This store has quadrupled (or more) in size since my last visit a few years back. It is now a full fledged specialty grocery with fresh vegetables, cheeses, ice cream, of course all milk and dairy products, canned (jars) items such as relishes and jellies and pickled vegetables. There is also a significant section of "home remedies" from turmeric/ginger tonic to elderberry syrup in local honey, and various vinegars or juices. It is a fun place to visit and I could see this being a main grocery store for those who live nearby. It's worth the 30 minute drive for us, plus some nice countryside to see along the way. The staff is very helpful. The store is now much larger, clean and organized and well kept. read more

UPDATE NOVEMBER 15, 2025 I took a small family trip to Happy Cow Creamery with my oldest niece, my niece's daughter and her boyfriend and their two boys. The first family trip to Happy Cow was in 2022, and my oldest grandson/grand nephew was 14 months. The cost of a tour is $8 per person with a child's age to pay starting at 4 yrs. Our tour was at 9:30am, with another group of 16 people that didn't show up, so we had the wagon ride to ourselves except for one other passenger. Ms. Susie is very friendly and knowledgeable about the history of Happy Cow Creamery, and you are given the opportunity to ask questions about what you're told as well as any other questions you might have. Ms. Susie has been with Happy Cow Creamery for quite some time, and use to live across the road from farmer Tom. I believe the young lady driving the tractor pulled wagon said that Ms. Susie had been friends with one of farmer Tom's children. On today's visit several of the cows were pregnant, and one of the cow's was about to actually give birth that morning. We thought we would get to see it, but she had moved to another location by the time we had finished our tour. Cows cannot produce any milk until after they give birth, and for the first 24 hours it's important for her baby to get that first milk. We didn't get to see the live birth, but we did get to meet all of the calves that were recently born. The samples of chocolate and white milk was very good as well as getting your choice of chocolate and vanilla ice creams. The milk is bottled right there at Happy Cow Creamery, and does need to be shaken because it's not homogenized. Happy Cow milk will separate causing the cream to rise to the top( y'all that milk is fresh!!!!). This is the reason for shaking the milk, and it tells you that on the container " Shake Well". After visiting the calves, and another look to see if the birth giving cow was out of hiding, we headed to the new and improved onsite store, that even has a drive thru for your convenience. The new store has been opened for about 2 years, and has a lot of goodies to offer. Too many variety of cheeses to name, fresh butter, jams, jellies, preserves, honey, maple syrups, fresh veggies, candies, home made sour dough bread and Happy Cow souvenirs(shirts, post cards etc.) The store was very clean and decorated for the upcoming holidays. Ms. Susie also told us that the old site store was going to be the future site for an ice cream parlor. If you have some free time, take a trip to Happy Cow Creamery. It was such a nice day for a calm, relaxing and enjoyable morning, and as usual it's always nice to spend time with FAMILY. read more

My first visit to Happy Cow Creamery since their remodel. The market has so many selections of dairy (milks, cheese, butter, ice cream, sour cream, eggs- you name it - they make it). They have jams, jellies, salsas, coffee, teas, local farm meats, candy, baked goods. It's impossible to name all of the unique items you can find there. I loaded up my cooler. Tip: they will give you free of charge a large bag of ice to keep your purchases cool for the drive home. I just enjoyed shopping, looking and learning about so many new items on the shelves. It is large, bright and clean inside. Fresh produce line large bins. The employees are so friendly and helpful. It's just a great place to visit (yes there are a lot of live "happy" cows grazing outside) but take your cooler. I brought home their amazing chocolate milk, cheese, their butter for baking, ice cream, sour cream, cream cheese, and Wilson Meats ground sausage. Their dairy is amazing if you bake. Go!! read more

Such a sweet and great local spot for family owned creamery. Fall is a great time to visit and pick out your own pumpkins with the kiddos. Since we are visiting from Florida I had to stock up on some fresh cheese and local meats. We are definitely going to stock up before we leave some more apple cider and cheese to bring home. I love this place... Where else can you find 13 year old cheddar cheese? They have every imaginable type of sauce, chutney, pickle, marinate, vinegars, salsas, or similar jar of goodness. They have jams and other sweet concoctions. Cheeses are obviously a thing here, and they have many varieties, along with milk, butter (really good butter)... etc. They also have meats (not certain how that works on a dairy farm, but hey)... They have lamb, ostrich, rabbit! Obviously they have milk, of all sorts, plus related things like cottage cheese, yogurt, sour cream... They have all sorts of snacks, breads, etc. Basically this place is like walking through a huge Charcuterie board... and to be honest, you could make a board every day for a long time before you repeated ingredients. They have vegetables that are amazing looking. I noticed carrots that are huge, really huge! It's a real farm... They sell manure. And they have real farm smells too, not something you will find at Whole Foods, huh? They even have a drive thru! Say you are looking for some milk and butter, just drive by. If you are looking for some pickled something, maybe you should go in and look around. It's not a huge place, but it's packed. It's like going back in time to sections of an old general store or produce stand. The only thing that could be better would be if they offered samples. read more

