There isn't that much in Woolworths that we need, but it still makes us happy to pay a quick visit every once in a while after work. Everything you need in a grocery store is here. I just wish it was as big as the Wal-Mart I saw in Texas. Depending on what you need, you can spend anywhere from $10 to $120 as you exit the store. By the way, I scored a brand new computer desk lamp for only $19.95!! Where else can you buy such a thing for a low price? That's half the price of the lamps that rip you off at other places! I needed one desperately for my long hours of yelping in front of the computer because the old lamp that served me for 15+ years finally ran out of globe life. If you hunt properly, you can actually find some great grabs for less than $5! They're always doing low-price promotions here! I love it! I don't usually carry much cash, but that's okay! There are plenty of those swiping machines for you to use now, when you've collected all your items. Yay! God bless the staff in green for helping everyone out when they're stuck on the swiping machines, as we walk out. God bless this new invention for supermarkets! I wonder if any other non-grocery stores will take this concept on? So I walked out with new boxes of tissues for my hayfever in less than 5 minutes. In and out. If only I had more cash for groceries, I'd actually love this store because they are the number one most profitable supermarket business in Adelaide, and none of their competitors come close to the amount of profits "Woolies" make every year. And I must commend the staff in their green uniform, thank you for the friendly chat when I needed to decide which orange juice to buy, and the difference between the Aussie juices and the imported juices. However, this depends where you are exactly. If you're shopping on the upper level (there are only two levels), then you have a very slim chance of being helped in the aisles (no-one's there!), and that's not right because that's where customers need the most help = finding things! Nevertheless, I ALWAYS find myself drifting back and forth inside here everytime I'm in Rundle Mall. I confess, I'm a certified Woolworths regular.

Combine that with a consistently well stocked fruit and veg cabinet, fresh Kitchenhand Salads and Prepacked Gluten Free meals by Enzos this place is my go-to supermarket if I have had "one of those weekends," and haven't gotten a chance to go to Foodland. It's open late - even at the time of the evening when you're just starting to decide you might want a little bit of late night chocolate or gelati - this place will cater for you. I'm a big fan of their falafels which they get from Abdul's Kitchen but sometimes these are not as fresh as I would like. Even better is that this IGA has some of the friendliest staff around, particularly for check out chicks!

I preferred to do most of my shopping at the Central Markets, as it was vastly cheaper, but they aren't open every day. Which brings me to the big winning point of IGAs, including this one. Opening hours. Despite their slightly higher prices, they manage to compete by being open later at night on weekdays and weekends. Each IGA is slightly different, and this one is quite vastly different to the IGA at the other end of Hutt St. This one is on the up-market side, stocking a wide range of gourmet products. The City East deli stocks a range of cakes, pastas, salads, quiches and antipasto. In the fridges you can pick up pre-made meals from a range of local producers. I used to keep my eye on the discount fridge, where deli products went to die. The fruit and veg section isn't awful, but pricier than most. There is a rudimentary few aisles of basic home needs like toilet paper and light bulbs. Next to the regular tinned veg and pasta section is a little stand with fancier Italian products - nice sauces and egg pastas. In the icecream freezer you'll find the Maggie Beer range. Not a bad supermarket all round, and I'm sure it hits the target market of young professionals or wealthier types living in the city.

This Foodland is one of three that are embracing organic produce, wider range of locally sourced produce and less demanding impulse buys. I will generally source most of my shopping from farmers markets and local butchers but for my main shop for everything I will come here to get all those other daily needs. I can't tell you how happy it makes me to support a local business but I do have a tendency to pat myself on the back regularly :)

So, to hear so many people rave about Foodland means they must be doing something right. Friends that live in Norwood think they have the best Foodland. Same with those living in Mitcham. I'm a huge fan of my local at Frewville and this is my review, so I can say wholeheartedly, I think Frewville tops them all! I've been shopping here for six years and drop in two to three times a week. It had a major renovation in 2011 which has turned it from a daggy site with a great selection of produce, to a sensational, modern site with an array of quality products and a strong focus on local producers. Foodland are big supporters of South Australian products and offer a great range. The foodies I know will often shop here if they can't make it to Grote Street (or can't face the parking hassles) and I know why. I've picked up stuff here that I've never seen in a Woollies or Coles, such as Persian fairy floss or yiros meat in the freezer section. There's even an entire corner at the entrance of the store dedicated to fine foods. The small goods and cheeses available rival the Central Markets (big call, I know, but I stand by it) and there is a dedicated organic fruit and vege stand at the entrance. The staff always have a great attitude and are of all ages and give the impression they genuinely enjoy their job. With the renovation they've introduced a mini cafe at the entrance that offers espresso coffee, lunch items (rolls, wraps etc) and biscuits and cakes. There are a few tables near the checkouts and despite their odd position, there is almost always someone sitting at one of them sipping a coffee or having a bite to eat as I leave. On the odd occasion when a special is too good to forgo, I'll slip over to the nearby Woollies at Arkaba, but generally, you'll find me here, supporting a local company who supports local small business.

