I can only speak for my own experiences. I run a small, lean and mean decorative concrete and custom fence business in California. I've ordered over 3000 lineal ft of garapa in 2 shipments over the past 6 months. Both arrived within a week of placing the order. Being small, I can't afford to keep a whole lot of inventory on hand and it has been really nice getting extremely fast turnaround (this is not a material I can source locally). I use the garapa mainly for open joint, horizontal cladding and other decorative screens so my tolerances for wood movement, etc are different than say an ipe deck so I can't comment on that. That said I just checked my first job and the gaps are what they were when I installed and the wood looks absolutely beautiful - the owners get daily compliments from neighbors and people passing by. Rick and I had a bit of a dispute when I first started working with them but we got on the horn, worked it out and everything's great - it actually turned out it was my miscommunication, imagine that. He has always been extremely responsive and even split the cost on some items that I mis-ordered. I can understand why some would be leery based on the other reviews but I plan to continue to order from hardwood decking supply for value and fast turnaround - thanks Rick! PS, I've brought this to their attention but, the only reason I'm giving a 4 instead of a 5 is that the freight company they were working with sucks and they need to be held accountable. read more

This place, and Rick (the owner) in particular, is as good as it gets. Their prices were significantly lower than the other places I priced. I ordered Batu (Mahogany) and it is truly beautiful wood. Upon delivery, one of the boards (out of more than 100 boards) was damaged, and they agreed to replace it. Then after a few weeks several boards cupped, I'm not sure why. When I explained my handling of the wood to Rick, he decided to send me new boards at no cost. That's incredible service! I gave 1 star because you can't give zero or less. Please, I beg you, DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH RICK CAMPBEL , owner of Hardwood Decking Supply. I have never left a review for anyplace before, but I felt so strongly about this experience I was compelled to sign up to Yelp just for this. I have worked in the construction field for 31 years, the past 19 as a General Contractor. This has been hands down the worst place to deal with. I initially placed order beginning of May and they somehow lost my order and didn't tell me until they were out of product, but Rick does not seem to understand what communication means. Easily 15+ phone messages and many emails, all with no reply. He finally calls me back in July and says they have my order ready. I give Rick CC info and he assures me they will honor my original estimate from May "to the dollar". But they dont He has Zac email me back 4 days later explaining why they now have to increase price. I refuse and explain why. Gave complete history of call log and emails. AMD the time and dates Rick promises that the order is on it's way. 5 more days go by and Rick emails me and says. "Not selling to you, Go buy somewhere else". Now I have to go back to my usual supplier and pay 30% more than what it would have cost me back in May if I never would have wasted my time with Rick. Then I read the other reviews here. Many with similar stories. Especially the poor communication. I will warn as many people as possible. If you are going to order hardwood on line go with Oversees Hardwood or Advantage Lumber. They keep their promises, unlike Rick Campbell. read more

DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY! Last November I ordered some Batu wood from Rick at Hardwood Decking Supply. I'm building a fence myself and since I have a toddler and a newborn I'm not able to continuously work on the fence. As I'm putting up the boards I notice that there are pieces of wood that are noticeably lighter looking and feeling than other pieces. I assume that since it was a large order that there are going to be some pieces of wood that aren't as good as the others. As I keep working I keep coming upon boards that aren't the same quality as I had ordered. I finally separate all the boards and notice that Hardwood Decking Supply sent me a mix of 10 foot boards and 11 foot boards. All the 10 foot boards were quality while all the 11 foot boards are of less quality. They are noticeably light in color and weight. I emailed Rick a picture and explained the situation. He responded quickly and said that he thought he knew what had happened and admitted that the issue was inexcusable. He said he would call me on Monday. No call from him on Monday. On Tuesday I called Hardwood Supply and spoke with Rick. He admitted the mistake that the boards sent me to were not of the same quality and said, "I've told the warehouse guys not to do this before". We chatted a bit and I asked if he was planning on sending me new wood. He then mumbled about this being beyond the 30 days from delivery and said he can't take $2K-$3K loss on the wood even though he never asked how many incorrect pieces of wood were shipped. I offered to help him ship it back and he said that since I couldn't package it correctly that would not work. He then said he would need a day to figure all this out and would get back to me the following day. That was the last I ever heard from him. This was two weeks ago. I called twice and emailed twice. I offered to load up my truck with all the lesser quality wood and take it anywhere he wanted in the city to have it professionally shipped back to him. I told him that just wanted to be refunded for the boards I wanted to send back to him at this point. I now have 68 boards that I paid $20/piece ($1,360) sitting in my garage that aren't the same quality. There were more lesser quality boards in the order but I ended up using them before I finally had enough and said no more. I've also included my invoice, photos of the wood showing the difference in quality and appearance and emails from Rick admitting that there was an issue with the wood he sent me. I included it so people know this is for real because In a previous review someone else wrote Rick says that he can't find an order when someone else gave him a negative review. Lastly, when I was debating where to order the wood from I asked the local lumber yard why I should pay more and order from them. He said, "because you never know the quality from these online companies". They were right and I learned my lesson. read more

