The coaches are amazing and it's never too challenging they give you tips for improving skills and it's overall a good experience

I am not qualified to write this review as I have never taken a class here, or any Hapkido class. This is simply my review of my inquiry experience. I expressed my interest to try a free class over email, as I think that it might be smart to build self-defense skills as an individual woman going through 2025 in America. A staff member replied shortly after I submitted an enquiry. Unfortunately, I could not make it to the class due to schedule conflicts. I am also not sure why his emails keep getting flagged/marked down as spam in my inbox. read more

I've been coming here for Muay Thai since 2020. The facilities are clean, the instructors are excellent and really care about the students, and it's a wonderful community. I highly recommend checking out this gym, and they also have fundamental classes for beginners. Great place to go whether you just want a great workout or go deeper in learning about martial arts. read more

Simply the best place to learn martial arts for kids - the instructors are all high ranking black belts and many are really good with kids. Since there are several great instructors, I recommend you come on different days and observe their different styles. I can't say how this is for adults but I'm really tempted to try it myself. read more

This place is just GREAT!!! The instructors gauge each individuals' abilities and challenges them based on what they can do... My son (Just turned 8) and I have been taking classes there for about 2 1/2 years and we just can't get enough. We try to go atleast 4 time s week and feel awesome when the class is over.... What a rush and workout. Great family atmosphere. They are quite welcoming and friendly and make you feel right at home... The studio is very clean and in fact, this might seem odd, but Mr. M makes sure that the environment stays pine-sol fresh. Talk about a sensitive nose... Not only is he great with kids, he can smell dirt a mile away. This is one of the only martial arts school around that allows parent and kid(s) take classes together. My son and I are looking forward to getting our black belts together... (Providing I can keep my not so young body in one piece) Each instructor has a different personality. Mr. V pushes you to bring your very best and pushes you hard because he cares. He will pick out your flaws and help you reach perfect form... technically speaking, Mr. V knows his martial arts. When he's not teaching... he's working out himself. He leads by setting a great example. His classes are always the hardest, but that is what you pay for and boy does he deliver!!! Mr. Jason is motivated to have you get the most out of your classes. He takes the time to work with you privately should you need it. He is always quick to show you his ability to get airborne and show you with his dance like skills what kicks are suppose to look like. Mr. M... What can we say. He is the perfect Head Instructor. If it were not for his attention to each students needs and progress the classes and the learning environment would be quite chaotic. My son's(4 yr. old and 8 yr. old) respect him like you would not believe. Mr. M adds the humanistic element in this technical martial arts form. He has spent a lot of time with my kids and teaching them life skills. My son love Mr. M's Blue man suit... Imagine giant robot coming after you and you get to wack, punch, kick and do whatever you can to knock him down... Master Kang... What can we say. He is the Yoda of Hapkido. His sage like teachings encompass real life moves and techniques that resemble big screen action. He is well versed in Hapkido and is even known to roll with the kids and work with them on their BJJ pins and submissions. He sets the tone for the entire school and has done a great job in bringning in the right people for the right positions. The support cast at the school are always quick with assistance and always a pleasure to deal with. This school is the complete package. If it were not, we would not have refered people to this school... (18 people and counting) GREAT FAMILY PLACE!!! read more

I love Hapkido USA. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the spacious, airy studio. The second floor location means there are lots of windows and all the fresh air and sunlight you could want, but without the people watching you from the street. The second thing is the high quality of the instructors. At another studio we tried they provided me with professional marketing materials that appealed to me as a parent, but once you got past the face of the studio, the actual instructors appeared to have very little training or ability to work with kids. At Hapkido USA, all of the instructors are skilled in bringing out the best in the kids while maintaining a positive and playful attitude. In fact, Mr. M could probably fill in for Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, and we have learned a lot. The best part for me though is that Hapkido USA offers simultaneous adult and child classes, so instead of sitting there wishing I had time to work out myself; I am getting in shape, setiing a good example, learning self defense, and having a great shared experience with my kids. Last, Hapkido USA is very reasonable priced, and they provide the gear. At other places paretns are regularly asked to purchase new gear, pay tournament fees, etc. etc. At Hapkido USA, they never nickle and dime you. The focus is clearly on helping you succeed. read more

