After working for this business for 3 days I can't say I'm upset that I was "let go". This is probably the most unprofessional business I have ever worked for. I'm not writing this review as a disgruntled former employee, I'm writing it as a concerned consumer. I noticed a lot of negative things in this restaurant. For example, the manager whom was training me to prepare food items such as brisket, ham, and beef; handled the food without gloves whilst having poor personal hygiene (terrible body odor, makeup stains on their clothing, didn't wash their hands). The restaurant promotes "fresh baked buns". This is slightly false advertisement. The buns are baked early in the morning and left sitting exposed in the air until around 9 or 10 at night when the late shift prep person finally gets around to cutting them and storing them in a clear plastic bag that is kept in a container inside of a sink that they use to clean out tea urns in. The sink in the back of the store doesn't turn off. So it is constantly running water. Employees do not use the 3 parts of the sink (one section designed for washing, one for rinsing, one for sanitizing). Often the dishes are put in dirty pseudo soapy water, pulled out of said water and half-sprayed with luke warm water until aesthetically pleasing. Employees on the back line us the same gloves to handle beef and chicken. Chicken is left in an open container with "cold" water under it to "keep it cool". I once saw an employee prepare ice cream sandwhiches with their bare hands.
On top of the unsanitary eating conditions the management in the store is completely unprofessional. I applied on a monday. Was told to come in on the following monday to begin working by one manager. I come in on that monday and the manager didn't remember hiring me. The then called that meeting an "interview". They then offered me the job and didn't start me working until the next monday. On the first day the manager told me that I had to learn the entire menu (by the way this location is 2 resteraunts. It's a Hardees and a Red Burrito, I was tasked at learning the menu for both restaurants) in under a week or I would be terminated. On my second day, store manager told me if I didn't work faster (at a task I had just vaguely learned how to perform 3 minutes prior to this conversation) that I would be fired. On the third day I was removed from my position I had been training for the previous 2 nights to learn another position just to fill in on another employees absence. I was again just learning a new task and just had started this task less than 10 minutes in; again the manager told me if I didn't work faster I would be terminated. That night, the manager with the poor hygiene told me that the manager in charge of weekly scheduling whom I've never met; had forgotten to include me on the schedule and informed me to "just come in at 5 pm, if we don't need you we will call you and inform you that you have the day off". At 12 noon, I was called and told that due to over scheduling I wouldn't be needed. At 2:15 pm I was called by the store manager and told "I don't think you want to work here or you would fit in, so I'm dismissing you from your employement here. You may turn in your uniform and collect a check in 2 weeks".
Again, I cannot stress how I am NOT an disgruntled former employee. I am simply a concerned citizen of Shelbyville KY who doesn't want anyone to be hurt by the unsanitary practices by this store.
On top of the lack of safe food practices and the lack of professionalism in the management. I will say that the person's involved in training me whom were non salaried management were really nice people whom did everything they could to make me feel comfortable and obtain the menu knowledge. They were friendly to me. However, I did not like how when the lobby was empty and customers where in the drive thru, the crew in the rest of the resteraunt would listen in on customers ordering and call them names like "fat ass" when their order was "too big" or "retard" when they displayed any sort of developmental handicap or speech impediment.
I do not recommend eating at this location due to sanitary issues. There is a Zaxbys across the street. If you are on this stretch of town, eat at Zaxbys and pass up Hardees/Red Burrito. read more
