purchase the seasonings from the HAROLD'S chicken facilities (when you've been eating this chicken forever WE KNOW THE CORRECT SEASONINGS!) I went to visit my daughter at college and we were on our way home and she wanted HAROLD'S. I told her I didn't want any and she proceeded to eat the chicken and I said wow that smells like the HAROLD'S I remember from back in the day and then I tasted it...OMG!!! it was just like the HAROLD'S I remember. The service is pleasant, the restaurant is clean, and most Importantly the food is ALWAYS COOKED TO ORDER FRESH, THE BACK OF THE RESTAURANT IS CLEAN, ORGANIZED, AND WELL MAINTAINED. So I wanted something to eat and notice a Harold's Chicken in Monee so I ordered online. Half dark salt & pepper mild sauce cooked regular. I live in Kankakee County passing through so I get my food started to eat as I'm driving to find my chicken thighs turned upside down with the mild sauce on the bottom of both and my fries were old no salt or pepper. Chicken also didn't seem fresh I wasn't going to turn around and go back. After I had to wait a few extra minutes which was not a problem. Stopped in on my drive from San Diego. I attempted to phone my order in 7 times but each time I was told to hold. It would have been nice to have been asked if I can please hold instead of answering the phone and then being abruptly dismissed. After being on hold for nearly four minutes, I hung up. Arrived to the restaurant and put my order in. I let the cashier know that I was going next door to the ATM to get cash. I asked for the order number & she rudely let me know that I couldn't have the number until after I paid which was greatly confusing because what would the difference had been had I called my order in. So I go get the cash & the attitude continues. There was no customer service at all with this person. She impolitely handed me the change & I just had to walk out. I was absolutely astounded at the unprofessional at this establishment. I went home and had someone else retrieve my order. I will definitely NOT patronize this business in the future. Once again I placed an order on the website and was told my order would be ready in 20 minutes after placing the order. The app took my money and 10 min later I walked to the store to pick up my $ 51.00 meal. When I arrived the store was closed. The only notification of this was a small hand made sign on the door. Why did you take an order if you where going to be closed? This has happened several times in the past. Why do the owners allow the system to complete a financial transaction when you know that your going to be closed? Why does this happen so often. Website stated that you were open. I would have never placed an order if I was informed you were closed. You really should inform your online customers via email that your going to be closed. It REALLY upsets your customers and I should note while I was their several other customers came by and where disappointed as I was. This is the last chance I'm giving this location I'm done with the poor unprofessional management and service this location has provided since it opened a couple of years ago. Extremely dissatisfied !!!! There is no excuse for having to wait for than an hour this evening. 3 simple orders of 8 wings and 1/2 dark dinner. Also there was no offer of compensating me for the inconvenience of waiting for more than an hour. The "Thank You for your patience" should have been automatically followed with a 'We added an extra few pieces of chicken" or better yet, given back some of the cost back. I would have demanded my money back but my daughters wanted some Harolds. I know I was not the only one that had to wait for more than an hour. I hope they voice their displeasure also. Went last Friday for a large catfish dinner decided to stop while I was visiting my BFF who just moved to the area. Got to her house and the fish looked delicious, however the inside was not done. The customer service was excellent but I threw the food in the garbage. Went yesterday giving them another try, I let the person answering the phone know that I was there the previous week and my catfish was not done. No apology or anything, she did say she will let "them" know to cook my fish longer *** I picked up my food and it was good I did enjoy it. On my google review, they responded from my first post advising me to call them the following day. I really didn't think about them anymore until I was headed to Monee again. I have no problem paying for anything, but couldn't or shouldn't I have been given a soda or piece of cake or a discount on my meal. SMH read more