I stopped training here around early spring 2013 (after training for about a year and a half). I went over and trained at another MMA gym "El Nino" afterwards. After finishing a year there, I have something to compare to. The instructors here at Hapkido USA are AMAZING. I trained both Muay Thai under Jamel and BJJ under Matheus. They improved my knowledge of their craft and worked me out fairly well. The 2 of 5 star rating comes from billing and customer service issues. -They require a 60-day advance notice of you putting a hold on your account (even if you're injured) -They require that you give them written notice of canceling or pausing your account. hand-written, they have no company email address. -The manager of the location mistakenly charged my account TWICE on several occasions, even after I canceled it (once when I paused my account because I was injured, another when I wanted to terminate our business relationship). -^^^ Instead of reimbursing me for the incorrect billing of mishap #2, Gino (manager) reimbursed me with a month of training that I didn't want. -After training at El Nino MMA, I found out that I was ripped off for my monthly bill at this Hapkido location ($165 for 4 classes of BJJ and Muay Thai a month @ their location vs. $190 per month @ El Nino for unlimited classes). Even their local competitor World Team USA charged only $155 a month for unlimited classes. I had another friend experience this billing issue. It makes me feel like the business operators just wanted my money. If they had better customer service, I'd go back there to train since they're so close to my house and they give HIGH QUALITY lessons. I can't give feedback on the appeal of this business to kids. It looks like they always have fun whenever they train. read more

Love this school!! I moved my daughter here from another martial arts school and am so happy I made the switch. Teachers are friendly and encouraging. They help students learn to follow directions and pay attention, in addition to perfecting their martial arts skills. And perhaps the best part is that adults and children can take classes together. My husband takes classes with my daughter. It is a great way to get exercise and be with your family at the same time. I can't wait for my younger children to get old enough to join. I'll sign myself up too! read more

The best martial arts institute ever! Skilled instructors and very complete curriculum ranging from Hapkido to Taekwondo and Brazilian Jiujitsu. read more

The instructors here are mentors to the younger students, and patient masters to the older students. They do incredible work developing young men and women -- teaching respect, discipline, and ways to find inner strength -- all foundations for higher self esteem. Mr. "Marco" is a true saint. Before signing up anywhere else, I urge you to come in and observe classes, whether they be for you or your kids. read more

This place is so wonderful. We were referred by a friend and my kids just love it here. They have fun, kind, and rigorous teachers. They have found a balance of discipline and playfulness that gives kids the confidence and motivation they need to want to continue. Mr. M, Mr. B, and Mr. Jason are great with kids. I would recommend this studio to anyone who's looking for marital arts for their kids. read more

By far, the best place for martial art in SF in my opinion. My son has been to several other places as he's a big fan of martial arts but no other place has offered him the real care and attention that he very much needed but Hapkido USA. All the instructors are genuinely great people and highly skilled to teach both adults and kids. I am truly thankful for finding this awesome place for my son. read more

The teachers are great. But there are some younger siblings who are not in class being dropped off together with their older brother, parents no where in sight at least 25 min before class. These kids horse around loudly, play with props and distract the students in class. The teachers got no time to babysit them while teaching. read more

Excellent instructors. Patient and great atmosphere. The Master of the studio engaged the students and takes an active part in their success unlike other competitors around the area. read more

Super school and super staff!!! My son has been attending Hapkido USA for 5 years now. Over that time I have seen his self confidence and focus improve immensely. Mr. M is incredibly gifted working with the kids. Mr. V and Mr. Jason also help keep the kids focused and learning while having a great time! The main studio is bright and spacious and the classes are really fun for the kids. I had visited many of the studios in the neighborhood before deciding on this school and am super pleased with my choice (and so is my son) ! read more

What a great place!! My son and I have been attending classes for almost a year. I have seen other martial arts studios and I must say that this is by far the best. From the facilities to the wonderful staff, everything has exceeded our expectations. Master Kang is truly a wonderful, soft spoken man who teaches this wonderful art with real life applications. This is a man who knows all there is to know about Hapkido. Mister M. is a great head instructor who excels in motivating young children and brings out their best. He is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Mister V. teaches technical perfection and is sure to give you a workout. Very "old-school", but very cool. Mister Jason teaches great technique with kindness and compassion. He is very good with the kids and is always there is help you out personally . I have seen my seven year old son grow as a person and a martial artist. I could not thank this school enough and I highly recommend it. read more

