We originally found Emily when my work converted to a hybrid schedule and we needed someone to come a few times during those days to let our puppy Mango out of her crate to get some play time, potty, and get fed. Mango seemed very comfortable around Emily, and she even sent us a picture while she was over watching her. We also discovered that Emily does daycare during our conversations with her, and have since tried that route once. It has worked out well knowing that Mango has someone to keep an eye on her throughout the day while we're gone, and not just barking up a storm while locked in her crate all day. I am so happy I found Happi Dogs! I was going on a 2-week trip, and I couldn't bear to board my pup at the larger facilities where, while he was cared for, he had seemed lonely. I thought my pup would be happier in a home environment. Emily and I communicated via email and her website. She asked thorough questions to make sure that my pup would be a good fit, and we set up a meet-and-greet session in my backyard. It was love at first sight for my pup; he was completely smitten with Emily. We decided to do a trial boarding to see how my pup would get along with her dog at home. After a few years of boarding our Chocolate Lab and Pug together at a local Richmond veterinarian, they discontinued boarding with no explanation. This left us in a bit of a pinch as we needed someone to be available for boarding our dogs together and giving them enough attention that they would not come back home traumatized. After a search here on Yelp, I found Emily and based on her initial reviews, decided to give her a chance. From the beginning, Emily was very engaged with interest. She was very communicative about what she offered, prices, and parameters of being able to take in our dogs while we were out of town. In advance of boarding our dogs with Emily, she requested a meet-and-greet of us and the dogs at our house, a free consultation, whereas she could get a good feeling for the personalities of the animals in their own environment and also to know us better. I found this to be of good significance so she knew what she was getting herself into, so to speak. After our meet-and-greet, Emily had requested us bring the dogs for an overnight at her home, at boarding rates, and the next day we discussed the outcome of how they settled in. We have since boarded our dogs with Emily on 2 occasions of approximately 1.5 week timespans and will do so ahead in the future. The simple fact that the dogs are given lots of attention, not kept in cages in a noisy vet office and are allowed to be themselves and occasionally interact with others at her house is the main reason why they come home 'Happi' as the business name implies. I would highly recommend Emily over a corporate boarding chain or veterinary office or any other larger business simply for the quality of care, the frequent check-ins during our time away, and our dogs coming home stress-free and relaxed. Emily was super accommodating. My friend that was supposed to dog-sit from Saturday 8 AM until Sunday evening. On Friday at 4pm I texted my friend to confirm. I didn't get a response so I texted again at 7pm and called at 11pm, still no response. Not sure if my friend completely forgot or what, but I began to panic, afraid that I wouldn't find a replacement last minute. I called a bunch of places on Yelp, but everyone was either asleep/closed or it was too last minute. This last December '22 Emily truly went above and beyond the call when Ronnie (thanks to being a sensitive, anxiety-prone lil' dude + a rocker earthquake that triggered our motion sensor and the house alarm in the middle of the night) started to experience a urinary tract blockage and stopped using his litter box altogether. After a few house visits where we hoped he would push it out on his own/kept looking to see if he was urinating in other areas of the house - Emily came over on CHRISTMAS Day and took him over to PETS Referal Center on University Ave in Berkeley where she then waited an hour for them to do intake, examine him and then give her the clearance to go home. Thankfully they were prompt in unblocking and treating our sweet Ronnie. A few hours later she came back to pick him up and bring him home where she spent more time getting him settled before she left. Our family was in Singapore at the time visiting my husband's family and coordinating all of this across a big timezone difference was heartwrenching and stressful! Emily was fantastic throughout the whole thing! She was quick to respond when we knew Ronnie was in trouble and patient to make sure he got the care he needed at every step. In the following days she checked in daily to assure us he was taking his meds and using his litterbox again. I can not recommend Emily and Happi Dogs enough.