We looked around a lot online and in person and they were by far the best rates. We shipped the wood to Hawaii and it turned out beautiful. The shipper damaged some pieces and Rick was responsive to get that replaced. Overall they were great products. Customer service could be a little more polished, but they were always helpful in addressing our needs. read more

I reached out to hardwood decking supply on June 1st by email with a precise list of lumber I needed. I got a response on June 2nd and confirmed I wanted to proceed with order both by email and over the phone. I send again an email on June 8th with urgency to close on this due to lack of further communication (they were suppsoed to send me paperwork to do order). Here we are June 11th and still no response. June 11rh Update: Zac contacted me and apologized for the lack of response. He promised to complete PO and ship all the wood the same day. I received it today June 15th with the IPE oil, sxrews, etc... Although this didn't start well, I am satisfied with the end resolution and the quality of the product for an excellent price. This is a review of Hardwood Decking Supply, from whom I ordered about 3,500 linear feet of ipe to rebuild a deck, fence, and walkways around my home. I got estimates from a half dozen suppliers in the tri-state area, and found HDS to be competitive in their pricing, so I asked for samples. When these arrived, they were well dried, high quality boards (1x6 and 5/4), and so my next step was to look up the company. I was chagrined to read the negative reviews here on Yelp, and so trying to get to the bottom of things, I referred HDS to these reviews and my concerns, and was told the ipe they carried was kiln dried (KD) and was a very high grade product. I took the plunge, figuring worst case I could refuse delivery. The ipe arrived two days ago, and I'm pleased to report that these are extremely nice boards, wonderful grain, and with moisture content well within acceptable margins, with the "wettest" board coming at 11.8% MC, all others coming in lower. They shipped the exact quantity / length I needed, and because I was working on a tight deadline, did their best to get the shipment to me in time. I'll be placing another order of ipe from HDS next week. Very pleased with the quality of wood and the service and information received from Rick and his crew. Another supplier I was considering had a very elaborate web site with extensive ordering options but when it came it place an order they had limited actual supply. I had ordered hardwood from a different company in the past for another project but gave hardwooddeckingsupply.com a try for my latest project because they had the best price on garapa. If you factor in everything including delivery, etc, this was clearly the best deal I could find out there. The wood is absolutely beautiful and if you compare the prices to softwood or composite decking at the local lumber store, there is no question to me what the best choice is. Rick and his crew were great getting the order filled in a timely manor. And they really helped me out getting the project finished on time when I discovered that I had messed up a couple things about the order and had to do a supplemental order. This Tigerwood company started out good. Rick and Zack are slick salesmen. All was good till the truck got to Santa Rosa and the shipping company couldn't deliver to my house,which is not that difficult. I gave up,after loosing days I didn't have,and rented out a truck from Enterprise,and driving the wood up to my house,unloading and driving the truck back. Whoever loads and straps the wood did an incompetent job so some boards were lost,I finally got all the boards,and Rick agreed to compensate me for the truck rental plus my valuable time. 2 months later,after repeated promises to credit my account and over a dozen calls,nothing,this company should not be in business. read more