Ok, I know it seems rather silly to be writing about a giant supermarket that nobody will miss if…read morethey ever enter chinatown, but this one holds special significance to me and used to me a nightly haunt for me whenever I was up late at uni and needed a place to walk around or just restock on red bull and chips in the middle of the night. The only supermarket in town that opens again after midnight, it was like a beacon of hope for all those international students who had come to Adelaide not realizing that most places closed at 5pm and there was literally nowhere to go at night in order to shop. It has gotten better since back in those days, with shops opening up to 7pm or 7:30pm I think along Rundle Street, but back then, you'd go to Coles in chinatown after 12 and you'd see mostly asian people walking through the aisles, not necessarily to buy anything, but just to walk amongst potentially purchasable goods. I'm not one to judge, as I used to be one of them and really do appreciate Coles giving me a place I could go to in the middle of the night. Since moving away from the city, I have found an IGA near my place that never closes. Still, first's will always be firsts, and the chinatown Coles will always hold a special place in my heart that no other supermarket can replace.

Apart from the fact that I see everyone here, from old friends to old teachers, what makes this Coles great is that it sells things like imported gelatine, Korean wafers, and other international brands. Being on the brink of Chinatown probably explains why it stocks these amazing creations. Additionally, the staff are always friendly and cheerful, and ready to help. My shopping experiences have been nothing but pleasant here. Oh, and did I mention that they're open from midnight, Mondays to Saturdays? How convenient for all you nocturnal folk!

Ok I was dehydrated at the time on a hot summers day but I do have proof of its existence as I took a photo! Previously it was a K Food Express 24/7 supermarket and is now under new management, think they'd better do something about showing they exist online though! It was definitely handy being open as it is still a 24/7 store, as I was so thirsty and on New Years Day nothing much was open. There's an ATM inside, lots of posters decorating the front entry advertising bands, shows, etc which added a splash of colour and hipness. It's basically a mini mart where you'd only go for emergency supplies much like at a petrol station, but also great for any new visitors to the city to get supplies when staying in the nearby motels.

As a customer it drives me elsewhere in search of regular supplies. I understand there have been supply chain problems lately, but why haven't I been able to get a tube of toothpaste or a painkiller for 3 weeks when I can get it elsewhere anytime? Or a pack of muffins? Or kitten food? etc, etc If they fix their stock management situation they might find an increased regularity of customers. With the Coles up the road now closed, a lot of potential trade is going begging for lack of regularly available product.

I got to meet Chantalle, who runs the markets, and I got to sample plenty of things from the various stalls. I've been back a few times, and have got to see many changes at the markets, including the move to the beautiful Wesley Church on the corner of the Parade and Portrush Road. The market is a real mix bag, selling everything from vintage goods and clothing, craft, jewellery, fresh fruit, tea, and so much more. Regulars include an Indian curry stall which is always popular, and a book stall that support the Indigenous Literacy Foundation. There's the badge making stall for kids (you can bring your own pictures along, draw one, or choose from the ones available), as well as free kids activities, and sometimes you'll find a train for the kids or a jumping castle. Every time I head along I'm shocked that there aren't more people around. But I have a feeling that on some nice Spring & Summer markets they'll flock there. It's a great thing for the local community to embrace. The markets are on the 2nd & 4th Sat of every month.

Set in the heart of Norwood shopping district and with a huge fan base, this groceries store has everything to offer. You are greeted at the entry by the large Deli section, fully stocked with the most amazing cheeses, meats, salads, roast chickens and seafood. All the produce is fresh and ready to be packaged up for you to take home. The staffs in the deli section are always busy! You will need to reach for a number as I almost guarantee you will need to wait your turn. They are happy for you to try different sliced meats and olives, so do not hesitate to ask to assist with your decision. As for the fruit and veg, it is generally well priced and fresh. You will find a good organic produce section here with a larger than normal. The fruit and veg are always arranged quite neatly and during the busy periods you will find staff constantly re-stocking. Like most Romeo Foodlands, you will find a very diverse range of products from around the world and a lot of locally sourced goods. They are very South Australian proud and I have found the most amazing local products here. One thing to mention about this store is the amazing bakery section. The bread, rolls, pastries and cakes are all of very high quality and are baked daily. You will find all different types of sourdoughs, rye, baguettes, pizzas, loafs, etc...
