I spent a long while in Dornie. Most of my time in the Highlands, I stayed at the Schoolhouse…read more You wouldn't believe how accommodating and pleasant everyone is here. The owner runs the tearoom and B&B and has a few helpers here and there. There are I believe, 4 room options. Two of the rooms can accommodate small families and the others are very quaint, perfect for a couple. All of the rooms have their own bathrooms, and are extremely spacious. I stayed in the room upstairs, I believe it was Room 4, and it had a queen bed and a twin bed with the best bathroom ever! What's great about this B&B, is that you can bring your own groceries in (and purchase them down the street at the local shop), and the owner provides a big kitchen all exclusively for her guests. Some people may not like this, as they expect prepared food service. But the woman who works there provides milk, cereal, bread and butter AND she has the tearoom connected to the B&B. The scones are all homemade by her, which are to die for, and has the best pastries I've ever had. They also have a barista there as well. The coffee is sublime and nothing like what people have these days. She grinds the coffee beans and has plenty of options for the perfect cuppa jo. There are also tons of options to choose from as far as tea goes as well! Once you have all of your necessities for your day, if the weather permits, you can sit out on the front of the property, and enjoy the scenic view of the loch. Along with the tearoom, joint with it is a gallery. The owner loves to showcase other artists from around Scotland and sell their work in the gallery. Please have a look at her website and see what there is to offer! She is also on facebook! The price is a smidge high for a stay, but you won't regret it and it's the best price for the area you'll be in. You are literally a 7 minute walk from Eileen Donan Castle and an even shorter walk to the Clachan (Dornie's adorable little pub). I could go on for about 5 more pages on why this is the best B&B in that area but I won't. If you're visiting the castle or just making a pit stop in Dornie, please go to the Schoolhouse Dornie!

Today I had to cancel my booking due to lost luggage and a change of plan. Kevin was absolutely fabulous and understanding. Reading the other review I really wish I could have stayed there. The water would either come out scalding hot or freezing cold -- no in-between -- and trying to adjust it could easily burn you. It took a long time to get a manager involved, and when she finally arrived, she was incredibly dismissive. Instead of helping, she blamed us for "not knowing how to use Scottish showers," which made no sense -- we had just stayed at a nearby hotel with no issues. She then proceeded to lecture us and insisted that *everyone* should be comfortable with the preset water temperature *she* had chosen for the entire motel. Totally unacceptable. Not worth the money or stress. -

In order to keep it as new, the manager welcomes you with a lot of rules. In addition to a surveillance camera that reacts with a motion detector - i.e. is always switched on - you are filmed every time you enter and exit the main door the main . The rooms are tiny and low. The two attic rooms are not recommended for people taller than 165 cm. In addition, it is extremely warm in the upper rooms, which was mentioned as a precautionary measure and is to be accepted. You are not allowed to wear shoes in the house, you cannot eat anything warm in your room, the breakfast offer is extremely limited and you are watched by the manager while you are having breakfast, which creates an extremely unpleasant atmosphere. Smoking is only allowed in the parking lot opposite. There was no hot water the first night but was then fixed. So unfortunately a disappointment.

B&B main judgement bar for me? Tea and coffee facilities. Great, with tea, coffee, hot chocolate, all clean, bathroom is lovely and modern, excellent shower, fluffy, nice smelling bath robes (great after you've been a tit and just thrown yourself in the fairy pools in the autumn rain). Big, gentlemen style, green leather sofas to cosy up on in the lounge area with a night cap, super comfy beds, all well equipped and well kept. On top of the breakfast view, the food is great. I had the Blairdhu Cairn, black pudding and poached egg balanced on top of tatty scone. Fruit, yoghurts, cake, cereals and your standard fare to help yourself to too, with nice jams and marmalades as well. There are tellies in the room and in the room for breakfast with the news on, free wifi, and ample parking. I intend to go to skye again soon, because I love it, and I want to see the dinosaur footprints they discovered, practically immediately after we got back, and I would happily stay here again when I do.

The property has 6 rooms and is situated on a large elevated spacious lot with plenty of parking and free Wi-Fi. Guests enjoy a gorgeous view from the guest lounge/breakfast room and from some guest rooms. The double room was nicely decorated, it had a large comfortable bed with reading lights on either side and a duvet with high-quality linens. Amenities included robes (aka dressing gowns), hair dryer, in-room tea and flat screen TV. The modern bathroom featured a stall shower (with plenty of hot water) fluffy towels, shampoo/bath gel and a vanity with space for your toiletries. Our room did not have a view but was quiet and private, the large window faced the side garden. The breakfast options include a full Scottish breakfast as well as many other healthy choices to suit all tastes, service was friendly and efficient. Our host Fiona was helpful and welcoming. She accepts cash or credit card (with a small additional fee of ~3%).