Before enrolling my oldest child at Hapkido USA, I spent a good deal of time watching videos of various forms Martial Arts on Youtube as part of my research. Disclaimer: I'm no expert but I sure love Kung Fu theater! In my humble opinion, Hapkido (not the same as Aikido) encompasses the best features of Taekwondo (strikes and kicks) and Aikido/Judo (throws and joint locks) into one unifying style. I decided on Hapkido USA after watching one of the videos (link is on their website) on students taking the black belt test (including tests on weapons!!). It totally blew me away. The funny thing is, after watching my son attending his class ( as well as watching other classes before and after), I decided to join myself. Fast forward a year later, I am still enjoying every bit of it, if not more. ** Attention MMA fans: there is now an intro Ju-Jitus class on every Saturday. It's open to all Hapkido students. There is now also a Nunchuck class as well!! **** The instructors are wonderful in a sense that they are very knowledgeable and know how teach each student according to their levels. Master Kang is great! I would prey for the poor soul that tries to mug him on the street. I mean, he's been practicing Hapkido before I was even born. Mr. Jason is cool cat that injects humor with a splash of fun into every class. Mr. B and Mr. Allen are also very good but they've since stationed themselves at another location, spreading the good Hapkido knowledge. The class atmosphere is very relaxing and the kids seem to really enjoy themselves. It's great for families and I do see lots of families taking classes together. Oh, forgot to mentioned the Halloween party, the kids love that. We had a haunted house theme this year. Totally awesome. If you're an adult and just want to learn some moves and have a good workout. The 8pm nightly class might better suit your needs. It's for adults only and it's a longer class. Did I mention you'll get a good workout? If you plan to check out the school ( and I highly recommend it), please do keep a few things in mind. Take an introductory class and see what the classes are like. Work out a schedule where you can attend the class consistently. And on the days you don't have classes, practice what you've learn the day before (or practice with your kids). It helps to re-enforce the lessons and make learning that much more fun and enjoyable. ***I am a student of Hapkido USA and I approve of this message*** read more

I highly recommend the Filipino Martial Arts class taught by Guro Alvin. He has a wealth of experience. From what I understand he's been training in both Hapkido and Filipino Martial Arts for a long time, which is pretty cool! The style he does encompasses sticks, swords, knives, and empty hands. The demo I watched them do on their first day was pretty awesome, I think they used live steel. Very fast, the style reminds of a Soul Caliber video game. read more

Our 4.5 year old has been in the Little Dragons class with Mr. Jason. Mr. Jason is amazing!!! Patient yet firm and always with a smile on his face. Our son has some gross motor challenges and this class has been amazing for his coordination. He loves it! I highly recommend this class for 3-5 year olds (and the older kids classes look great too) read more

The instructors here are great, very friendly, and motivative. Keep up the good work. The studio is clean, spacious and with open windows, it feel very refreshing. My son at 1st did not want to go to any martial arts school, but after his 1st lesson at Hapkido USA, he was very interested and asked when can he go again. read more

Very friendly staff. I take my daughter here. The head teacher is called Mr. M, and he gets along with kids. They teach a Korean Martial Arts called Hapkido. The master instructor is Master Kan. I think he is a 6th degree blackbelt. The facility is probably not the greatest as they have an upstairs and downstairs area. The downstairs typically is really cold. read more

My son takes classes from Mr. B. Originally reluctant to start, he loved it after the very first class. Mr. B is patient and firm, teaching my son how to be strong and in control of himself. It's an extremely positive environment. I'm considering taking classes myself. read more

Before coming to Hapkido USA we tried two other martial arts studios,by far Hapkido USA was the best! My son has attended classes here for 4 years now. Master Kang and Mr. Marco Magsaysay(Mr. M) chief instuctor are great! You can tell they are very devoted and passionate about teaching. They have taught my son dicipline, respect and self esteem that has carried through into his family and school life which we feel is a big part of the wonderful son, friend and student he is today. We highly reccomend Hapkido USA !!!! read more
