They allowed my dog to come in a separate entrance since he has a fear of other dogs. On our first visit they wanted it to be a positive experience for my dog so they only did what he was comfortable with and had us come back another day to get blood work. They also offer the opportunity to bring your pets just to come over and say hi and get treats to help them associate the vet as a positive experience. I also have found them to be very affordable when it comes to medications and care. Typically with the vet I have always had the mindset that you should estimate a price and add more but each time I get the bill here it is less than I estimated which is such a nice surprise! Overall I recommend this vet to all of my friends and would highly recommend this to anyone else!

She graduated some PT training with them, gave me much anxiety when her legs would hurt her, and they were always the very best at sending her home with me happy and healthy. Sadly, the last time I brought her here, it was too late to save her. Nessie was a Bernese Mountain Dog and she had hemangiosarcoma which was undiagnosed. Her symptoms the morning of her passing was primarliy lethargy, not wanting food, and pale gums. Within moments of me realizing she wasn't doing well, I got her into the car and sped to the hospital. As we were driving her symptoms got worse and I called ahead to ask for immediate help. The team was out front when we arrived and we got her onto a gurnee. I wiped out one of her eye boogers and told her I'd be right there to take care of her. Nessie sadly didn't make it to surgery. Her heart gave out before we could help her. But I know she got the best way to leave this earth as she was barely in pain and she wouldn't have liked the cancer treatment we were planning for her. The team did a really good job helping me through the hardest thing I've ever been through. My one regret is I wish I had woken earlier that day and tried to get her help faster. But sometimes things don't go the way we want. I hope if you're in need of urgent care, you can get your pup here swiftly and allow the team to do their very best. It's a hard job these Vets and the team have, taking care of our sweet angels. I've put off on writing this review as even though it's been three months, still feels very fresh to not have my sweetheart by my side. Thank you team for all your help. She was the very best girl.

Based on her bloodwork, her liver enzymes were heavily elevated. We had her there for about 2 days then got her because we were waiting on lab results and we knew we wanted her at home after a few days. Although it was a pricey visit. She was well taken care of. We still don't know why she didn't want to eat or anything not by the fault of the hospital or anything. Our dog is just a mystery. We had a follow up and liver enzymes had decreased which was a good sign. Our dog is still with us but not sure for how much longer since she is a senior dog who still refuses to eat her kidney food. But we are doing what we can but we are happy with the way our dog was treated here. Everyone was very nice and attentive and answered all of our questions.

Instead, she was coldly told that the clinic would not be assisting her dog that evening because an exam would be required first and she would need to come back the next day. Not once was there a kind word. Not once was there any expression of sympathy. Not once did this employee appear to recognize that she was speaking to a grieving pet owner in one of the most difficult moments of her life. My sister is a responsible, mature woman in her late 50s. She did not make this decision lightly. In fact, she fought making it because she loved her dog so deeply. Her faithful companion had reached the point where letting go was the final act of love she could provide. The last thing she should have been forced to endure was indifference and rudeness from people in a profession that is supposed to be built on compassion. Veterinary medicine is not just about caring for animals. It is about caring for the people who love them. Anyone working in this field should understand that they will encounter grieving families every day. If they cannot show basic kindness and empathy during those moments, then they have no business being the first point of contact for people facing such devastating loss. My family has trusted Western Animal Clinic since the days of Dr. Norgren. For decades we believed in the compassion and care that his name represented. Sadly, based on this experience, that legacy appears to have been lost. I am not angry because my sister was told she needed an exam. I am angry because of how she was treated. There is never an excuse for treating a grieving pet owner with such a complete lack of humanity. Western Animal Clinic should be ashamed of the way my sister was treated during one of the worst days of her life. Her dog has joined his other four-legged freinds at Rainbow Bridge because of another, more compasionate clinic, that helped her that night. She is still grieving immensly!

I brought my nine-year-old Pomeranian to Animal Urgent Care after a seizure because his regular…read moreveterinarian had not yet opened. I approved bloodwork to look for metabolic causes of the seizure. The bloodwork was useful and ultimately showed no obvious peripheral cause. What I found frustrating was discovering that an IV catheter had also been placed at a charge of $120. I do not recall consenting to catheter placement; I recall specifically consenting to the bloodwork. No fluids or medications were administered through the catheter during his visit. The medical record states that catheter placement was approved, which does not match my recollection of the conversation. After several hours, the treatment provided consisted of examination/observation, bloodwork and placement of the unused catheter. Hospitalization for continued neurologic observation was recommended, which I declined in favor of taking him home and following up with his regular veterinarian, who knows his neurologic history and current medications. I understand why an emergency clinic might want IV access available in case another seizure occurs. My concern is not that the clinicians considered it medically reasonable; my concern is that a $120 procedure was performed that I do not believe I authorized, and I did not understand until later that the catheter had not been used to administer any treatment. In an emergency, owners are frightened and making decisions quickly. Clear communication about what is being proposed, what it costs, whether it is diagnostic, therapeutic or precautionary, and obtaining explicit consent before proceeding are extremely important. My primary concern is the IV catheter and the lack of consent. The catheter had already been placed before the veterinarian came to speak with me. I was never asked whether I authorized placement of an IV catheter, and I was never told that it would cost $120. What I was specifically asked to authorize was the emergency/triage evaluation and the bloodwork, which I approved. The medical record subsequently states "IVC placement approved." That is not an accurate account of what occurred. I did not approve catheter placement. By the time the veterinarian discussed the diagnostic plan with me, the catheter was already in my dog. It was never used to administer medication or IV fluids. When I decided to take him home, I also had to specifically request that it be removed. Ultimately, I paid $610 and left without any treatment having been administered to my Pomeranian for the seizure--no seizure medication, no fluids, and no other therapeutic intervention. I understand that examination, bloodwork and observation have value, but for our particular situation this emergency visit was not worth the cost or the additional stress to my dog and me. In the future, I will make a seizure-management plan with his regular veterinarian so I know exactly when emergency care is warranted. His regular veterinary clinic opened approximately 40 minutes after I arrived here; in retrospect, I wish I had kept him safely confined and comfortable and waited for his own veterinarian. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this clinic.
