HPVR did send a technician out the next morning when the A/C wasn't working, but the system was not fixed during our rental period, so we remained uncomfortable the entire week. I would not have added this additional review, and gave it a day before posting anything - but management's unfortunate year-later response demanded it. I have no idea why my initial review didn't post for almost a year - maybe Yelp can answer that. My original review was entered into the app the day after our return home in 2023. All I can say at this point is caveat emptor.

Chandelier lighting and a huge mirror with stairs for the bride to be to get ready and make sure she looks her best. It was perfect for getting ready and extremely spacious. My husband and I stayed in the railroad 1 cottage and it was very quaint and beautifully decorated. Stocked with drinks, snacks, and coffee our cottage was very welcoming and a perfect stay for the wedding weekend. The owners, Jose and Marissa were so kind upon check-in and gave us some history of the property. Both of them actually worked the bar for the wedding and were so great. It was a truly beautiful wedding at a perfect venue.

March 2015, I stayed at a property called Turpentine on the plantation side, gated community at one end of the island. They have lots of trails for walking and biking. You can also take a short walk to the beach. The community has a gym and a pool. Everyone is super friendly and it was the most relaxing and beautiful vacation I've had in a long time. They have a few shops in the center of the island near the lighthouse. Some food stores a bit pricey but you can go off the island to the town of Apalachicola where they have Piggly Wiggly and Gulfside IGA store. Make sure you visit Apalachicola while you are staying, they have lots of shops in the center of town. Gibson Inn has the freshest oysters and nice cozy atmosphere. I've been to this area twice and enjoy something new every time. The view of the stars at night on the island is amazing, especially on dark streets away from street lights....I can still see them in my head....breathtaking.

I called and spoke with two different people and begged for them to understand and even appeal to the homeowner to move the rental week. They refused to do anything and certainly not petition the homeowner on my behalf. They were cold, heartless, and stoic. It was rather quiet in January, but we could hear trucks passing by on hwy 98 and were awakened early, 5 am, by a hunting dog howling several times (duck hunting season). The breakfast was complete and unexpectedly good. The breakfast is served in another building near the bridge, so it's a short walk. The bed seemed very firm (hard) and the pillows were slabs of hard foam. Bring your own pillow, if you're not used to trailing camping. This should be a three-star review, but the condition of the room, the view off the balcony, the breakfast, the price, the staff, and convenience are worth at least a star bump, maybe more. If we return, we will probably stay again.
