Little did I know that cuteness overload comes with a lot of responsibility and struggles, especially since I live alone, and have never had a pet in my life. In fact, as a kid, I was extremely scared of dogs! I knew I had to get a trainer when after the 2nd week, I started feeling overwhelmed with my puppy's energy and tantrums. Thankfully I found Diane! She has been a great mentor if I could use this word to guide me through my pup training journey. We had two formal sessions - 1st one was a 3 hour phone call where she patiently answered all my questions and gave me 100s of tools and things to buy and learn to build a "puppy training toolkit". The 2nd session was a 3 hour in person training session where she introduced training collar and other tools and showed me how to stop certain behaviors. The best thing is that Diane has been kind enough to answer stupid and repeated questions from me over text or phone at any time of the day. If I've felt overwhelmed, I've always had comfort to know that I have a personal counsellor/mentor available. Diane shared a lot of tools, tricks, and methods - most of them work great, some don't - some do, but not always - but that is just because each dog is different and each dog-parent relationship is unique. I am just glad to have all those tools and information available to tap into whenever I run into any challenge. I feel super confident in my puppy's training and the fact that I have all I need to train my puppy well, thanks to Diane! My puppy Zoya has been sleeping safe and sound in her crate from day 1, and sleeping all night from the moment I reached out to Diane. Zoya is fully potty trained, and walks on leash like a confident yet obedient queen! Diane is extremely knowledgeable about dog behaviors, illnesses, eating habits, and tantrums - and I always reach out to her first, before I reach out to my vet! We started class a week after we got them...and a week before the COVID-19 shelter in place started. Wendy quickly and seamlessly shifted the class online. That turned out to be great for our dogs since it meant fewer distractions than in-person classes. The class was a great way for us to bond with our newly adopted dogs, to get ourselves back in the mindset of training them (and, ahem, training ourselves), and to work through a few issues that came up with them. Henry, our just turned 2 year old greyhound, started exhibiting increasing reactivity to small dogs when we were on our walks around the neighborhood. So after Basic Manners ended, I enrolled us in Rowdy Rover (also online due to COVID-19), and it has made a HUGE difference. The class built on the foundation of Basic Manners, and has given me tools to redirect his frustration and excitement. That, in turn, has built his confidence, and we are both happier on our walks now. Wendy is a great trainer and behaviorist. She breaks everything down into steps that the dogs can learn, and makes you feel supported as you work with you dog. The homework between classes is fun and builds on the classwork, and I could see the progression in Henry's behavior from week to week. I sent an email quickly to make sure that classes were actually going to be held. We specifically took the Rowdy Rovers class with Wendy. I want to start off by saying that Wendy is an amazing trainer. She is super knowledgeable and genuinely cares about the success of your pup/dog. She also wants owners to be successful. It's important to note that you should take this class with realistic expectations. Don't go into this thinking that 5 weeks later, you're dog will miraculously not be reactive anymore. She makes sure you have the tools to continue working on your dog's reactivity well beyond the class. Since the end of class, we have made strides. However, we still have a long way to go. Because of this class, I've been able to take my dog outdoors more often, which is what I've been wanting to do from the start. I have been eyeing some of her online courses, so hopefully we can take classes with her again in the near future.

We've been…read moreworking with Stacey for the past 5 weeks on basic obedience training (sit, down, stay, loose leash walking, toy play, etc.) for our 8-month old German Shepherd / Belgian Malinois / Husky mix. Before meeting Stacey, I was stitching together lessons I found online and in books and was always unsure if I was training the behavior correctly. What I found enormously helpful was having Stacey critique my technique in real-time when training my dog, which is something you simply can't get from watching Youtube videos. She really helped me understand some of the nuances around positive, rewards-based training that I was missing such as timing, how to deliver the reward, how to avoid simply luring your dog, and most importantly, the power of rewarding your dog when they offer default good behavior. Our dog improved by leaps and bounds over the 5 weeks we worked together. I definitely feel much more confident training my dog after my sessions with Stacey. For those concerned about COVID, all of our sessions were outdoors (either in a driveway or public park) with everyone wearing masks the entire time.

Also I really appreciate the way she works with the people in the class, helping them to have fun with their dogs while also being disciplined. In fact, this discipline is one of the characteristics that I most appreciate about Stacey. She used a 100% positive reinforcement training approach that I personally really appreciate. At the same time, she helped me understand the discipline that I needed to apply in my training. That is positive reinforcement is fantastic, but consistency is incredibly important to make sure our dog was learning. One of things I loved most about Stacey's approach was the balance between talking about behavior and actually working with the dogs. We were really able to move quickly and cover a ton of material in every session. Not only was my dog tired after each session, but so was I; as we had gone through so many different items. At the same time, she took the time to explain everything with an incredible depth of knowledge. I've worked with over a dozen dog trainers with my last 2 dogs and in general most of these have been excellent. Even among this amazing group of people I've worked with over the years, Stacey is the best I've seen!
