I cannot say enough nice things about Atria. My mother lived there for over a year until her…read morecondition progressed to a point of needing a much higher level of care. The Atria and the staff were a blessing to mother and to my family. I wish she could've stayed there until the end. When mother first moved in, they permitted me to spend the night for a couple of nights to help her get settled. The residents and staff were so welcoming, and they even treated me to breakfast on the house. I had to take mother to a couple of doctor's appointments, and they made the process really smooth by providing me with a copy of her records and helping with the sign-in/sign-out system. I'm a nurse and work long hours. That first night, I didn't get there until really late and the staff were great about letting me in and showing me where to go, etc. The nursing director, Elizabeth, is an angel. You can tell she really cares about the residents and their families. I often saw her staying after hours, visiting with residents in the dining hall, and freely giving hugs and warm smiles. It's the little things like this that matter! I knew I could always ask questions and she would quickly help me. She was immensely helpful as we navigated a difficult family situation, and for that I will always be grateful. So many of the med techs were just amazing -- attentive and kind. They checked on mother often, reminding her of meal times, chatting with her, making sure she had her medications and that she got showered and ready for bed, etc. Mom made quite a few friends in the techs, and so did I. There were one or two techs who were kind of rough-acting with mother. Unfortunately, no business or facility is ever going to have 100% of the staff going above and beyond. My only other criticism is that Atria has a skeleton crew on weekends, so that can be challenging. None of the admin is there to oversee/direct and they tend to be short-staffed on those days. For this reason, I subtracted one star from what would have been a five-star score. Atria does a great of job of engaging with residents. My mother, unfortunately, was a bit socially withdrawn and didn't want to participate very often, but she was certainly never excluded from being invited. Atria offered exercise classes and social hour, had musical performances in the lobby, church services for those wanting to attend, scenic rides in the bus, etc. There's always something to do for anyone who wants to be active. Four months after mother left Atria, she passed away. During the time in-between, both Nicole (front desk) and Elizabeth (head nurse) checked in with me to see how mom was doing. When they found out she passed away, they sent flowers and called both me and my sister to offer condolences. I would absolutely recommend Atria to anyone looking for a nice place for their senior/aging parents.

They never assessed her after discharge from rehab for her next living arrangement, even though they had agreed and we signed for long term care. I just got a call one day saying they had another meeting, without us, and decided among themselves, "We think she can go to assisted living." Recently, the director blamed me for Wildewood's failure to go through the normal process to assess her. Before this, I got a call from the social worker saying that the doctor signed my mother-in-law's annuity paper we gave him, saying she was finished rehab and not a candidate for getting her insurance to pay for Wildewood. I was there when he saw her--for the first time I might add--and all he said, was, "Do you want me to fill this out?" He never assessed or asked any questions about any activities of daily living. During assessment, a patient should be assessed for memory care, long term care or assisted living for example. You just don't say, as the director said, we didn't assess her for assisted living because you told us to keep her in that room. But that was only after they said they didn't have another room. They assessed her when she came in and wrote, and we signed for long term care. When I called Wildewood assisted living, after they called and informed me of a meeting changing their minds. They told me they just have one fee, $7,000 a month, and the client pushes the button when she needs help. So there's no levels of care in assisted living. We quickly transferred my mother-in-law to The Blake after a nurse came from the Blake and we took her to a provider at MUSC to properly assess her. She was appropriate for their assisted living at a higher levelof care than Wildewood. It's a beautiful place and it's very clean, unlike the Wildewood facility. I went in Wildewood's public bathroom and it was dirty. Also, my mother in law's bathroom needed cleaning and straightening up. During her stay at Wildewood, there were multiple problems with communication. Other residents had serious falls right at the desk where they're supposed to be watching them. But they stay on their computers. I learned that the staff is mostly contracted. And they don't communicate with the next person coming in. One day my mother-in-law had an appointment with the optometrist. When it was time to go, the girl at the front desk said, "She's not going anywhere. Her primary care is Dr. Macon while in this unit." I said, "She has an eye appointment." She said, "Oh, she said she has primary care." I told her she has memory problems. But she should have known that. There is no continuity. Well, we paid $12,000 for holding her after rehab for two weeks because they said they didn't have another room to put her in, so I said keep her in that room until I could arrange a transfer out of there. She was staying in a rehab room and not getting rehabilitation. So in essence we paid for rehabilitation she wasn't getting. The doctor gave her 100 days of rehab under Medicare, which would take us into May, but they suddenly cut it short April 24th. When the transport came to pick her up, and our caregiver and my husband, her son, met her, they didn't know she was leaving that day and didn't have any discharge papers ready. Zee, the head nurse, apologized later, as I left the messages with her because I did not know they said somebody else does the discharging. They did get the papers ready quickly, and she got out of there before they charged us one more day. Originally when we got the bill, they charged us for all of May, and for the upcoming month of June, even though she left on May 17th. They changed it but they charged us for April 24th to May 17th.

