If I could give them zero stars, I would. We came to Headframe Spirits excited for the haunted trolley ride and left thoroughly disappointed--thanks to the abysmal service. We sat for 15 minutes while staff served everyone around us, including half a dozen groups who arrived after we did. The table next to us even got a second round before we received our first drink. When my wife politely asked at the bar if she could order directly, she was told to "sit down and we'll get to you." That would've been laughable if it weren't so infuriating. We finally got our drinks just in time to board the trolley--last, of course, because we were still waiting while others breezed through. Turns out, most of those served ahead of us were locals. Based on other reviews, this isn't an isolated incident--it's a pattern. The drinks? Fine. But nothing special. We had far better cocktails and actual customer service just down the street at 51 Below Speakeasy, tucked beneath The Miners Hotel in Uptown Butte. Full bar, great vibe, and staff who treat you like a guest--not an inconvenience. Headframe Spirits may have a name rooted in Butte's mining heritage, but their hospitality is stuck in the shaft. Only visited during COVID, so it's challenging to review Headframe Spirits. The inside looks fantastic with a gorgeous large wooden bar and detailed woodwork. I mean, the place really looks great, inside and out. While stopping in to purchase a bottle (Kelley Irish Whiskey), hand sanitizer, and merchandise, the staff was super friendly and allowed us to sample before purchasing. I also love how integrated HeadFrame is with the history of Butte. Regrettably, I took away one star simply because I wasn't super impressed with the booze. However, I guarantee I'd return to Headframe if ever in Butte again. read more

I really liked this place. It's located in a charming historic area in downtown Butte, and they were pretty knowledgeable about their spirits. They gave us a good rundown of all of their offerings and we ordered a flight of their whiskies. Because they are a distillery and not a bar with a liquor license, there is a pretty strict limit on what you're allowed to taste - 4 things only. I ended up walking away with a bottle of their Neversweat Bourbon, which is an easy drinker, and their Acquisition X, a whiskey produced in Canada but aged in some wine barrels that gave it an interesting and slightly more complex flavor. We were on a schedule to get elsewhere, otherwise I would have stopped here longer - cute spot! I'm not much of a cocktail girl, but it looked like they had some great cocktail options, too, including basil spiked lemonade and a combination of their bourbon cream liquor with root beer. Was it the best bourbon I've ever had? No, but it was respectable for sure! read more

So disappointed! We have be visiting and purchasing spirits from Headframe for at least 5 years. One summer we went 6 times just to stock up on limited edition "pride" Orphan Girl for gifts. Stopped today and WOW. The female "hostess" looked and treated me like I was a leper. They have NO parking for RVs so we parked 2 blocks away and I walked . I had shorts and Ugg's on and just wanted to run in and get an orphan girl and to try (by purchasing) the bourbon. Then my wife would go and buy another 2. I got in the RV and said I bought our last two bottles! They can be rude and disrespectful they do not need my $ or support. One of MANY snide remarks over less than 7 minutes was...me-"can I pay for that with my cell phone?" .... she responded..."you could if you had one" I was confused, as I was holding my phone. I said "my iPhone, may I pay with that?" She looked at me up and down and said " "if you had a phone that can do that and if you had money " ....I was flabbergasted. I did pay with my iPhone 11pro got my items and seriously doubt I will ever darken those doors again! Shame on you Headframe! read more

I haven't had the pleasure of visiting many distilleries, so this place seemed interesting from the beginning. Montana's very dated and strange liquor laws force them to make an arms-length distinction that they are a "tasting room" and not a bar. Not their fault, but really too bad because it forces them to limit each patron to two cocktails PER DAY and you can only purchase up to two bottles to take home per day as well. Not a great arrangement for someone from out of town who may want to take their product home as gifts. Getting off my rant about Montana law, the "tasting room" is perfectly set up. They have an original 100-year-old back bar from a long-lost bar in Meaderville that is on loan from the mining museum according to the bartender. They make vodka, gin, bourbon, blended whisky and a bourbon cream. All of it is distilled right there on site. In fact, you can see right into the distillery itself through large picture windows directly behind you. Headframe has a wide variety of craft cocktails to choose from. I visited with my grandma (how cool is that? drinking with grandma ;) ) She had an orange creamsicle made with their vodka. Sure enough, it tasted just like that frozen summer treat. I opted for the hibiscus lemonade. Delicious! Just what I needed on one of the hottest days of the summer. It was even garnished with a fresh hibiscus flower. Everything they use is fresh. Next to the register are vases with all of their herbs. Next, I selected the basil lemonade. It was not nearly as good as the first choice, but still worth the order. Grandma had a rootbeer float cocktail made with their bourbon cream. It was delicious and eerily authentic. Service was great and price was amazing ($5 for a craft cocktail in a distillery!). I love this place! The people are nice, the atmosphere is very old school saloon, and the vintage bar is drool worthy. Best of all of course is the spirits! The cream bourbon is smooth and silky. It is fantastic so many ways... but that isn't the only thing here that is worth trying. I enjoyed the vodka in both a basil lemonade and a dirty Shirley (personal favorite) and while I am not a whiskey fan, they have one that is aged in Merlot wine barrels that is smooth and has a really nice after taste (if you are a wine drinker) Plan on two trips so you can try everything. You won't be disappointed. read more

