We walked in this place to get our haircut; the two ladies cutting hair had customers and we were told ahead of time that only one of the ladies knew how to cut women's hair; so, we agreed and waited our turn. The salon was pretty much empty, save for the two customers in the chair already. A couple of minutes two more men walked in and waited their turn as well. The nice lady who cut my sister's and my hair was super-friendly and professional. She expertly styled my sister's hair afterwards. My haircut was a lot easier since I opted for a simple bob with a shorter fringe (my bangs had grown so long, they were poking my eyes). Not a lot going right here these days. The wall has the price posted as $27, but after the hair cut, they try to tell you that your simple, been going here for last 5 years, basic hair cut is now tricky and special and they want an extra $8 to $10 for it. The shake down is really sleazy. The haircuts here vary from decent to bad, so it depends on the day for who cuts it for how it will look. I would recommend to avoid until they work out their problems. read more

We went here out of desperation because we couldn't find an open barber shop on Mother's Day and my husband had to have his haircut. The place was so unprofessional, the lady in charge did not care about customer service. She kept complaining loudly to the female stylist about her schedule and in the 30 minutes I was there I saw her run off 2 customers. The stylist did an alright job on his hair but I noticed she stopped working at least a half dozen times to talk with hands while the entire staff was having conversations. I found it very inappropriate and annoying. She also left dozen of red marks on my husband's neck which I haven't seen him have before. I wont be going back there read more

Been coming here for a few years now. Great service and experienced staff at reasonable prices. If you are looking for a clean fade ask for Nora or Vida who are my favorite but the rest of the girls can do great as well. Another big plus is they do both walk ins or appt. so if I'm not in a hurry I usually stop by and usually get help within 15-20 min. But if I'm on a schedule I can always call in and have them put me down for a set time later in the day. No plans or need for me to go anywhere else. read more

This is the only place I've ever had a successful haircut! You would think by how cheap it is it would be crappy but this is the only place I will ever go now. I've been a customer here for about 15 years. I always had my simple hair cuts done here as a kid, and when I got older and started wanting more elaborate styles I ventured out to other places and salons where I've paid over $100 for my hair to be done. I have never been satisfied at any of those other places. Far from it actually... I've had the most HORRIBLE haircut butcherings of all time at the most expensive places in Reno! I have a theory now, that the cheaper the place the better the haircut :) Because I've also gone to places like Super Cuts and they have also done a better job than the esteemed salons I have been to. I had always gone to Happy Looker a month or so after I had my hair cut at other places so that they could even it out and do the best they could to fix it without making it too short. Then I decided, why not just go to Happy Looker in the first place? And its been smooth sailing since then. The owner's wife (can't remember her name but she is almost always there during the day) is the only person who has been able to razor my hair and make a nice even transition at the ends - not choppy at all. And just this past week I had my hair cut and I described sort of what I wanted in terms of layering and face framing in the front and the lady (also can't remember her name) did it perfectly. And this last time it was only $14. I had my entire head of hair cut for under $20 and I couldnt have asked for a better look. I don't know, maybe I just have really bad luck at other places getting my hair cut, but after enough times I know I will always be happy with what they do at Happy Looker. There are going to be girls out there who will think I am crazy to say that this place that advertises trims at only $8 is better than any salon in Reno, but that's seriously how my luck has gone for me! I've been coming to the Happy Looker for over 20 years with a few years off here and there. Hey, I can't go here when I was living in Vegas. The longest wait I've ever had is about 10 minutes. And for the most part, my haircuts have been decent to really nice. Most of the stylist are pleasant and are willing to have conversations while cutting your hair. For the price, you can't beat it. They are located in the southeast corner of the shopping center at the southeast corner of Moana and Kietzki. -------------------- Bottom Line Yes. I really like giving good reviews, but only when they are earned. I was hoping to find a good, low-cost barber shop in Reno but I didn't find one here. In all fairness, there are probably half-a-dozen stylists who work here and perhaps I ended up with the only one who wasn't able to give a decent haircut. I came away with the impression that they simply lease chairs/stations to stylists since I paid the stylist directly and she made change from her equipment drawer, so maybe you'll have a better experience if fate delivers you to someone else. Well, onto the haircut encounter. I picked this business based on the other glowing Yelp reviews. The promise of a good, $12 haircut was an added bonus. As soon as the haircut began, however, I had the sinking feeling that I was in the land of the not-quite-right. The stylist seemed to be in a real hurry - rushing to comb my hair, dragging the power cord to the clippers across my chest, soaking my head with her water sprayer, and so on. Keep in mind, my hair style is a typical uncomplicated guy's hair style... no bald areas, parted on the side, just wanting her to even things out - trim above the ears, tapered in the back, etc. To accomplish this, the stylist grabbed the hair and began snipping rapidly in an almost manic way that I have never experienced in 50 years of haircuts. When she was done, my hair was so wet from her frequent spraying with water that it was hard to tell how bad the results really were. I left there hoping for the best but inwardly dreading how it would look when I got home and had a chance to wash the goo out of the hair and comb it myself. My wife (of 30 years) and I both agreed that it was the worst haircut I had ever received... shaggy, uneven, and too short in the wrong places. It's going to be a painful few weeks while I wait for the hair to grow out and can then sheepishly visit my regular barber and mumble something to him about being the victim of a drive-by-shearing. read more

By far the worst place I have ever recieved a hair cut from. I was going in to get my bangs cut, and I ended up walking out with about four strands of hairs cut as bangs. I wasnt asking for a difficult cut or anything and she still couldnt do something that basic. And not only that but the whole time I was telling her I needed my bangs to be thicker and to cut more hair she was yapping with the other hair dresser. I felt as if she did not even attempt to listen to what I, the customer, wanted out of the hair cut. I don't see myself ever trusting this place again, it was just a terrible experience. If you're looking for a good haircut at a cheap price I suggest to go to one of our local beauty schools, I obviously did a big mistake trying to drift from them. The owner/manager is extremely friendly and astute. He greets you as if you were their only customer. The barber/hairstylists are skillful, quick, and inexpensive. I used to go here all the time to get my kids haircut, but haven't been in a while. I decided to go after getting a bad haircut from another business. I went in at 5:30, they close at 6:00. 1 lady was waiting for a customer while the other was busy with one. The guy up front told me to go back to the lady waiting. I started walking back, she saw my hair and said, "you have an aline, you need to wait for her to get done". She then said, "she does that cut better". Even though she was a little abrupt, I was so grateful that she was honest. I sat down with Karen, and while she was a little rough with the clippers on my neck, she did a FANTASTIC job. I'm sooooo pleased. I showed her what I wanted, she said she could do it, and she did. I really appreciated the fact that even though it was past closing by the time she got done, and she was tired, she didn't rush the haircut.
