Brought my ferret in to get her nails trimmed as included in our membership and had probably one of the worst experiences a pet owner can have. Not only was everyone rude upon entry, but instead of taking the ferret back like they did last time they asked my wife to handle her the entire time, and the rude pile of garbage spent the entire time scolding and scaring the ferret while missing about half of her nails on her back feet and trimming the ones she did get too short to the point of hurting her. I've walked by this place so many times not realizing they sell pets inside. My son loves looking at the puppies, reptiles, bunnies, and other critters. It's much bigger inside than it looks on the outside. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. They know their puppies really well. they state their puppies aren't from puppy mills, so i went in for an interview. long story short, within 15 mins of being in the back there was a 8wk old puppy in the back with food aggression and human aggression/fear. it only takes a LITTLE bit of knowledge to understand the ONLY ANSWER FOR THAT IS BAD GENETICS and BAD BREEDING. also, they were still selling the puppy. it just got fed separately. they did nothing to train/ help the dog other than terrify the already terrified dog in the back. hope this helps ! The staff there are so nice, my friend got a dog and I got a bunny, they were so much help with everything! I needed help with finding stuff for my bunny because it's my first time, they showed me where everything was and showed me everything I needed! The puppy's were so happy and playing with each other. horrible place. i'm not usually one to complain, me and my boyfriend had our friends meet us there so we could show them the place because we typically go every weekend to see if we can find the one for us. me and my boyfriend rode together and our friends rode separately. we tried getting dogs out and they would only let us get one out because we were in a "group" supposedly because we came in together. we had planned on doing everything in pairs of course. a few of the dogs peed and they used one paper towel and the floor was still soaked with dog pee. we asked to see another dog and they told us no we "got too many out" we got maybe 5 dogs out. you wouldn't think that people would complain about doing a job that they get paid to do. a lady with black hair in a low ponytail was very rude, we heard her complaining that we kept asking to get puppies out. her and this blonde girl were very rude and snippy with us. they are dogs from puppy mills, which we feel bad for which is why we try to get them out. another reason we wanted to get them out was because they have big dogs crammed into these little cages that don't even have beds. me and my boyfriend watch a older lady who was working in the back feeding the dogs kick one because it got out. do not recommend at all, they treat the animals very poorly. read more

I bought 30 crickets there for a gecko, and when I got them home, and noticed most were dead, the gecko won't eat them in less they are alive. They had the package so you couldn't tell. When called to let them know, they won't do anything about it. Very sad they can't make thing right or better. read more

I Felt bad got the bogs. People were nice. Puppies were cute. Fish tanks were dirty. They let you handle the animals.

Me and my friend would come in to hold puppies for something to do and wanted to eventually buy one, we waited for about 2 weeks to come in to buy a puppy when we had the money and they told us we weren't allowed to hold any puppies anymore and needed to talk to the owner. Everyone else was able to hold them but we couldn't only because we didn't have the money right away to buy one. The workers there don't do anything but stand around and are very rude. they wound only let us hold the puppies for about 5 mins the time we could hold them. Would not recommend buying a dog or any other animal from there. read more

If you are in a bad mood and you want to play with puppies to cheer you up, don't come here!! I left feeling so sad and also so motivated to do something about puppy mills. The owner will say that he gets them from breeders that he trust, but I just don't know if I can trust him. I mean how can you get that many dogs from breeders? That you trust? Also they charge over $1200 for dogs. I mean that screams puppy mill. The smell that radiated from Siamese cats was revolting! I felt so bad for them all huddled in the corner. (Also I think if you buy a cat, that's just silly, they are free at the shelter. Free Cats!) The dogs, while all awake and in good spirits, had poop in most of the cages, some scratched holes near where the water was and some had 3 and 4 in a cage that was clearly too many. Lastly, there is also a guy dressed as a dog on the street corner flagging people into the store. I'm pretty sure it's the same guy all the time because he always does this "Be-Bop" dance, as my sister and I refer to it lol. One day I drove past and there were protesters across the street saying that they were against puppy mills. He had a sign that said,"I'm against puppy mills too" it was weird. read more