What a wonderful find! We were seeking shelter from a pending storm and stumbled upon this gem of a place. It's been over 2 months since we've been here, but I can not get this place out of mind or off my palate. The wife and I had 4 drinks (max of 2 per person, per day - state law?) We tried the - Gin Fizz - Amazing! One of the best drinks I've had in years. So well balanced... Lavender Lemondrop - So good, I can still taste it. Bourbon & Ginger - I'm sitting here shaking my head at how good this drink was. (Glad I get 2 drinks because will not be able to choose between the fizz and this). Bloody Mar - Good classic - suggest you look at the pictures. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. Even the locals at the bar made this experience great, as they too heard we were visiting and gave us more suggestions. If there was any negative to this place whatsoever it would be the state-imposed 2-drink maximum allowed for "tasting". You can't really hold that against Homestead though! I've heard great things about this place since I've been in Butte. I finally had to give it a try. Honestly, I wasn't very impressed with their Whiskey Sour. I believe it was the sweet and sour that I didn't like. The Dirty Girl is a good drink if you like sweet, creamy drinks. I believe that next time I visit I'll try their Whiskey neat without anything else to cloud my judgement on their product. Have had nothing but great experiences at Headframe Spirits; the staff is fantastic, the tasting room has the perfect (historical) ambiance, and the hooch selection is some of the best around. I've also appreciated the variety of mixed drink recipes. The majority of the liquor is distilled in-house, so if you are interested in local products, but wanting a change from the brewery scene, I'd certainly recommend stopping in. Being a western Oregon girl, I can't turn a corner without finding a craft brewery, distillery, or winery. With that in mind, it makes the high regard I hold Headframe Spirits in all the more impressive. The bar (such as it is, given Montana's tight alcohol laws) is charming and cozy. The mixed drinks are original, creative, and just amazing. 2 drink max, so savor those babies! This is a can't-miss spot when visiting Butte. My favorite place for a drink- anywhere. read more

The first time I went into Headframe Spirits was amazing and based on this experience I chose to go back. However my second experience was horrible. I chose to take my brother there and meet another family member because I loved the atmosphere and the staff was friendly and helpful. I talked up the experience to my family but once we all got there, Headframe Spirits proved me a liar. The service was terrible and the drinks were awful too. We sat at a table near the restroom and no one came to our table which they had done during my first visit. The business had about 25 customers and there were 3 people working. My brother and I were waiting for our cousin so we didn't mind waiting at the table for a little while. We ended up waiting about 30 minutes total before heading up to the bar were we waited for another 15 minutes to get a drink. We should have left but I thought that maybe our experience would get better. I tried the Destroying Angel because I liked the name and I thought it was cool that it was a clear whiskey, it tasted awful, I couldn't even drink it nor could the people I was with. My brother order a gin martini and it tasted exactly like the clear whiskey I had tried, needless to say his drink went unfinished just like mine. I am not sure if this was just a bad batch or something was mixed up either behind the bar or in the distillery, but I will not be returning to Headframes. I am sad to say that this could be gem in the Mining City was very disappointing. read more

I don't like hard liquor, except for the spirits that come from Headframe. The Neversweat Bourbon Whiskey is my favorite, it can be enjoyed in just about anything you put it into. I recommend serving as an 'old fashioned'. You can also buy bottles of it for a very reasonable price at the distillery, much better than if you look to pick it up at the local liquor store. read more

Am I in Brooklyn? Very hipster-esque place. Great tasting room where you can sample drinks either at the bar or at one of their tables. They technically don't have a liquor license, hence, the 2 drinks per day and 2 bottles per day per person limit. We went on a Saturday, late afternoon when they had a 3-piece live band playing. Really really enjoyed myself here. The atmosphere is so friendly and laid back. A woman even brought her dog in with her. Everyone was nice. The drinks tasted awesome. I even bought myself a few bottles and the waitress/bartender wrote down all the recipes I liked. They went above and beyond to make sure my family and I enjoyed our time in there.
