Decided to make the drive from Hampton, N.H to check it out. $6 day pass is unheard of and I say that as a Fitness Professional for the past 5 hears (usually $20+ elsewhere) If you're familiar with training, you can easily utilize this spot as a daily training location. If you are new to Fitness and need further guidance, ID shop around at a more commercial gym ( not Planet Fitness) I used to be a Personal Trainer at Choice Fitness Haverhill and they can better help the "unfamiliar" gym goers. As far as demographics go, there were woman and young men in there as well as professional bodybuilders so don't feel Intimidated to come by, the staff member I met today (leni) was a pretty solid dude and made sure I was taken care of. While the space is limited, they have all the equipment you need for resistance training; the community is tight-knit and supportive, and if you buy the annual membership; the cost of joining is $17.00/month. I know what you're thinking.. "look at this fat guy, he doesn't go to the gym!" Well I do (or did) and since I moved away from the Amesbury area I haven't been able to find a gym that suits me because I've been spoiled by this place. The cut and dry is this, Hard Nock's is a no frills no BS gym. It's a small hallway of a gym with lots of free-weights and weight machines and a handful of cardio machines. If you want to sit in a sauna, swim in a pool, play squash, or hang out at the juice bar, don't go here. The way pricing works is you can go for a day, week, or month at a time. There's no joining fees and no cancellation fees, you just pay up at the beginning of the day/week/month (cash only) and sign in and out as you go. If you don't want to go anymore, don't show up and don't pay, simple as that. Nobody is going to hunt you down for some outrageous 200 dollar fee because you cancelled too early. If you're lucky enough to be given a key you can go to this gym 24 hours. I can't tell you the exact hours but I've shown up at 4am and 11pm and there's always people here. Peak hours are between 4-6pm so avoid that if you can. While this place can be intimidating, everyone there is friendly. If you just ask people will give you advice on workouts and exercises. If you are doing something wrong someone will let you know. Plenty of women and younger kids also lift here (people seem to think its a men-only place). Dave, the owner, is frequently there and offers personal training sessions. He will also give you advice if you just ask. One time a friend and I told him we were looking for workouts for rugby, the next day we show up and there's a big binder sitting next to the sign-in sheet that says RUGBY with a ton of exercises in it. Show me another gym owner that would do that without charging for it and I might consider going there. Great pricing structure, great gym with no BS and offers everything up front. (I once called another local gym and they told me to come in and talk to an agent just to find out how much it costs monthly to go there.. no thanks!) Hard Nock's gets 5 stars from this 35 year member and for good reason -- 24 hour access 7 days a week 365 days per year. Show me another gym that hands you a key at signup and sends you on your way to go about your business with nothing but an honor system to hold you personally accountable for on-time dues, cleanliness, responsible lifting, respect for other members, etc. If you're looking for swimsuit models in spandex you might as well keep on keeping on because that is not what Hard Nock's is all about -- not that there aren't beautiful women here, but even they are about bare necessity in that the women who train here are no-nonsense, kick ass ladies who are there to get in and get out without the frills and garb of bigger franchises and the yackity-yack of social club gyms many are accustomed to hanging out at while doing little to no work. We are about intensive labor and results - no fuss, no muss, no frills and no coddling. This is a hard core gym, but with a friendly atmosphere from its members. We'll treat ALL comers with utmost respect IF they abide by the rules and treat others, as well as the gym and its equipment, with the same respect. F*ck with us and we f*ck back, bet. Dave, Jane and Eric are NOT to be trifled with - not with 200+ bad ass members as backup. Respect here, my friends, is earned, not given. For me personally there simply is no alternative to Hard Nock's - no "Judgement-free" Zone, Gold's, World's, Latitude's. etc. Hard Nock's is end of the road for this manimal. At $26 per month, $65 for 3 months and $130 for 6 months the price is more than reasonable considering 24/7/365 access. Now, git'r done dammit! read more

God I love this place! Dave, Eric! Jane and all the rest will help motivate you to meet any goals you can make. As noted by others leave the bs at the door, the rules are pretty simple don't hog weights don't be a moron and flush when done. Dave inspired me to go from a rolley Polly round man to ripped to a degree that I didn't think could be done. kinda fell apart after being hurt but remembered the lessons Dave gave me and moving back in the right direction.