The manager or whom ever he was saw us getting a different dog to interact with and publicly humiliated us. During this process, dogs as young as puppies are bread repeatedly for puppies so they can sell puppies for profit is nicely put. I was not only appalled, but completely disgusted that pet stores continue to participate in inhuman acts to animal to make a buck. Puppy mills have been around for decades. They continue to thrive because they prey on unwitting consumers who are smitten by too-cute-for-words puppies in pet store windows and on legitimate-seeming websites. Puppy mills house dogs in shockingly poor conditions. After their fertility wanes, breeding animals are often killed, abandoned or sold cheaply to another mill to try and get "one more litter" out of the dog. The annual result of all this breeding is millions of puppies, many with behavior and/or health problems. As an advocate against animal cruelty, I live for bringing justice to those who don't have a voice to speak up when being neglected, abused, tortured, and abandoned. I have heard countless horror stories of puppies who had been adopted only to have, develop, and suffer with multiple medical complications. When contacted from those who have adopted form Harbor Pet Center, they refuse to take any responsibly, and what's even more frustrating is continuing to do business with puppy mills. Of course these animals are adorable, but at what price? The experience of these animals suffering? hundreds in vet fee's, ongoing medical care, and at worst, developing a bond making these new addition to families die based on their negligence. I bought Willow My chi 15 years ago and just bought my new puppy Ziggy from there. Everyone was kind and knowledgeable regarding the breed. Kerri is even watching my dog while I am on vacation. I had a very pleasant experience. It says the name of the breeder and where my dog came from in Ravena.My puppy had a cough and they paid the bill without question. My puppy was checked out and fund to be a perfect puppy. He wasn't a puppy mill dog. I fight against puppy mills. I do hope they are not from puppy mills. read more

My boyfriend and I come here occasionally just to see the different dogs they have. Most of them are "designer" breeds (AKA mutts with fancy names sold at high prices). They are notorious for getting their puppies from puppy mills. The puppies are kept in small cages. Sometimes they're too big for their enclosures and I can't imagine that being good for a young, growing dog. Most of them are extremely lethargic. The last time we went we heard a puppy screaming (not crying, but screaming) in the back room. Needless to say, we turned right around and left immediately. We will never be coming back to this sad place. I will never go shopping here for my pet supplies. This awful organization won't get a cent of my money. read more

Today me and my mother both got declined for a finance for a dog? i understand why i didn't in a collage student with no credit so that's why i had my mother come in and apply for me and she also got declined which makes no sense because she just got a credit card last month for best buy which she had paid everything off on it. they go through a sketchy credit company called military credit union and they declined us because "we didn't meet the criteria" so she proceeded to ask what that criteria was and they couldn't tell us what is was and why she got declined. very sketchy and very disappointing. I bought a golden doodle puppy at Harbor Pets and brought it home like you would any puppy you buy, I immediately noticed issues with his skin, and his ears were filthy. I cleaned his ears and they had black gunk in them! The puppy's skin issues were due to a staph infection, vet checked of course. The ears were infected as well! The puppy screams and hollers when put in a crate! I mean this screaming is deafening! It never ends! Cries and whines constantly, all day, you can't walk away, you can't put it in a crate to go run errands. He poops anywhere and in his crate. Doesn't seem to want to poop in grass but will poop while playing or like I said in its crate. He doesn't know how to play or interact with humans almost like he has Autism. It's been a nightmare. I mean I can't play with him all day, can't walk away. He screams and hollers, like your killing him if you don't bring his water right away or his kibble. It's insane! I've raised 4 dogs and I have never experienced this type of behavior...I knew immediately something was not right! Do not buy a puppy from here. Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do with him, the constant yelling has drained us! We spent $1600 for him! We spoke with the manager and they give you the run around. Terrible people! This store is horrible. My aunt just bought the most adorable puppy from there and we immediately tried telling her that she shouldn't have and that they all come from puppy mills and they live in tiny cramped cages breathing in their own urine and feces until someone buys them. She only had it for one week and it died. Her text stated that after taking it to the vet they found out it had coccidian, a puppy parasite. she took it back to the vet the next day because it was vomiting and had diarrhea. She had to force feed her every 2 hours and the puppy died hours later in its cage. My friend rented her puppy from there and it had keenel cough and a runny nose for months until she returned it. This place is awful and overcrowded with sick pitiful puppies and other animals shipped from mills all over the country and needs to be shut down immediately. read more