We arrived as early in the afternoon as possible as we had hopes it would be worth it. We wound around the drive to the 2 story house and parked our car. We wandered in as the husband of the house(it's a husband and wife that own it), was by the front door. He gave us a tour of the beautiful house, including the breakfast area and guided us to our room. Our room was called the Ben Nevis. Fitting, as it had an awesome view of, the Ben Nevis! It had a hat of clouds on but the valley below was just as great. The room was open and cozy at the same time with many accouterments. The location was great as there was a restaurant right near by that was walking distance. the next morn we had an excellent breakfast with toast, many cheeses and meats and some salmon. It was perfect for us as it was fairly quick and great to it the road. We really do hope to e back. It may be on another continent, but worth trying to make it back.

We arrived at Corran Ferry Terminal and waited for the Corran Ferry to come back and pick us up to deliver us to Corran. The lighthouse is located just beside the ferry arrival terminal and the fare is £7.90 by car. Pedestrians go free. There is a gate surrounding the premise that keeps unwelcome visitors out. Well, the occasional animals can still be seen, especially the unwelcome of all: mitchis! Argh :-) The first room we entered was the utility room, also part kitchen. This place is HUGE. There is an ante room, which can be used for kids as a play area with their own Telly; another kitchen with a table that seats 6 and a AGA Hob; adjoining are a dining room that seats 10 and a living room with ample of seating space and electronic appliances. They also have SKY TV and WIFI. There are 4 double bed rooms, but only one with sea view, 1 twin with a walk in shower, and a small children's bedroom with a cod. The bed rooms are on the first and ground floor ensuit each. The housekeeper had prepared this place with love and left us milk, butter, coffee, pretty much all the essentials. Outside is a veranda, which we used every day. One evening we had a BBQ. The grounds are extensive and well shielded from the sea by a stone wall. Its breathtaking to walk along the shore during sunset and the views towards the glens are amazing. You find a small convenience shop within a 20 min walk and the pub just around the corner. Fort William is a 30min car ride and food shopping there is recommended, otherwise there is a Coop in Glencoe. Will I go back? Definitely. And who knows you might too :-)

Reviewing our stay at a working Lighthouse in the Scottish Highlands. The best Holiday Lodge I have…read moreever visited. Located on the the Loch Linnhe and between Oban and Fort William. There are 2 ways to get here - one by road (route Ft William) or taking the Corran Ardgour Ferry. This ferry runs every 15-20 minutes. The Lighthouse is just a short walk from the ferry. Where to start. The Lodge is a big enough place for up to 10 people. Although it may sound like a lot of people, the place has 5 very roomy ensuite rooms. 2 on the ground and 3 up the stairs. The house also has a entry utility room with a massive American fridge freezer. a washing machine and plenty room for all the boots and shoes that gather there. Across from the utility room is the 1st bedroom. Further on there is the landing / children's play area, with TV and DVD, Lazy Boy beanbags and a toy chest. here is the 2nd Bedroom and the only en suite that has a bath. - The beds are big and comfortable. I slept like a log! The breakfast kitchen has got an AGA! Which is wonderful. There is a small fridge and plenty of stuff to cook and eat with. - Here we found a welcome hamper with tea, coffee, cake, a couple of bottles of wine, milk, eggs etc.. Right beside the kitchen is the dining room with a big table and 10 chairs. The annex / living has got 4 big comfortable leather sofas. Sky television and BT wireless hub. Plenty of family games and cards. The big feature here is the wood burner. This has been pre-kindled for convenience. Even though I did suggest to light it at times, as I wanted to experience it, we did not have to use it. Must go back in here in somewhat colder times to get the full experience I guess. The upstairs has got a baby nursery / changing room and 3 further bedrooms. All with showers. One of them is a walk in shower with a waterfall shower head. Bliss. One thing you may wonder; if this is a working lighthouse, will that affect the rooms facing it? No it doesn't. The light is shielded for that end. Outside Space: You can park 2 cars with ease on the gravel driveway. There is a walled off play lawn with a picnic table and nearer the lighthouse there is decking with garden furniture to accommodate all visitors. You'll also find recycling bins and access to the beach/shore. From any angle, the views are fantastic! What is close by? In walking distance there is the 'Inn at Ardgour' which is a village shop / pub and hotel & restaurant. It sits opposite the ferry crossing. The town of Glencoe is close (5 min by car) and they have a decent COOP supermarket. Fort William is a little further and for a short day trip very good to visit. In all we had a brilliant time here and big thanks to the housekeeper Cathy that made our stay as problemless and pleasant as possible. I will certainly recommend this to many people and possibly return soon!
