If you don't want to spend much you can go on the 2p machines, if you want to spend more there's more expensive machine available too. Just take it for what it is, if you want high end entertainment then go elsewhere - it is an amusement arcade after all!

The Quasar center itself is on the 2nd floor, up a corkscrew of stairs, and if you're waiting they'll get you a cup of water or tea in most cases, whilst you're waiting for the game being played to be concluded, and they'll even stick on some music of your choice to listen to whilst you're fragging each other, or even put one of your own mix CD's on, which is always a hoot, (some friends and myself once played a game listening to the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie soundtrack). The arcade machines are fairly well spaced out, and offer a great variety, and also include the good old 2p machines, and being near to the High Street itself and Adventure Island, you could easily make a night out just up this endof the seafront strip alone.

I was really happy to see at last after nearly 25 years the building was restored and opened back up, all be it as a smaller venue. The function suite can house a few hundred people, and is available for rent for weddings, meeting and conferences etc. I looks like except for the main entry and gallery that the Kursaal as a whole has started to be in disrepair. The ammusements and bowling is about all that is left.

It's not too wide, there's a few seats along the way. There's nothing along the way, you just walk. cafes, stalls and a venue are all at the very end of the pier. I'm more used to piers that gave rides and arcade on the pier itself. But this is really nice too. No fishing going on from this pier. Someone told me you can see seals from the pier, but I didn't see any myself.

I did the walk simply because the sights, sounds, and smells really brought back memories of my childhood. Plus I wasn't in a rush to get anywhere. The Pier is located right in between adventure Island. It's pretty hard to miss considering it's quite massive and usually attracts the eyes of many tourists. I didn't actually see the waking option until the day of. I saw the train from a distance and my curiosity peeked. I wasn't even sure where the train was going but it was on a bridge heading somewhere. It's a beautiful experience and often times it's the locals that's venture out more than tourists. At the end, there's a few restaurants that serve fish and chips, coffee shops, washrooms and a mini museum.

This place is quieter as mentioned above, but this also works to it's favour, meaning you can actually hear all the bleeps and whoops from the machine you're at, and the establishment doesn't blast heavy metal music at you at 10,000dB either, which is refreshing. The only drawback is if you're coming from the Southend Town-Centre end, it will take you a few minutes walk to get there, but you've got a decent view of the seafront in the meantime, and it's not realy that much long of a walk. The staff also walk around to make sure everything's fine, and they'll ask you if you're enjoying yourself, and will sometimes even chill with you and yap about whatever for a few minutes before continuing their duties, which is refreshing and reassuring.

Whilst not having much for kids, there is a great time to be had, and the atmosphere is always very calm and quiet, the lighting adds to the mood, and it's a great place for a quite night out to have a few pints with your friends.
