We stumbled across this place on Yelp through the wonderful reviews, and boy were they spot on. The food was highly flavorful and delicious. Highly recommend making a reservation, especially on busy nights!

I had dinner at Los Altos after someone recommended the restaurant to my girlfriend. The restaurant…read moreis located at the rooftop of a building that is only a short walk away from Galatasaray Lisesi, right in the middle of Istiklal street. The restaurant has a very decent view, but to get a table near the window, you need to reserve. Especially on weekends. Also we went there in early autumn and it was a bit chilly so make sure to bring an extra layer. We tried the mango chilly margarita and it was very good. It accompanied the tacos and enchilada well. For dinner we had the fish taco, the chicken taco with pico de gallo and red enchilada. I assume they make their own tortillas as they were very authentic and almost the same as the ones in Mexico. However the fish, somehow, had a very local, very Turkish taste. I don't know how but it gave the taco a Turk-Mex twist. It was very good, we just didn't get the authentic Mexican taste from the Taco despite the good job they made with the tortilla. The enchilada too was wrapped in a great tasting tortilla. While the meet was a bit dry it was all in all a good enchilada. The service was good, attentive, kind and quick. My problem with other Mexican places in Istanbul was the poor quality of service. Los Altos does not have that problem. I think this could be a good spot for a date, or if you wanna go for something different with friends.

As a vegetarian, the menu looks a little bewildering, but when you choose your own ingredients for the your own burrito, it's great. I wasn't sure what I wanted so I asked the owner to surprise me! I had a Mexican bean burrito with carmelized onions, sauteed peppers, guacamole, and pico de gallo. It was awesome! The first time I took it home to eat- and had it cold:( The second trip I had a burrito with beans, pepper, onions, cheese, and potatoes. It was different. I liked the first one more. They do everything they can to accomodate vegetarians and vegans - which is nice. My husband had a chicken burrito with extra chicken. He seemed happy with it. The decor is nice- I especially liked the swings. I didn't think I would like to eat while sitting on a swing, but it turns out, it's quiet comfortable. As they are still pretty new, there might be somethings lacking, but I think it's going to be great. Right now there is no website or phone number:( but I'm sure there will be soon.

Ranchero is a fine establishment. I hesitate to give it five stars but actually I don't have…read moreanything bad to say and for a foreign food place in Istanbul that in and of itself is outstanding. First of all, I had the most lovely melon margarita ever. Having turned 21 after leaving the US I can't say I've ever had that many margaritas. But this one was strong, delicious, and flavorful. It really was great. I got a combo fajita (beef and chicken) and it was also tasty and nice. It came with 10 hand-made tortillas which was the perfect amount for the food that I had. Very, very nice. It also came with black beans, salsa, guacamole and a white sauce I wasn't familiar with. All nice and fun and hard to find elsewhere of course. My dinner date and I also shared a plate of nachos which was excellent. I want to complain about price -- for our two dishes and two drinks the bill flew past 100TL -- but honestly, how often do you get to eat Mexican food in Istanbul and if you tried to make the dish/drinks yourself you would easily spend that much in supplies. For that reason, I find it acceptable. The only thing I would advise them to do is make beer a bit a cheaper. Who wants to spend 13TL on a 33mL draft beer? Yikes. I would have stayed longer and had a few if the price was more reasonable. After your meal they serve a little lemony blue drink which is some kind of curacao based, non-alcoholic delight. It's kind of like a shot but not. A not shot. Very nice touch. Service was average, they were attentive but not friendly. No one said bye as we left, which is a bit unnatural in Turkey but didn't bother me that much. :) All in all, highly recommended for a special night.

That is not meant to be an insult to the Mexican owner. I am sure it kills her to not be able to serve genuine Mexican food. The ingredients are just too hard to get in Turkey. However, they make their own tortillas and they are really light and good. Their black bean soup is outstanding. My husband generally gets beef dishes and he is always satisfied. I have tried a lot of things on the menu. I like the California burrito. I always leave feeling like it's too expensive, but that's the Istanbul dining scene. And I always leave wishing it was just better. But I think they are doing the best they can.