My granddaughter wanted to see the puppies so we stopped here. The awful smell greated us at the door. The puppies were dirty and crowded some, with four to a cage. There were larger dogs that barely fit in the cage and did not look well. We took a puppy to a little room to play with. The floor was covered with urine. The little pup smelled horrible. I have bought both of my dogs from Harbor Pet Center. I love how the employees love the animals and really want to give them a good home. Their warranties can not be beat either. A week after I brought my second puppy home she got parvo from the dog park and Harbor Pets covered 100% of my medical expenses and made sure my puppy got healthy again. Also, I was prepared for a pet store to smell bad but they had wax melt set up around the store it smelled amazing and the puppies were all in good condition. The owners do stick with the same breeders, I actually know one of them. He is getting his female fixed soon so Harbor Pets will be out of Dalmatia so for good unless they find another breeder they trust. Also, the owner personally goes And picks up the puppies they are never shipped, even in the winter. That shows a lot. read more

My family purchased a dog from this business. It was the most traumatic experience for my children I will never do so again. Not only did the dog die from parvovirus within 2 days of being home I had found out the other two that were with him one had also died. Refunding my money does not heal the scars on my children or myself. This store is horrid and the employees are worse. Lets start with the animals. All of them are sick. All of them. They are over crowded and people are allowed to handle them whenever they want. I am a fish keeper. Let me say, I would never, ever, under any circumstance allow any of their aquaria livestock anywhere near my $4000 setup. They are kept improperly, withe the wrong tankmates, lighting, hideouts, etc. Fish kept in such a stressful environment don't ever last long. And half of the fich have ick. Nasty, painful infection that is, and none are being quarantined or treated properly. Now, the employees. They don't know what they are doing. Or maybe they do and don't care. Or perhaps they are just lazy. Cages are never cleaned by the looks of it, not that they would stay clean very long with the way they are overstocked. Puppies are not kept healthy and are overcrowded. My family bought a chihuahua from the store about 5 years ago. Lets just say that as it grew up it was not a chihuahua. Definitely a mix. And his papers they promised to mail us? Don't have those. They lied. Plus when we got him he had a staple in his tail from a surgery to stop the bleeding when another puppy bit his tail off. BIT HIS TAIL OFF. I notice when i went in the store last night that a clownfish and a dragon wrasse were being kept with a snowflake eel. Oh, and also a dead annularis angel. I informed an employee and he said he already knew. Needless to say, I will never set foot in that pit of despair again. All their products are overpriced as well. Save your money and go to petsmart. Recently purchased a Dog from these con artists. This animal began to bite and attack small children along with my own son. After only having the dog two weeks and being displeased with the behavior of the dog, even after paying for expensive training first, we attempted to return the dog. The unprofessional owner attempted to intimidate me, (which did not have the effect he was planning). He argued with me along with his "amazing staff members" right in front of customers! I purchased a King Charles Spaniel at the end of July. I took him for the recommended 1 week vet check after purchase to my local vet, not the vet Harbor Pets use (I didn't want to drive that far again for a vet visit) and he got a clean bill of heath. The store it self was what I expected for a pet store, it smells like pets lol. The staff was very helpful considering how busy it was at the time I was there(Saturday). I asked the staff where the puppy came from and they told me a local breeder, I didn't question it, but was curious because of the price. My first King Charles was purchased direct from a breeder and I paid four times the amount. So for the great price I made the purchase and been very pleased with the puppy, he's very playful, happy, and healthy. read more

