The entire hike got us was about 3 miles. A simple hike that is good enough for a beginner. It had a steep hill and I was so out of breath going up but when you get to the top at the lookout point it was all worth it. The lake wasn't the cleanest as the water was green but there were still people fishing. A lot of picnic tables to sit, eat or hang out and a big parking lot with adequate space.

This is a fantastic park, one of the best we've been to in CT since moving here…read more Chatfield Hollow has a little bit of everything: There's history (This was a park built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the 30s) there's fishing, there's even a little sliver of a beach. There is a climbing wall in the southern end of the park that is pretty popular, having been a place for rock climbing since the '70s. There's also a really nice network of trails here, from short little jaunts to a decent route that takes you all around the park. This would be a great park to just come and have picnic, or spend all day wandering the woods. It's well maintained and has restroom facilities all around. A+.

This is an interesting park. George Dudley Seymour State Park is adjacent to Hurd State Park, it's…read morejust to the south of it. Access to the park is at the end of Clarkhurst Road, which basically dead-ends at what used to be a bridge for cars, but now is a pedestrian bridge. There's a small gravel lot here, across from a private residence. The first part of the park is interesting - after you cross the bridge, you're still hiking on old roadway, down the hill. Once at the bottom of the hill, there are a number of meandering little trails, none of which are blazed. If you follow the main trail, you eventually end up in a semi-marshy area, where paths have been mowed. This would be a great park if there were a little more signage and trail blazing. Just even an entrance sign would be enough.

We came here because of the DEEP Sky's the Limit Challenge, which this year highlights "lesser…read moreknown trails." And this park seems to fit the bill - what a nice hidden gem! It was a pretty cold and blustery day when we came here, but it was still rather pretty, and we had the park to ourselves. I can imagine that the park is great in the summer - there's the pond, with a beach area, numerous picnic tables sprinkled around all over, a large picnic shelter for big picnics, and some nice benches for chilling and watching the water. There's some maintenance issues that need fixing - there's a bridge over Day Pond creek that needs repair, it's a barrier to completing the Salmon River Loop Trail. The trail itself is great, with a lot of varied terrain, and a nice hike to a waterfall in the nearby Salmon River Forest. Definitely a great place to visit!