Hi all, for starters I'm a contractor and I wanted the say a few things about Rick, Hardwood decking supply. I ordered 750 sq ft of decking from Hardwood Decking supply it was shipped (fast) and in good shape and on time. This job was for my own home, so I installed the decking and the wood looked amazing when I was done. A few weeks went by and an something happened to the lumber. I wont go into details about what happened. I called Rick to explain and he said send me some pictures which I did. Now heres when I became very nervous, I spent a lot of money for the lumber. Most companies would say O well your on your own. Rick looked at the photos and called me back and said " Don't worrie about it,I'm going to send you new lumber and fasteners". This is the point when you know you shopped at the right place. Rick put together the shipment and sent it to me full replacement. Now I'm not not a fan of social media because anyone can bash or flourish a statement and ruin a business or make it better so I've stayed away from it. This is only my second review ever from me. This company compelled me to right this review and for good reason. In closing, I will continue to shop with this company with confidence knowing that the level of customer service is out of this world. Purchased Ipe from Rick; he promised it was kiln dried. It shrunk over 1/2 inch after installation. He promised in writing he would split the expense of re-installing the deck. After the work was done, at an additional cost of over $8,000.00 he has decided to go back on his word. The product is 2nd rate at best; and the company is not to be trusted. RUN (don't walk) away from this company. We ordered our Ipe hardwood from Hardwood Decking Supply and the whole process was a nightmare. From top to bottom of this company, they will lie to you and give you misinformation. After we placed our order (with Rick) we waited and waited for a confirmation and shipping date. We had originally been told we would get the confirmation right away and the Ipe would ship in a matter of days. That didn't happen. When my husband called (at 5:30pm on a Friday night) to see what the hold up was, Rick yelled at him saying, "How dare you call me at this time on a Friday night when I am trying to spend time with my son!!!" Rick also misled us on delivery dates. When the order finally arrived it was at 8:30pm (ironically on a Friday night) and we had to unload it from the truck ourselves - which took hours since it was not bundled, just thrown in the back of a truck. To make matters worse, there were damaged and missing pieces. Finally, my husband contacted the owner of this company. He apologized and re-ordered the pieces we needed, but in the end he wasn't much better than Rick. Please learn from our mistake and save yourself some grief. There are plenty other lumber distributors that will follow through. Use Cudahy Lumber (if you're in OR) or Golden State Lumber (if you're in CA). Both are reputable businesses that will do what they say. read more

Shady at best. Bought Cumaru decking from them(Rick) based on his assurances on stability, quality control and product being tilted dry. None of this turned out to be true. Boards went from 5.5 inches wide to 5..25 inches in a month after installation. Now my gaps in the deck are twice the installation width. Call him many times, and he answered once, said he'd check the batch number of the delivery but never called me back and never returned any more calls. I spent many hours trying to make this product work but it was a real challenge to install. Once out of strapping on trailer it warped and moved like treated 2x4s. Very good selection of ipe dimensions. Good service. Mine was a diy project that "developed" as I went along. After an initial (very reasonable charge) delivery of the majority of the wood, I made repeated trips to the warehouse for additional wood. Any defective pieces were promptly replaced although this didn't happen often. They were very helpful - particularly Rick's son (Jake?). I'd suggest they get an answering service that could tell me where they are and when to expect a call back. Leaving a message on an iPhone is OK if there is a likelihood of an immediate return call. No so much if it is an hour or more before you hear back. This, along with slow invoicing (noted in the other review), prevents a higher rating. Dealing with Hardwood Decking Supply has been unpleasant to say the least. Fortunately they dropped the ball and my purchase was not completed, but neither is my deck. Rick was polite on the phone when I was able to get a hold of him. Once we decided on a material, quantity and price this decking was supposed to ship the next day. I couldn't get Rick on the phone for a week. Left with no materials and scratching my head I moved on, only to find this company advertising on my local craigslist. I responded to the add and reminded them of our past dealing. This is when I decided to look them up on Yelp and subsequently write a review. Rick responded to my email and totally blew off our last dealings. He then had Suzanne send me a new quote for TWICE the amount of the original quote a month earlier. Although he doesn't "up charge for length" and states, "no hidden or additional fees" his carrier charges for length over 14' and again for over 16'. Initially I chalked my experience up to miscommunication and bad luck. After the second encounter and other Yelp reviews, I believe that this is just poor management. Good luck read more