Every mid- December we have received a form letter stating prices will increase effective January 1st. Everytime I have asked Crystal ( lady in charge of the facility) if the price will keep going up every year and she says she does not for see it ... yet it does keep happening. Literally giving us 2 weeks notice before the monthly price increase. Yet they expected a 30 day notice to move her out. The letter is the same every year the only thing that's changes is the amount that is added. We are moving our Mother out because of this and also the uncaring and very matter-of -fact way management has handle this. The staff is good ... However the management is very misleading. So if you have a set amount of money you can afford DO NOT put a loved one here. They will keep raising the price every year. My mom had been there 3 years and there has been 3 price increase . The first increase only 3 months after me moved her in, and then every December since.

When my mother's condition progressed to a point of needing memory care, she was moved from another…read morefacility that didn't have memory care to The Haven. The Haven's facilities are attractive and security is tight. However, the staff was beyond unorganized. When mother first moved in, we filled out tons of tedious paperwork, which The Haven promptly lost and we had to do it all over again. They also lost the orders from mother's doctor and so they had her medications all screwed up. It was a mess to reconcile. Even though mother had her own doctor, The Haven switched her to an in-house doctor who made several adjustments to her medications without referring to her records. She was given one medication that she was allergic to, and another that she couldn't tolerate, which he would've known if he'd checked her chart. I'm a nurse and quickly realized something was wrong, thank goodness, and had to go through a lot of hassle to first correct the medication issue and also to dismiss the in-house doctor. During one visit, I sat with mother in her room and not one single time did anyone come in to check on her. She was incontinent and needed to be checked for soiled diapers/clothes/linens, but no one was doing it that day. I had to go out of the room to ask for help and then had to wait forever before someone came to help me. I attempted to speak with the director, but she wasn't there, so I called her. She acted shocked and apologized via the phone, but no action was taken. And the next time I visited, it was the same story. Eventually, mother was placed under hospice care. Hospice sent a nurse out each day to check on mother. Because of this, The Haven basically discontinued any care; nevermind that we were spending MANY THOUSANDS every month for their services. I guess they felt like they were released of any responsibility. It felt like a ripoff and a scam. We found placement at a hospice house, and the day mother was supposed to move, I went to The Haven to help get her ready to leave and deal with transport, etc. I got there early in the morning and mom was in bed, and she hadn't been changed. The nursing director commented that they'd be in soon to change her and get her ready. Several hours passed, and they just kept saying they'd be in but never came. I was so upset and felt desperate, worried she wouldn't be ready for transport arriving at 1:00pm. I called my sister, who in turn contacted the facility director, who was dismissive and remarked that mother wasn't moving until the 4th. She had her days confused because it was the 4th on that day! After that call, staff came to help mother, but gave the lame excuse of not wanting to interrupt my time there with mother. That was a lousy excuse, especially considering that I had asked several times when they were coming to help. Once transport finally came to move mother out, I seriously did a happy dance. I regretted the decision for her to ever live there, and I would never recommend it to anyone. One star for the nice facilities, good security and decent meals; otherwise, they would get none.

Due to the ongoing inconsistency, I scaled back services to weekend respite care only. Unfortunately, that also became unreliable, with repeated instances where shifts went unfilled. We went weeks without care, and there appeared to be little urgency or effort from the agency to resolve the issue or ensure coverage. I eventually suggested we pause services until they could reliably staff our case. After that conversation, I never heard from the agency again--no follow-up, no explanation, no attempt to reconnect. We were effectively abandoned as clients. If your loved one requires more than basic companion care, be cautious. Based on our experience, they may not have the staffing or infrastructure to provide consistent, dependable support.

Yes, I missed an appointment today due to getting my schedule mixed up. I work a second and third shift job and mad a SIMPLE, yet honest mistake and this "Pretend/Disrespectful" person called and spoke to me as if I was a child. You really should get her into some leadership training so that she could increase her people skills.