I don't understand why everyone says they're a puppy mill. They WERE part of one when they were part of pet land, which is why they're no longer associated with them. They do NOT get their dogs from puppy mills, they get them from a lot of different people around Ohio and Pennsylvania. If you have questions about their dogs, then ask to see the paper work on the parents of the dogs and the owners. The main reason I go here is to buy fish and coral, which is the best part of the store. They have the best guy working there who's been there for about 6 years or so and he can tell you everything about a certain kind of fish or coral. He's really helped me out with my fish tank and I couldn't tank him enough. Also, he even does orders for me if they don't have a certain fish or coral that I want and i get it within a week or two, depending on where they get the shipment from. Overall, I like this store. I know a lot of people that drive a few hours to come to this store over their stores in their towns. read more

I wish I could give this place 0 stars. I went in excited to see happy pups but I was disappointed and sad. The puppies were in small cages, no food and no water. They weren't even excited, they very all extremely lethargic with swollen bellies... I was talking to an employee (very sweet girl but she looked miserable) about a puppy and when she brought it out, it relieved herself (no big deal, puppies do that) but her stool looked so unhealthy... Out of curiosity, I asked the employee how much the puppy would cost. A whopping $1,900! I felt awful. Everything about this place screamed puppy mill. As I was walking around, my friend and I noticed a man in a turban (judge free here idc) walk into the back with two cage carriers with puppies in them, it was super sketchy. Then an older lady working there seemed very aggravated, raising her voice about,"tell them no refunds! Blah blah blah!" and I believe this man was the manager, but he was very assertive and rude when he spoke to my friends and I. One of the mice had a weird sore/gash on its neck and there were dead fish in the tanks.... Very overcrowded with wrong setups! Please do not support this store -- everything about it scream PUPPY MILLS. Go adopt an animal at your local shelter! Paying $1,000+ for a sick puppy is ridiculous. read more

I'm a little puzzled by other reviews, as my experience buying my yorkiepoo "Bandit" at Harbor Pet on 1/27/16 has been 100% positive. I tried my best to find a shelter dog or a breeder's dog, but could not find a dog suitable for my grandchildren. Coming in from out of state and being fairly new in town, I had no preconceived notions about Harbor Pet--just wanted a pleasant, small, family companion dog. I found the store and the animal cages/containers/aquariums etc. clean and well-kept, with plenty of friendly, knowledgeable staff to spend all the time with me I needed. I bought "Bandit" on sale, and the price seemed OK to me. He seemed like a well-socialized, healthy little pup, and the vet confirmed this. Going back to the store over the past four months for dog food and supplies has continued to be a pleasant experience, and the animals and cages continue to look fine.Personally, Bandit and I can't thank Harbor Pet enough. I would recommend at least taking a look. read more

it seems to me like they take at least decent care of their animals. they are stuck in a small cage, but they are fed properly, there are normally toys available, the poop gets cleaned up decently, and they do get played with. i purchased a dog from here and it came with akc and breeder papers. they also offer a few cool little warranties to help in case of accidents or hereditary problems. overall, its a decent place to purchase from. read more

Extremely sickened by the frauds at Harbor Pet!!! I had my 13-week up puppy pass away and they basically said it was my fault and the warranty wouldn't cover him. $1,500!!! They tried saying I left him outside all day in the heat, which caused him to have a heat stroke. He was outside 2, maybe three hours in the MORNING, with plenty of water, shade and I even gave all four of my dogs a hose down to keep them cool. Yes, I said four dogs, its not like having a puppy was a new and foreign land to me. So to insult my intelligence about raising a puppy and accusing me of killing him, is downright pathetic. I even had my vet, who put him down, they even confirmed heat stroke wasn't even possible because there weren't any symptoms and the temperature wasn't near high enough to cause one. I relayed this message to Harbor Pet, and they just didn't want to hear it, they had "their own people" diagnose a piece of paper and said, "yep, it was a heat stroke". If you show 50 people an ink blob, you're going to get 50 different answers! All they care about is pushing out as many puppies as possible and they don't care if any die in the process! They find any way around their bullshit warranties to make you still pay. Like putting down a 13-week puppy wasn't hard enough, now you're accusing me of killing him and still making me pay $1,500. Yes, fifteen hundred. Think about that for a second. And the saddest part, I received a sympathy card from both my vets and everyone signed the card, Harbor Pet? Nothing. All I got was a "It was your fault and you still owe the money." You should be ashamed and I don't know how you guys sleep at night. read more
