As a kid I used to eat at this chain a lot with my grandparents. Then they moved out of my region and I couldn't eat there anymore. So when I was on the road to Washington D.C. and got hungry and saw this on the next exit sign I had to stop. Now it's been 25 years since I had been coming here so would it be as good as I remembered as a kid? Now I know I probably had ridiculously high expectations because of my sentiment but I found myself let down. The menu was pretty big in par with Arby's and Jack In The Box. The order taker was kind of short and gruff with us which I never find acceptable. The store wasn't what I'd call filthy but definitely wasn't squeaky clean either. With all of that out of the way let's take a look at the food... Frisco Thickburger Onion Rings What Is It: It's a burger on toasted sourdough bread with bacon, swiss, and onion flavoured mayo. It also comes with a tomato which I left off. Onion rings came with well onion rings (no dipping sauce). Presentation: The packaging really looks cool here with the cool cups and the "Eat It Like You Mean It" catchphrase. The sandwich looked really good and the onion rings were nice and golden. Pretty good here. 7 out of 10 Taste/Final Analysis: The burger was cooked properly although not really seasoned. That wouldn't be a big deal but they put barely any sauce on my burger at all. If you're not going to season your meat than you better have a great sauce or toppings on it. The sauce which was said to be an onion flavoured mayo was probably great but it had barely a dab on it. That's very disappointing. The bread was buttered and toasted to perfection and the swiss cheese was fine but without the sauce it didn't have much to offer. The onion rings were pretty decent although a dipping sauce would have been nice. I think Hardee's still has some good stuff to offer but they don't go that extra mile to make it great or give the customer a satisfying experience. 4 out of 10

Walked in on a Sunday evening around 6:00. Lo and behold,...I walked right up to the counter. Not a soul in front of me. After a little delay,...because they were filling other drive-thru orders,...I ordered the double cheeseburger special - double cheeseburger, small fries, and a drink. Total cost = $5.59. Comparable price to other fast food places,...of course, if this WERE fast food. The cashier gave me a number; she said she would bring my order to my table. After sauntering off to my table, which was very clean by the way, I waited. And waited. And waited. About 23 minutes later (yes,...over 20 minutes for a fast food burger and fries since I got my own drink), I received my order. The first problem I have is their delivery system. When the cashier brought me my order, she first delivered a family of four their order, then two other single separate guys their orders, then mine. That's right,...I was ahead of three other orders, but mine was delivered last. And what does this tell you? My order sat in the window while the other three orders were prepared. And this was reflected in the quality of the food. My burger was lukewarm at best. Worse, the lettuce that they put under the burger wilted and turned to mush (see photo). The cheese also wasn't melted; it seemed to be placed there as if it was an afterthought. The fries were also lukewarm. I don't necessarily blame the staff; I blame ownership. There were 3 people working - the cashier, a manager, and a cook. (I guess that's why there were "Now Hiring" signs up.) I heard the manager say "It's like this all the time." This, coupled with an annoying customer asking for his freakin' chicken tenders to be cooked a certain way and checking on his order every two minutes, made this experience even less pleasing. Would I go back? Probably not. If you do decide to go, I'd recommend you go through the drive-thru. Those customers seem to get priority.

But banged up but still good

It was a thick beef patty topped with cheese, bacon, and a fried egg. The burger was astoundingly juicy and seasoned heavily. Fries were pretty standard but they complemented the burger nicely. Highly recommended, though I'm sure you can't go wrong with any of their burgers. The atmosphere is so rugged, it is actually almost charming. The lighting is dark and there is a bit of a smoky smell to the air, though no smoking is allowed at the bar where we sat. There are also a few gambling machines in the back that appeared to be the most high tech thing in the whole place. The atmosphere was really quite retro, though perhaps not by design. The server (can't remember her name) was attentive and friendly. She chatted with my coworker and I while she prepared our burger on the griddle right in front of us. If you are looking for an authentic West Virginia type of experience, this is a great place to try. Just don't bring your kids, because they will not be allowed in!

I soooo wanted to give a better rating to a smaller, locally owned business, but my conscience will not allow it. My husband and I came in this past Friday for lunch, and the beginning of our visit was pleasant- we ordered 10 wings, and the waitress offered to let us get 5 of one flavor and 5 of another. We ordered them extra crispy, and got half Sweet Thai Chili, half Spicy Ranch dry rub- both excellent! Perfect crunch and flavor on the wings- would definitely order again. Then we ordered a couple of other items to share, and neither were anything to write home about, unfortunately- the nachos I would absolutely skip next time. They came with the cheap round tortilla chips and goopy, thick cheese sauce you get when you order nachos at the movie theater. You could tell they were trying to be creative with the toppings, which I appreciate, but there wasn't much flavor at all. The other item we ordered was the Billion Dollar Burger. I will say again that I definitely appreciate the thought that went into creating this menu- you could tell the owners are trying to be inventive and bring new flavors to a town in which those might not normally be available. However, the execution was lacking....the mushroom sauce did not have a lot of flavor, and instead of "microgreens" like the menu stated, the burger came with salad greens on top (nothing wrong with that; it was just unexpected). I am sure if we ordered another burger we would have liked it better, because the waitress assured us the beef is never frozen, and the patties looked to be a good size and have a nice crust to them. In terms of ambiance, it is more of a hole-in-the-wall find. There was only one other table with people when we arrived, and the two employees were chatting in the kitchen, which you could hear clearly because it is a smaller space. Despite it not being visibly busy, the other tables seemed still to have crumbs on them, and my husband and I had to wipe off our own table before sitting down. Again, I hope this does not come off as being rude or prissy- I wanted to like this place so badly and would be open to trying it again in the future. I love a good dive spot for burgers! However, in JAG's case, I think a little more seasoning in the food and running a tighter ship in terms of cleanliness and service could go a long way.

While there is signage--very drab signage--for the ax throwing business, trying to find signage for the bar, whose name differs from the ax place, is nearly impossible. I wouldn't have found the bar at all if Siri hadn't directed me to the ax place. There sure isn't anything on the outside that would draw in new customers to the bar-- had I not been determined, I never would've noticed it. Inside is okay. Nothing particularly outstanding to make the place pop, but okay. There's a medium sized bar, a long counter with chairs lined up, and a couple tables. I would call that long counter counter-productive (sorry, I couldn't resist!). It faces the outside wall, so one would have to swivel around to watch any of the tvs, and it's sure not conducive to conversation. I sat at the bar. The one stellar part of my visit was the bartender, I'm sorry I didn't get her name, who was very welcoming, friendly and competent. Somewhat oddly, I felt, is that their taps have no popular domestic beers like Bud, Miller, etc. Those domestic beers are relegated to cans or bottles. On the taps were maybe six mostly flavored beers. I'm a Miller Light kinda girl, but I asked to try a couple of those on tap, and the bartender was very gracious in allowing me to sample 2 of the on-taps. I ended up ordering the shandy, which wasn't bad. Once. I didn't order a second one. From the menu... I was pleased to see breaded, fried cauliflower, a favorite of mine, with a double smash cheeseburger. The cauliflower was the highlight of my food, tasty, perfectly fried, beautifully crispy. The smash burger was a real disappointment. Okay, let me hear from everyone now, why do we love smash burgers?? That's right, those wonderful crispy edges! Sadly, no crispy edges on this one. The 2 patties were also, somehow, cooked unevenly. One was well-done, the other medium. The flavor would have been good on a regular cheeseburger, but man, without those crispy edges, it really fell flat. My 3 star rating was due to the friendly bartender and the cauliflower. Otherwise, not so much even 3 stars. So...I tried, really, but nothing there will really bring me running back.
