Then I started to get estimates for local and whole roof repair. I got 3 quotes from bigger, more established companies. Their quotes were all pretty close, high 20's-low 30's. As luck would have it, Angel Carrillo just knocked on my door. He saw the tarp on the roof and offered to give us a quote. And boy, am I glad he did. Angel showed me how they use a self-adhesive layment that is more expensive but much stronger and longer-lasting than what other companies go with. I checked them out online. I spoke with Anthony, the young owner and Angel's older brother. His dad taught him the business. Well, after Anthony described the whole process and timelines, etc., I went with them, not only because they were extremely price competitive but because I felt very comfortable that they would do what they said they would do...and they really did. Small family run business that out bid 4 other companies in the Santa Barbara and surrounding areas which included Santa Maria. I suspected that my best price would be outside of Santa Barbara, and these guys had THE BEST PRICE! They are from Oxnard, and perhaps because they are in house, their pricing was way better??? I don't know. But I took a chance on them and they not only delivered the best price, they delivered great work! Ours was a tricky project: an old Victorian in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara, designated as an historic, "of merit home"... whoever bid on this project would have more hoops to go through before they could begin the work. Jose patiently took care of the permitting process, (I did have to get involved a couple of times as the city planning department is difficult to work with), but once we got the permit, Avila roofing got down to business like the pros they are! We had 6 layers of roofing material, yes, 6! I don't think they'd ever seen so many layers. The demo process was a lot more arduous and time consuming than they had initially anticipated. No matter, they did not complain. They took on the job and they were going to deliver. It took them a good week to demo, and then the repairs started: replacing old and rotten wood with new ones, installing insulation where needed, and when problems arose, (like when they found a bee hive with over 30,000 bees, they waited for us to clear the problem) before they progressed. No complaints. I'm under construction at the house, so there were a bunch of other debris... they worked around the mess, and at the end of each day, they cleaned up before they left. Huge thank you for that! Try them out, I've been in the construction business for a long time. I don't mess around with fancy names and marketing. These guys do the work themselves and are hungry to grow their business the right way. Good, honest hard work, done with integrity. Before and after pics attached

Based on consistent good reviews, I contacted Shelter in August of 2025…read more We had experienced numerous electrical power outages for several years, so I began to investigate possible solutions. What I wanted ideally was a system that would automatically power our home in the event of a power failure. I initially looked at generator systems, but discovered several downsides to that technology. Generators need fuel, which could be be gasoline, diesel, or natural gas. Of these, natural gas was the most attractive, but that would require significant trenching for a new line around the house. In addition, placement of a generator was a problem, due to zoning requirements. Also, gasoline/diesel/natural gas generators have an internal combustion engine, which needs maintenance, like oil changes. The best solution for me was to have a battery backup system installed. This type of system is also known as a "power wall." Shelter recommended a 2-battery system made by FranklinWH (WH stands for Whole House). The batteries are 15 KWH each, for a total of 30 KWH. In our case, this is sufficient to power our home for 24 hours, even during the summer when we are using the central A/C. Other times of the year, 30 KWH would power everything for 48 hours or more. Since installation we have had several power failures, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. In all cases, the backup system kicked in so quickly that didn't even notice. We didn't even have to reset any clocks. When then grid power comes back online, the batteries recharge automatically. Shelter did a great job of understanding what we wanted, and provided an excellent solution. We had a very minor issue that we noticed several months later, and Shelter responded immediately to remedy the issue. I recommend Shelter Roofing and Solar without hesitation.

Although my husband and I are still trying to decide which company to go with, I want to say how incredibly impressed I am with Ryan at Conejo Services/Local Roofs. First, he arrived within the promised two-hour window. Additionally, he called me, and I received a text message with his approximate arrival time. Then, he explained the services they provide, the warranty, any additional services we requested be completed, and more. When I asked him questions about the process, he didn't make me feel dumb; he explained it in a very easy-to-understand way and definitely helped me understand the roofing process a lot better. After about 20 minutes of measurements and calculations, Ryan was able to email me a quote before he left our property! Unfortunately, this company had one of the highest quotes among the other roofing companies we met with, but I can't emphasize enough how professional and knowledgeable Ryan was. If only their pricing were lower, we'd love to consider working with them.

Neri went above and beyond by sending detailed videos from atop the roof (no way was I climbing up there myself!). He clearly explained all the problem areas and exactly what needed to be done. He provided a fast, transparent quote and was able to order materials and start the job within just two weeks. Throughout the entire process, Neri's communication was outstanding--he kept me fully informed every step of the way, including when unexpected issues arose. The damage turned out to be worse than initially thought, requiring replacement of significantly more rotten plywood and fascia boards. Once again, he sent videos detailing the problems and the additional costs involved, so there were no surprises. I especially appreciated that Neri was right up there on the roof working alongside his crew. They put in long, hard days and got the job done efficiently and with great care. One fantastic suggestion from Neri was to replace my ancient, unsightly turbine vents with modern O'Hagin low-profile, ember-resistant vents. Living in a fire-prone area, this upgrade adds real peace of mind and protection--plus, they look sleek and modern. The finished roof exceeded my expectations in every way. I've already received so many compliments from neighbors! Thank you, Neri, for your expertise, honesty, and hard work! Signed, a very happy and satisfied customer.

I called for an estimate which cost $200. That initially threw me but it's absolutely worth it as he does a thorough inspection and I would rather pay to know that it's done right! He was at my home within a couple of hours and what he told me was exactly in line with what the home inspection guy told me when I bought my home down to the last detail. No BS whatsoever and his quote was very competitive. I immediately felt comfortable with everything. Of course he credited the $200 to the cost of the job and we scheduled him to start about 10 days later. Then, about 2 days later a big rainstorm was scheduled to hit Ventura and dump a couple of inches of rain. I called Neri that morning and before I could even speak he said he was just about to call me and that he was heading over with some material to patch the exposed cracks and loose vents on my dilapidated roof to make SURE I would get through the storm without any leaks. He showed up in an hour and took care of it. AMAZING. My roof is about 1500 square feet and they had to remove 2 previous layers of shingles and replace everything. I wasn't stalking them but I happened to be home and working on my house as well and I spent a good amount of time watching them work. They pulled every single old nail and replaced every single flashing, valley, and vent, and placed every shingle PERFECTLY using quality materials. Very efficient and very professional. They showed up on time, worked hard (in a 100 degree heat wave), and had it done in 2 days as promised. It should be mentioned also that Neri is really just a very nice, decent guy and that his crew was really good-natured and respectful, and they worked with a smile the whole time. They were meticulous with cleaning up every last scrap of fallen material, cleaning gutters. and leaving my home and roof looking sparkling new. The quality of work is impeccable. Love these guys!
