I arrived in-between tour times to give myself plenty of time to view the museum & gift shop. Dani Biersteker, Education Director & fellow knitter, took the time to answer my Qiviut knitting questions and taught me "Give a hoot about Qiv-iut". Several people arrived seeking farm tours, so Jessica gave an impromptu tour. Dani kindly let me tag along with the group; allowing me to pay after the tour so I would not miss out on any of the information. Jessica was an outstanding tour guide; informative yet funny. Jessica & Dani are incredibly knowledgeable and genuinely care about musk oxen conservation. This is a giant farm, with musk oxen roaming in very large fenced in areas. The surrounding landscape and mountain views are gorgeous. Please Note: For obvious safety reasons, this is not a petting farm. I paid for my tour ($16) and bought my once-in-a-lifetime100% Qiviut skeins. ($230 per 2 oz). I returned to the farm on my last day in AK to purchase gifts for friends & family back home. Doner Kebab Alaska is a little red food truck (trailer) with huge flavor. They are stacking and roasting rotisserie their own meat and it's Full of flavor, tender, and plentiful. The bread is not what I was use to living in Germany but my goodness it's good, ciabatta meets pita Classic fillings Very good. The fries were a little too salty, meh. Parked in what felt like someone's front yard. Walked past a bunch of antique farm equipment and a couple green houses to a boxcar situated on a slight rise above a field complete with a tractor turning up hay. (See pics) The boxcar was outfitted with a bathroom, sink, paintings, and a kegerator. They even had a Black Spruce Kolsch I'd never heard of. Lemony and vanilla and DELICIOUS! From the boxcar we walked onto a sunny deck with a host of umbrellas, tables, and chairs and what must have been 40 or 50 people. And books, of course! (Yay, Fireside!) And my instinct said, "why haven't I ever heard of this place? It's gotta have a YELP account." (Spoiler: it didn't) Looked it up on Google and discovered a very tasteful and simple website. Apparently it's available for events (like booze and books) and operates twice weekly as a farmer's market. Definitely coming back for the market!

They have a dirt parking lot that was filling up fast. As we headed over I was noticing all the things they have to offer. They had mini golf course with the balls and putts out I think it was open? And free? Not sure. There were a board of rules to follow but I didn't notice it till we were checking out. It was a little confusing on where to start but we just walked in and went straight the the crops. They also had little trikes for kids to ride and a huge inflated strawberry jumping pad that kids were all over. We started from the back of the field at the bokchoy which we got a couple of. You should bring a knife to cut the vegetables. Don't know if they provide cutters if you don't bring your own. They had tons of plants growing. Several feet wide and who knows how long with rows of bokchoy, broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, potatoes, and other things. We got bokchoy, one head of broccoli, and 4 pretty big Yukon gold potato's all for $5. We had carrots and other things growing in our garden at home so got minimal vegetables. Our friends got huge bags of carrots potatoes and other things. They paid around $30. Way cheaper than the store and guaranteed Alaskan Grown lol plus it's a great way to spend the day and experience something new. Not sure if this was the end or beginning or middle of the picking season but most crops were picked heavily on the beginning of the rows and you had to walk halfway down to find a plethora of picking options. Except for the carrots they had been picked over pretty well but still lots available. Most of them had several arms and people didn't want them. The potatoes were huge and had been tilled so you just pick them up off the ground, minimal digging required. The soil everywhere was very dry like they hadn't watered ever. Maybe they cut back when everything is pretty much grown. After you are done picking you stand in line to check out. We had to wait a little bit, like 15 minutes to check out because they were a lot of people there. They apologized for the wait time but it wasn't a big deal. They weigh everything then give you a price. I think they had price per pound posted somewhere but nothing was out in the open where you could see it easily. Overall I would definitely come back. We grow a lot of our own things in our backyard but lots of people don't have that option or don't want to. Fun place!

They have some cold salads, some all veggies and one with steak. The other entrees were shawarma, four chickens and one with ground beef, and one with sausage. The rest were veggies. They also have some apps. I got the shepherds mistake. It was cold mostly but some parts were a little warm. It would have been better hot. It was a white sweet potato base with ground beef and gravy. I wish it had had more flavor to it. Husband got the peach chicken with potatoes that were cooked with blsamic and thyme. We ordered a dish called apricot chicken and there was no apricot in the dish. There wasn't even anything fruity or flavorful pretending to be apricot. I was under the impression based on the name that there would be an apricot flavor. We were served bland, dry, cubed chicken that was pre-cut and completely over cooked. Despite it being over cooked, it came out lukewarm. There was no salt of any kind on any of the food. The only seasoning on the chicken was a little bit of pepper and a ton of rosemary. I looked for pieces of apricot, and there were none. There was no sauce either. The side was some steamed broccoli, and there was no salt or pepper anywhere in the restaurant. There are also no choices to drink other than sparkling water or water. The other dish we got was steak bites with mushroom gravy. I thought this dish was decent enough, but it didn't make up for the other dish, especially at $21-26 bucks per dish. Again also underseasoned with no option to season it on the table. The potatoes on both plates were extremely dry and while I did not mind it, I do not think most people would find them appetizing, especially with no salt or condiments. The cup that we got for water was dirty and have something black on the rim. The forks seemed dirty and covered in a film too, but we didn't have time to ask for an exchange because the owner was too busy working by herself. When we came in, we were saying that we were ready to order and she walked away and didn't come back for at least 15 minutes. As we were sitting there waiting, we were the only people there besides one lady who had ordered right when we came in. A few people came in and ordered to go orders while we were waiting for at least an hour. Multiple to go orders came over the phone while we were waiting. Instead of prioritizing the people in front of her who already ordered, she made at least six or seven different meals, and had them bagged waiting to go, while we waited for just two meals. My husband had to work in Anchorage and we figured that we would have an hour to go home and spend time together. By the time that we were done with our food, we didn't even finish it by the way it was so dry, we had to go home and he had to leave as soon as we got home because we waited that long. I do not like to leave bad reviews for small businesses, but the food was truly very poorly seasoned and so dry even I didn't like it (and I usually love dry chicken). It is a shame that gluten-free Alaska only has one safe place to eat, and the food and service are not good. It was so bad that I almost feel bad for the owner. She needs help cooking. I know that she was probably very stressed working by herself, but there is no reason to make all these new orders before serving the people sitting in your restaurant. I really hope that this owner will take this review with a grain of salt and improve their menu and service.

We have ordered Silver and Sockeye salmon retorts (fillets) and the Sockeye salmon jars. While the fillets are great, the jars are simply out of this world good. Shipping can be expensive so be smart about your order to get the best rate for the box. A group of us went in on an order the last time and it worked out well. You might want to plan your order ahead. They had everything I wanted to order the 2 times I've ordered from them but the site says they run out... If you ever have a chance to stop in, do so! We stopped in this summer on our trip to Alaska and it was worth the stop. They have a funky little shop off the main drag through Wasilla. You can poke your nose in the back room where a team of them will be furiously packaging fish during peak season.
