Needless to this establishment is worth going even w/o the festivities. Place is small I guess you could say it's intimate and cozy. We snagged a couple of seats at the bar and ordered a few appetizers.. Tuna Tataki came with a soy sauce plus had a hint of Jalapeño,Gyoza ( dumplings) along with a couple of Asian Beers. Both were freshly made, tuna good quality, dumplings also fresh, tasty and delicious. In my opinion was very reasonable priced, service is a bit slow ( BUT.. they make to order) well worth the time... have another Beer ! Staff is friendly, courteous and very helpful. From talking with the bartender it's locally owned and operated.. yaa ( my kind of restaurant) Kudos to the bartender/ owner and the chef.. Sushi/ Tuna/ Dumpling maker. My friend and I went to this restaurant for dinner last night. It started it off great. We had some edamame and ordered from an interesting menu. It turned out the sushi was pretty average, but okay. What was really disappointing was the service. The waitress kept coming over, trying to rush us out as we were trying to finish our drinks. If there was a line or people waiting, I could understand, but there was no one else waiting for a table. I doubt we'll ever go back. read more

Rude attitude!!!! Our family like to eat here and even recommended this place. But i was so dismayed on the customer experience we got from the owner/workers (?) from this place. Do not dine in here if you are more than 5 or party of 9 or more, they will not accommodate you though they have available tables and seating! They bluntly said " we know you but we'd rather not have you" because they were only 2 of them working on a Sunday and that time was not close to their closing hour. Server did not seem to understand what this entails as she brought out our rolls on the SAME plate with crunchy toppings spilled all over her gluten free rolls. They serve very good quality fish. The sushi is sliced thin and the rolls are delicious. We usually start with the seaweed salad, gyoza and the Tuna tataki it's so good! Comes with ponzu sauce and a little spice of Jalapeño you must try the flavors are incredible. Rolls that stand out in flavor the Hallow Scream if you like Salmon this might be your new favorite! Jessica is a step up for the regular Rainbow Roll! And for the baked goods please consider the Dynamite Roll it comes with scallops and is by far our favorite baked roll. We came here after I had read a fellow Elite review and we just did not have the same experience. Could be what we ordered, the sushi chef that day, our personal tastes, I don't know but it just wasn't what I was expecting. The place is small, which is just fine with 4 booths, 3 tables and 3 bar seats. Service was attentive to us, making sure we had everything we needed but our sushi was just bland. It was seriously the most flavorless sushi we either have had. I don't know what else to say about it honestly. With all the sushi options in Tampa Bay, we won't be back. This is a small place and we were lucky to get a table upon walking in. Fantastic service, fantastic sushi. I think this is my new local spot. I enjoyed the music and atmosphere and the interior lighting was perfect! Sushi does take a bit to prepare, since a lot of others order several rolls and there's only one sushi station for the chef. We decided to eat sushi instead of Mexican on our last night at Safety Harbor. Happy salmon had great reviews and within walking distance. We got here on a Saturday night around 5:30 and waited half hour to be seated. The place is very small. Seats maybe 20-30 people total. So if you are in a hurry don't come here and trash them because of the wait. If you want great sushi then be ready to wait. We ordered the octopus appetizer. Small but out of this world! We ordered the following rolls: Spicy lobster Oh baby roll Super dragon Hollow scream roll Caterpillar roll Fantastic. Flavors, quality and presentation where all there!! We waited about 45 minutes for our rolls but we enjoyed talking, looking at pictures and texting our son. I don't fault such a small business for having a delay in bringing out food. Im On vacation so I'm not in a hurry!!! Thanks Tony and staff for a wonderful dinner, great ambiance and 60s background music. We will be back in March and making this one of our stops. My husband and I came here while visiting Safety Harbor on a busier night. They immediately informed us the wait time would be about an hour, and we didn't mind waiting. We started off with two miso soups. The soup wasn't bad, but it was okay. It could have used some more vegetables and/or tofu. For dinner, we got the Fantasy and Kamikaze rolls. Both had very fresh ingredients and were very tasty. My favorite was the Fantasy roll because of the crunch on top. The service was a bit slow at times, but the sushi made up for it. I wasn't too crazy about this place the first time but I just went again last night and got a bunch of tuna and salmon sushi. They were really great and fresh! I'm sold on this place as my sushi place. They have a limited menu. They didn't have much choices for my kids to order. So they had udon and miso soup. They also liked the gyoza. Hidden gem. I noticed it was quiet and they played calm, easy-listening music, which is nice when you want to enjoy a relaxing meal. Was served quickly, and the server made sure the water was always full. The wait for the meal was not out of the ordinary, maybe 20 minutes. All of the sushi rolls I got; Tataki roll, Stacy Roll and Spicy Tuna hand roll, were fresh, crunchy and flavorful. My husband and I are trying to venture out of our normal sushi haunts to see what else is out there, and Happy Salmon was A-OK. We ordered the eel & avocado roll, salmon roll, dynamite roll, and avocado roll. We also tried their ginger salad and steamed dumplings. The dumplings were my favorite part of the meal. The rolls were good too, but those dumplings were fabulous! It was pretty cool that the dynamite roll had scallops in it. We love scallops, and we don't typically see that in specialty sushi rolls. My favorite roll out of the four was the eel and avocado roll. It was sweet and salty, which is what I enjoy when I'm eating sushi. We went on a Tuesday, so we were seated immediately. And service was great. Since there weren't a lot of other tables in there, I thought they might have certain specials to draw people in, but I didn't see anything. It seemed pricey for what we got. Unfortunately Happy Salmon hasn't convinced me to give up my regular sushi place, but it was still pretty good. read more

Why 4 stars? Great location in Safety Harbor, small family run sushi place, great saki options and good non-sushi daily specials as well. I have been coming to Happy Salmon now for the past couple years in Safety Harbor. What keeps me coming back for more? I think the local restaurant vibe is awesome. It's a family owned place in which the owners seem to know a lot of their customers. Sushi is always fresh and creative, with a ton of selections to choose from. We've tried a ton of stuff on the menu, but seem to always go back with our old standby selections of the popcorn lobster roll (baked) and monster roll, but also have tried many others. Recently to keep up with demand they have also hired waitstaff to assist. This has helped keep up with orders, but I also think this is why I'm not giving Happy Salmon 5 stars. I'm not sure if it takes away from eating at a family run place, or the speed/attentiveness of the waitstaff or perhaps the friendly level, but something just feels different from when we've eaten there and the owners are serving us vs. eating there and the waitstaff is. I really hope they can make some improvements in this area. With the above being said, we still enjoy this place a lot and enjoy that this is a great little Sushi place in Safety Harbor. read more

In all seriousness, I'm a huge foodie and lover of (good) sushi and Happy Salmon is for sure one of my top 3 favorite spots in the area (and it isn't #3). I used to come here weekly, and order the same two rolls, but unfortunately have been too busy in the past year or so, and my schedule doesn't tend to work around their hours. Super disappointing but I try to stop by or get takeout when I can. Besides the hours, the only complaint I have is that I wish they offered more appetizer options, similar to those offered at typical sushi joints. Would be awesome to be able to get an order of crab rangoons or shrimp shumai with my favorite sushi. However, I understand they are a small family owned business, with a very, very small staff, so adding more food to the menu is probably the least of their worries. Going along with that, many people like to complain about wait times but you have to understand that it is just the owner/his wife running the place and making all of the sushi. If you want quick sushi, don't come here, Ocean Blue is a couple miles away. But it sure won't be as satisfying on your stomach or soul! read more
