Well since I was in the 40 yr old range, and like a typical guy, I didnt have a general doctor, I…read morejust picked this place out of thin air. That and it was on my insurance form. So far its pretty ok. I got in twice a year, get checked out, lightly, get a refill on my crazy pills and on my way out the door. They are pretty good with keeping within 15 minutes of the scheduled appointment time. I see alot of elderly here in the waiting room, so far I have been the youngest person in there. Maybe thats a good thing? I dunno. Parking is easy here too. Park in the free covered garage at West Jeff hospital on the second level, take the stairs down one floor and walk into the lobby, hang a left and take the elevator to the 8th floor. Parking is easy, the spots are plentiful as are the bathrooms.

I was a patient with Dr. Acosta some time back. He was an excellent doctor. Unfortunately his front…read moreoffice staff sucked. I'd run out of prescription sleeping medicine and called them for a refill. 24 hours later, the refill still had not been called in to the pharmacy. When I called them to inquire as to why, I was told they have 72 hours to respond to a request for a refill. To facilitate my being able to pick up the refill without having to cross the river, I told the woman to whom I was speaking I wanted to change the pharmacy to, one nearer to me. At which point she snapped at me for wanting to make the change. She asked me for the pharmacy's number. Well... somewhere between all the frustration of trying to get my medication, the stupor of a full night without sleep, this person's nasty attitude, and my trying to figure out how to find a phone number on my new phone without disconnecting the call, I must've uttered some expletive - just out of sheer EXASPERATION. Upon finding the pharmacy's number I gave it to her. But again, the prescription wasn't called in. Much later and still without having slept I called to inquire why, and was now told I'd have to see the doctor before they'd renew the prescription. So I got in my car and drove the ten miles to their office to see him. They refused to let me see him, saying I needed an appointment. Then they accused me of having cursed the woman to whom I was speaking the day before. Well, I'd cursed, but not her. Otherwise I'd have probably used a more appropriate word. Needless to say, I never went back.

This facility sees a lot of patients. I think partly due to the fact that it is one of the few…read moreVietnamese speaking doctor offices around here. The front office staff can be a hit or a miss. Today was a miss for me. You literally just stand there while waiting for someone to stop ignoring you even though they are looking right at you. *shrugs* Just watch out for the girl that throws the clipboard, you might catch her in a super bad mood one day and get the wrong end of the clipboard. If the front office doesn't scare you away, come to see Dr. Vu. He is a really nice guy and has a nice bedside manner. So no be afraid of asking him questions. Most of the people in the back are really helpful. :)

They hardly ever greet you when you go to the window and half the time you have to stand there for a while before someone even acknowledges you. Recently I've had a couple experiences with talking to them on the phone also and they were just as rude. However, Dr. Mai is great! I can say he's one of the best doctors I've had. He is very sweet and tries his best to accommodate your needs. He answers all of my questions and doesn't ever seem to get agitated with me. He is the reason why I still come here.

LOCATION NOTE: Dr. Bowers is now part of the Family Doctors practice, located at West Jefferson…read moreMedical Center in Marrero; he no longer practices at this location in New Orleans East. I've never really enjoyed going to doctors offices. You have to make the appt waaaaaay in advance, fill out a ton of paperwork, and then seemingly wait forever while the doctor meets with you for all of 90 seconds. When I moved back to NOLA, I decided to try and find a doctor which bucked that trend. I did my research online and found this guy through the GLMA website. I called and made an appointment for a new patient. It was a 1.5 month wait which was actually better than I expected based on my experience with doctors in the DC area/Montgomery County. Anyways, Dr. Bowers and his staff were patient, compassionate, and listened to my questions and concerns. I really liked how nothing felt rushed and I was able to get all the information I needed. His nurse was really nice and helpful as well, advising me on the best way to book appointments in the future when I needed them (I'm sooooo bad with names, otherwise I'd mention it). I also like how, like many other practices, they send prescriptions electronically, so there is one less piece of paper to lose. I'm really happy to have finally found a PCP that I'm comfortable with and isn't a total PITA to access, even when you take into account the drive over the CCC (ugh).

Many people entrust their care with Dr. Lee. I had an amicable doctor/patient with her. Then , one…read moreday, I confided in her that I was under the care of a psychiatrist. Oh, my goodness! One would believe that I had told her the world was spinning in the opposite direction. After that episode, Dr. Lee rarely saw me. On October 6th, I was supposed to see the LPC in the office. When I was sitting quietly in the waiting room, Dr. Lee asked me to come to the back. I knew what was coming and I pleaded to her to just let me leave, but she insisted on me coming to the back office. I really wanted to leave because suffering with a severe episode of Major Depressive Disorder, I knew that I would feel as though I was alone in the world. Well, my fear came true. She told me that I was a misfit and that she was no longer going to see me. I hit rock bottom and I had told her that my death was going to be on her hands. Did she care that I became suicidal? NO. When I left, she issued a PEC on me. It wasn't because she cared about me, she felt guilty!!!!! She wanted to see me one more time after I was released from the hospital. A friend came with me and even though I wanted to turn around, she told me to go. After the MA, did all of my vitals, she discovered that my blood pressure was over 180/?. Dr. Lee was talking to me and I couldn't even look at her. Then she mentioned how dangerously high my BP was and I replied to her,"Well aren't you lucky. Maybe I will have a stroke or heart attack and die!" I left her office while my friend stayed to talk with her. They came out to the Community Room and I stayed in the waiting room. After several minutes, Dr. Lee came out to take my BP. I still couldn't look at her and I told my friend that I was leaving. When I left, I couldn't lift my head and I walked out saying,"Why? You do not give a damn." She asked me to come back so she could take my BP and I replied, " You don't give a damn and I will never forget how much you have hurt me nor will you ever see me again." I have never hurt anyone either physically or emotionally. She assumed that just because I had a mental condition that I was dangerous. I advise anyone with a mental or an emotional problem to STAY AWAY FROM DR. CHRISTINE E. LEE. She will throw you away like trash.