We went on the tour of the Happy Cow Creamery. There was plenty of parking. The area closest to the main road seemed to be available for overflow parking too. We met at the picnic shelter/pavilion area. Thank goodness we were under the shade! The accepted credit cards as a method of payment. We got on to the wagon after a brief introduction to the story of the original owner. We brought to the cows next to the entrance, near the parking area. We headed into the woods from there, got to go into the small building where the cows are milked by machines, and ended where we started. The tour guide stopped at various locations throughout the tour and explained the history of the Creamery and we did learn a few things about cows. Finally we got to try a small sample the milk, chocolate milk, and small cup of ice cream (either chocolate or vanilla). I am not a milk drinker, but it was very good. The vanilla ice cream was outstanding! Of course a kid asked if they could have another sample. The tour guide responded, "yes, for a dollar". I thought it was a joke... but, no, you can buy it for a dollar at their store. All and all the tour was probably less than an hour. We did enjoy the tour. It wasn't long, but the wagon meant you didn't get dirty and it was easy for the grandparents. There was minimal walking. That said, a couple kids on the tour probably would've enjoyed walking around if that was an option. It was a visual tour, you are never closer than a meter or two from the cows. The cows may not come close to the fense though. The cows were closest to people in the parking area, likely because of the shade from the tree. Be aware of the electric fence though. We've been coming to happy cow for dairy products for years. Until recently the store was a tiny little space no bigger than a good sized living room but now they have moved into their nice new location! Gone are the days of using a portable potty, now there are two handicap friendly family bathrooms right in the store! Two big refrigerator cases hold an expanded selection of cheese, milks, and meats. Three check outs make for a short waiting period and tte workers are as friendly as ever! They sell lots of wonder canned items(our latest favorites are pickled baby corn and candied jalapeños). They sells some bakery items and carry wonderful breads. We drive from Augusta to Pelzer because we love the milk from here. In July and December they also make the world's finest eggnog. read more

What a wonderful place! My daughter loves cows so we decided to come here one afternoon. We visited the pumpkin patch first and the girl working that area was so sweet and friendly. We did a few things and walked around that area. We went around and saw the cows eating and walking around the field. It's nice to get up close and personal without getting too close. Next, we went inside to their little shop. We bought a few local items. Prices aren't bad either for what it is. Great area and nice little spot to take your kids. I made the lovely drive out to Happy Cow Creamery from Greenville to find cheese curds. They're harder than you'd think to locate! They offer 3 varieties, classic, garlic dill, and pepper jack! I loved the garlic dill I selected, $6 for a big 12 oz. package. The little store was stuffed full of amazing food! In season produce like tomatoes and peaches. Refrigerators inside stacked with cheeses, milk, ice cream, jams, jellies, pickled yummy things, and desserts! Everything was very reasonably priced. They're not kidding about the happy cow thing. Pulling into the farm you see lots of cows grazing on acres of grassy fields against a blue sky, it's nice to see places like this exist in a world of worrying about animal welfare. I tried their peach ice cream and their habanero cheese both were delicious. Even got some chocolates to take home as gift. I did not get a chance to interview any of the cows so I can't personally attest to their level of joy but they all seemed pretty content to me. So darn cute! We came here by recommendation of family that lives here in South Carolina. Boy were we happy we came! You drive right by a field with cows eating and roaming when you drive in. Once you park you can get off and get very close to the cows while they eat. They're so beautiful! I had never been so close to cows. Inside the small shop is a world of items for purchase. From cheeses to sour creams, ice cream and relishes, there's SO many yummy items to choose from! We purchased a half gallon of Chocolate Milk, small tub of Cookie Dough Ice cream, Fried Okra bags, mango jalapeño jelly and Gouda Cheese. All so delicious! The staff was very friendly as well. Not exactly what I expected. What I can say is that they are missing a huge opportunity here to be a destination for families. A minimal investment could make a farm-themed playground for the kids and a viewing area for the little ones to see the cows, and maybe even some goats. And although smelly because it is a real farm, a picnic area might be in order to enjoy the cheese, ice cream, and anything else you buy from their VERY TINY store. OMG... I love places like this. When they say it's a happy cow Creamery you can literally see the cows they are right there and they seem pretty happy. Inside they have different things like chocolate milk, strawberry milk, regular milk, ice cream and cheese. They also have a bunch of different canned goods I got this fig spread and the cauliflower pickled. Both of which were really good. We also tried a couple of the cheeses the ghost pepper cheese is ridiculously hot, which should be expected, but for some reason we were dumb enough to buy it anyways. Even with the heat it was still really good. We also got the Chipotle cranberry which was not so hot and tasted really good. Happy Cow is fantastic. Their ice creams are all delicious (and they have coconut!!!!), their milk (plain, chocolate and strawberry and my absolute all time favorite when they make it - eggnog!) is amazing and their cheeses and butter makes everything taste better. The shop is small, so if it's crowded, we always go out and look at the cows (either the ones near the parking lot, which might be all of the ones pregnant - we actually got to see a calf being born once, it was totally amazing) or the ones lining up to get milked and wait until the rush calms down a bit so we can actually browse in the store. In strawberry season, they offer strawberry picking (and the strawberries are delicious - and pesticide free) and when it's asparagus season, they have some of the best asparagus I've ever tasted. Any of the produce they carry that we've tried has been so much tastier than the equivalents purchased at the grocery store, it's not even a comparison. While the Happy Cow products are sold at a lot of area stores, when possible, we always make the extra drive to go directly to the farm because it's so fun, even just for a quick trip. read more

They also have a selection of honey and jams. I visited in the warmer months and they had fresh made ice cream available as well.