The Harold's Chicken in Homewood, Illinois has disappointed me on my last two trips. Today (11/5/2022) tipped the scale. I ordered a large gizzard dinner and was never texted when my order was ready. Upon inquiring with the cashier after 45 minutes, she stated that it had just come out of the kitchen. Upon checking my order the food was "lukewarm" and not cooked to my specification (cooked hard). I gave her the gizzards and asked for a refund. To my dismay, I was told that she had a contact the manager and after making the call (manager not in store) I was told that I had to wait until Monday to receive the refund. Another gentleman came to the register and stated that they do not give refunds, but would prepare the order again. I was unwilling to wait another 45 minutes and was told it would take 5-10 minutes. Long story short, I believe in supporting local and, especially, my peoples' establishments but expectations are rarely met. We have to do better to compete and survive. read more

Last time I ordered from here my chicken was old and extremely greasy as if it had been re fried . To top it off it tasted like it was cooked in old grease. It was dark in color and the fries were brown. I have been a fan since they opened even marketing for them. However when you start reheating chicken and fries and it's your specialty that's a problem. Who wants to waste money? Long review.... This was my 3rd time visiting. The 1st time my order was a large catfish and a small gizzard. The LARGE catfish was actually 3 really 1/2 pieces of small catfish fillets and the gizzard was good. My 2nd time the order was gizzards and wings combo with a 6pc chicken nugget. It was good. The 3rd time gizzard and wing combo and 6pc chicken nugget. Wellll my gizzards were hard as hockey pucks, I requested salt, pepper, mild sauce and hot sauce. I received only A LITTLE MILD SAUCE and the 6pc didn't taste fresh and had sauce on 1 tender when there was suppose to be NO SAUCE. I called and spoke with Chris the manager and I was told they are new and he will talk with his employees and when "I CALL IN" I should request soft or hard gizzards. Place is clean staff are friendly but food definitely needs some quality control. My chicken taste old and possibly spoiled it smelled horrible. I only was able to eat the fries and bread. I placed an order over the phone (6:57pm) at the Harolds chicken in Monee Il. I ordered the 8 piece chicken only I was told to pick up my order in 25 minutes (due to covid orders should be ready on time). I arrived at Harolds in 30-35 minutes to pick up my order (around 7:30 pm) I noticed one other customer waiting on his order inside the restaurant .I paid for my order with a debit card and was given a beeper device and was told by the cashier "your order will be ready in a minute " I stood up by the window away from the other customer to wait on my food after waiting around 3-5 minutes the cashier says to me "you need to go outside (18 degrees) you can't wait in here for your food) I told her "I thought it was rude to have a customer wait outside for their food" the cashier appeared to be frustrated and turned to the owner (Chris H) . The owner informed me that I had to wait outside (he has every right to enforce that rule) . I politely refused to wait outside and asked the cashier for a refund she told the owner I wanted a refund the owner tells her "tell him his chicken almost up" i told her" I dont want the chicken all I want is my refund and im fine" the cashier told the owner "he dont want the chicken he want his money back" the owner says " tell him to go outside and wait until he finish making chicken then he will give me a refund" I told him "I would like my refund now so I can leave " next thing I know the owner walks into the lobby area gets directly in my face trying to intimidate me (didn't work) I politely reminded him of covid and asked him to give me 6 feet (his ego didn't allow him to back away until a cook stated "can we handle this like men " i told the cook "all I want is my refund and im gone" . The owner Chris also lied claiming i was harassing customers i didn't violate anyone's safety no threats was made at all.The owner (Chris or Christain) appeared to be very angry he told the cashier "call the police dial 911" then he told me" you better leave im dialing 911" I told him "no problem ill wait and I asked him why do you need another man to come and do your job you're the owner all I want is my refund " while waiting on the police for nearly 2 minutes the owner hands me a receit with a refund I left the restaurant. Police arrived i gave a statement the owner was belligerent (interrupting me as I give my statement) The Monee Il police department handled the incident professionally no laws was broken no arrest was made. Harolds chicken (Chris) has the right to run his business how he please but I also have the right to respectfully not follow his rule of waiting in the cold on food I paid for i also have a right to a refund before I leave. Great customer service is everything Chris no law was broken police should not have been called all you had to do was give me my receit I would have left . I will not be going be going back . I will continue to support the Homewood, Frankfort and 87th dan Ryan Harolds great customer service means a lot to me. read more
