The Kahlua cupcake was SO GOOD! I mean it's a bakery so maybe I shouldn't have been surprised, but it was a perfect match with a coffee. $2.50 for a cupcake and $2 for a coffee. I would've paid $4 just for the cupcake! The inside had a Kahlua filling that really hit the spot. The breakfast croissant has nice thick bacon with egg and cheese. It would've been a 5 star quick breakfast stop if the croissant hadn't gotten a little soggy being reheated. The burritos and croissants are premade and refrigerated, which I'm not complaining about at all. Just know that the pastry won't stay crisp. Still tastes great for a very fair price. I was very pleasantly surprised by how good the clam chowder was. We got the large size (I think it was, like, $7-something) and it was enough for two of us to share. Nice and hot and hot the spot. I'd definitely stop here again.

Leaving with a bad taste in my mouth from the Star Bakery just a week ago, I was dying for a decent…read morebreakfast. It was time to put Sunflower Sweets to the test. Walking in I already liked the vibe, it was delightfully welcoming. Another order at the counter and pay before getting your food. It was obvious though unlike The Star who seats you with a menu, then tells you to order at the "kiosk" when ready. Again, paying before food and service received equals no tip for food or service. Ordered the Eggs Benedict and an Apple Pie ish baked good. Server didn't even know what it was called. It was dished up in a togo container, even though I was dining in. For the eggs Bene, I asked if the hollandaise was house made before finding a table, she replied with, "everything is homemade", good answer. Seated at my table I attempted to eat said Apple Pie ish baked good. It was so hard I was unable to get a fork through the crust. Had to ask to have it put on a plate and warmed up. Once that happened, it was edible. Very good actually, just go a tad thinner on the outer edge crust and it would have been near perfect. Why it was not served hot and on a plate in the first place, I don't know. As I enjoyed my coffee, I had a flash back of the dumpster fire of a breakfast at The Star Bakery just 1 week prior and their god awful attempt at a cup of coffee. This coffee was however delicious and they brought me cream and sugar in case I wanted some. Waiting only 5 minutes, breakfast was served. Presentation was spot on, dash of paprika, micro greens, and an overall great appearance. Homemade bread, a thick slab of ham, not the thin Canadian crap, perfectly poached egg, this had all the landmarks of a delicious breakfast. I devoured the whole thing, it was in fact delicious. Room for improvement on the hollandaise, just a tad to much on the lemon juice, ease up on that, a hint of cayenne, and it would have been near perfection. Highly recommend this place. 3 stars is good in my book. They could easily pull 4 stars with some easy tweaks. Little on the service, not much on the food. Know what your baked items are called, serve them edible and not in a togo box. Make those hollandaise adjustments and boom, easy 4 stars. They are easy front runners in Madison county though with most other breakfast / bakery joints 1-2 stars.

A fellow rider traveling North on the GDMBR mentioned a Pizza place at the bottom of the hill. I felt like he was pulling my leg as we were in the middle of the wilderness. Sure enough, I got to the bottom of the mountain and found the pizza flags flapping in the breeze. I parked my bike at the front door and made my way into The Restaurant and found a Firetruck in the lobby. I made my way into the main building and the Owner greeted me stating it was his first week being open. People who know me understand that Pizza is my favorite food group...a bit of a pizza snob. I like thin crust and on the crispy side of done. I was service two slices that were previously frozen and they were in my top five slices ever eaten. I ordered a whole pie and shared it with Marjolein, a fellow GDMBR rider from Virginia. I would have to rank the whole pie as a tie for best pizza. It was cooked perfectly and the owner was so nice and shared his testimony with me. Donnie, I should have taken your advice and finished the ride, but I was truly hurt by the four crashes on the steepest mountain of the route. I pray your Pizzaria/Restaurant is more than successful! With your home made dough and precision cooking, I cannot imagine anything but success. I will see you June 2026 when I restart from your restaurant the GDMBR. God Bless You Donnie Speer!

Seeing this creative masterpiece, my curiosity got the best of me to stop by and see what it was all about. Thats when I discovered that it was a food truck! Naturally, I wanted to try the pizza coming out of this rig. Plus I wanted to help the local businesses. I asked for a menu to find out that there wasn't one. The owner, Donnie Speer (he introduced himself to me), who was very personable, then told me that he can make any pizza I want upon my request. He did suggest I try the "Montana Hippie" which has a bunch of veggies and pepperoni. I ordered that plus a "Meat Lovers" pizza. Let me tell you here that his prices are very reasonable! In Colorado, where I'm from, would've had to pay nearly twice for such a pizza! Wow! I was blown away by the wood-fired pizza that Donnie and team were cranking out of this pizza fire engine! They had generous toppings and cheese! I can tell you that hands-down this food truck has the BEST pizza I've eaten so far in Montana! Having lived in NYC for many years and frequenting the best pizza parlors in Chicago as well, this guy and his food truck can definitely rub shoulders with pizza in NYC and Chicago! You got to give this place a try! You just have to hunt-down where he might be on a given day. For that purpose, I've listed below his contact information. If you go on Facebook and search 'Donnie Speer', you'll be able to fine where his food truck will be. The Big Hole Pizza Company Donnie Speer (406) 491-3725
