But for us, arriving into Haines late, we were super thankful for the food menu. Surprisingly the food was really fair priced and actually pretty good! Food advice: the pretzel and mini pizza come out really fast, so if ordering both maybe pace yourself and order one at a time. Stopped again before the ferry. The place was super packed at 4pm on a Tuesday! Friendly service. Good food. Cold drinks.

Sure enough, a little while later, the crowd had thinned out and we easily found a table. Ordering was easy: the halibut fish and chips! My wife had a half order and I the full one. Wow, these put our Bay Area cod-based fish and chips to shame - just delicious! Our server was super friendly, and lots of locals here, all good signs. A full bar, if you are in the mood. They had several empty tables and the bar area was almost empty. While waiting I had plenty of time to notice how run down and dingy it is inside. When I looked in the bar it smelled musty. Although it was raining and windy we got off the cruise ship and walked about 15 minutes to this restaurant located adjacent to a small boat harbor. I was surprised more cruise ship passengers didn't stop in here to experience this adorable little slice of old west Americana. We arrived soaking wet and were thankful to have a nice quiet, toasty and warm space nearly all to ourselves. Here's a few things we loved: Views: unobstructed view with small boats, and great view of the cruise ship in port that dwarfed everything else in the area. Peace and Tranquility: after being on the endlessly noisy cruise ship it was almost jarringly quiet in here with the soft rain and gray clouds outside we enjoyed the fact we were about the only patrons in here and could have a nice conversation over a cup of coffee without yelling to hear each other and no constant clanking of dishes. Service: prompt, courteous, super nice polite waitress. All our food came out quickly, hot and exactly as ordered. Food: we ordered the halibut n chips, chowder and shrimp. The halibut was fresh, and perfectly breaded, with a light beer type batter, crispy on outside and juicy on inside. Tartar sauce was on point! Fries/chips were as expected. Chowder was rich and had good flavor also. Shrimp cocktail as expected. Of course the halibut was the star of the show as expected. Do yourself a favor, when in Alaska you must always order whatever fresh local fish they have no matter what! Beer: we had the Alaska White beers on tap and they paired quite well with the fried halibut! Overall we loved this place, primarily for the quiet ambience, and super fresh halibut. If we ever get back to Haines we want to come back to this restaraunt for sure, and would love to try the attached bar and pool table room which looks quite cozy but was closed at the time we visited. Looks very "Wild West" cozy with great Alaska beer selections as well!

Their cauliflower crust is pretty tasty and it's a nice treat. Came in early morning today 10:15am because with 4 cruise ships in port the wait would be longer later in the day. We were seated immediately, I love their Miner's Morning Martini basically an Espresso martini. The bartender's do a great job and don't skimp on the booze. Usually follow up with the Reindeer Fart Shot as those are quite tasty too but as I hadn't had any breakfast I was feeling the drink. The Classic gluten free pizza was as always yummy and worth the wait if you don't get here early. In this visit, hubby got the Big Dessie and AK Brewing vodka Lemonade enjoyed both.

Got a tip from someone at the local visitors center about this spot, so we took a chance and hiked on up to their location...so glad we did! The inside was quirky and interesting, with great tunes playing as well. The guy behind the bar (sorry, cannot remember his name) was a hoot and we quickly connected with him as he made our craft cocktails. They were so good, we had a round two before stumbling our way back to town for dinner. It was a real treat to find this spot, and being my wife's birthday made it even that much more special. I was trying to get some souvenirs and she told me a couple spots to check out and held my table while I went across the street! I wanted something fresh and local and they're a great place for that. It's her parents restaurant and her mom grows herbs that they use in dishes. Olivia travels a lot so it was serendipitous that I actually got to meet her! Seemed like a spot a lot of the locals hang at, felt very homey, Cheers type everyone knows your name place with delicious food! I did a Rojito, seafood pasta and a side of crostini. The drink was so refreshing! I remember her mom was involved with its creation and of course it's her fresh grown mint! The pasta had huge chunks of very tasty seafood! Outside of being here (AK) I probably wouldn't order something like that but I'm glad I did. The pasta was delicious and the seafood was fresh. The crostini's were so good too. I hear they have great desserts but we shared a fry bread earlier and there was just no room for more. I got a shirt bc I couldn't not. I truly loved it here. Such a chill, kind vibe.
