Admit it. You do not know much about Hainanese food except for its world-famous chicken rice which we all know is Singapore's most well-loved dish. But there is so much more to this cuisine than the chicken rice, which is why I decided to go on a Hainanese quest. Luckily there was one near my house, perhaps the only that can be found in the south, Happi Hen. Situated on a leafy, rustic corner in Paranaque with an ambience that takes you to Singapore, this restaurant has been giving southern diners another reason not to leave their city. I first ordered their lechon Macau which was delicious and gooey but still maintained a level of crisp that pleased even the most discerning eater (in this case it was my sister). I then proceeded to their chicken rice. The chicken is served glistening with oil on its skin and meat. On the side, were servings of minced garlic and scallions best smeared all over a bowl of white rice. All in all, it's a good place for a meal. I've been here several times and I never get tired of their food. read more
