The highlight was dining at Michelin-stared Ocean. However, the other on-site restaurants are wonderful as well. Vila Vita is a true resort in that you don't really need to leave the premises during your stay. Not only do they have a variety of high end dining options (make reservations in advance!) but they have three pools, a private beach, a mini golf course, tennis, a spa and more. One of the coolest things about staying at Vila Vita is it never felt crowded. In fact, we assumed it wasn't a busy season for the resort, just due to a lack of guests walking around but the staff informed us they were at 95% capacity! Point being, it feels exclusive and there are never crowds. There are paths to walk the grounds and explore. During an exploration we discovered Vila Vita employs Vito, a hawk, who patrols the premises to keep seagulls and other birds from annoying guests and stealing food. Beach access is also very cool, it's a steep, adventurous climb down but once you arrive at the secluded beach area, the views and experience are worth the trip.

The grounds are perfectly maintained, hilly, and sprawling with multiple pools and ocean vistas - each with their own vibe (family, adults, etc.) - restaurants, and scenic walks, including along the oceanside cliffs. Service was spectacular: exceedingly professional and attentive, but also friendly and caring - and patient for a group with 7 adults and 4 kids. Facilities are plentiful, from tennis to golf to the pools to a kids camp to bars to the beach (with its chilly, but rejuvenating May surf). If you have an opportunity to visit, please do so as you won't regret it!

They have a Michelin 2 star restaurant, so expect to see suits and gowns if you do decide to dine there. (as a note--they have a discounted dinner rate for hotel customers, so definitely check it out!) We were greeted with a glass of champagne, and headed to our beautiful room. It had a gorgeous bathroom complete with a large hot tub. The bedroom doors opened onto a spacious private patio with a table, chairs, and two lounge areas. The view of the beach was breathtaking. The amenities were incredible--turndown service, TV with access to Netflix and youtube, Molton Brown toiletries. The buffet and made to order breakfast in the morning was superb and included with our package. The omelettes were divine, as were the multigrain croissants. Don't miss the mimosa bar--complete with various types of juice, ranging from beet/pear to mixed berry. Everything tasted so fresh! We also received phenomenal service during our breakfast, which we enjoyed on breakfast patio, with a beautiful view of the property and beach. Cannot wait to return and hopefully spend more time there!!

There is no facility to make tea in the room, which was peculiar for a five star hotel. What surprised us more was the front desk.We asked for a plate and an ashtray (for the balcony) and the reception promptly forgot. Asking them hours later they admitted to this and sent us a ramekin (good enough), but no plate or explanation. When asking the next day for the plate we were told they would charge us for an empty plate. They also suggested that we should ask the dinner service, which we did and they directed us to the reception. It was a very singular experience at a supposedly five star hotel. The ingredients used for the food are very good, but many of the dishes are far too overcooked. This is especially a problem for fish like tuna which were rendered inedible. More troubling yet, there was a chilli for dinner on the 25 of December, the leftovers of which were used to make a moussaka the following day. This was very disappointing and the awful meals (Christmas meal was good though) detracted from our vacation. What was actually infuriating is that there were no beverages (I mean tap water or even juice) with dinner. I understand that this might be a nationwide norm, but at a five star hotel this came across very poorly. It left a far worse taste than the food. How is it remotely acceptable to not offer coffee or tea after dinner or with dessert? I should mention that they have live music five days a week which was really good. Filipe Neves, especially, was a remarkably talented musician. The bar in the foyer is very well stocked. When he was available Renato was able to make any sort of cocktail I could think of and he was a uniquely talented individual. These were easily the best mixed drinks I have ever had. Renato, Reuben (laurenco?) and Abel were amazing staff and if we were to return it would be because of our experiences with them.

The pool is very well kept and the lifeguard wipes down the pool chairs in between uses which is very great to see in the middle of a pandemic. The location is perfectly close to everything you need. The main square is a very short walk away filled with many restaurants and bars. There is a supermarket just two blocks away filled with all the snacks and drinks you could need for your room. There are also several restaurants on the beach just minutes away with some great offers. There are mini fridges in the room which is very convenient for keeping a couple cold beers or some cheese and crackers to have on your balcony for a snack. Beds were very comfortable and there's a safe to keep all your valuables. The breakfast here is not great but for how inexpensive this hotel is, it's really jot an issues. For me it was better to walk down to the local bakery and get a fresh Portuguese pastry and coffee. There are two wonderful bakeries near by so do not hesitate to branch out! Great stay will be return again soon. Ps. Pro tip: Bring your own beach towel or by one at the little shops in the area. They will charge you an arm and leg to rent one!

This hotel is right in the middle of all of the exciting shops and restaurants on the boardwalk. I would recommend staying here, but I do have a few tips for you. There is a private pool, but it is small and there are not many chairs. You also can't book the chairs, but people will put out their towel and hog the chair all day. Be weary of this. Bring your own towels! If you don't you will have to buy elsewhere as the hotel does not provide this service. Do not buy the towels on the boardwalk, but rather walk along the main street and find a cheap vendor as they sell the same towels for less than half price outside of the busier areas. The beach access is nice as well. If you are staying for awhile, consider buying an umbrella or bringing your own. Otherwise, you will have to rent their permanent umbrellas for 12 euro if you stay at the hotel. The reclining chairs come with a nice mat that is comfortable to relax on all day. Food nearby at restaurants is great as well. Restaurants stay open way past midnight and people do not start their meal until almost 10pm. Expect dinner to last 2-3+ hours without a rush.

It was my first time visiting Portugal and an uncle of mine said Vilamoura is a great place to stay…read moreas its not too busy. That's when I came across the apartments at Laguna golf, as per Expedia it was listed as 4 star resort and was right in our price range so without much comparison we went ahead and booked it. Seeing as we went with other family as well, we decided to do self catering as to save a little cash. Upon arriving at the airport we told our driver the address and unfortunately were taken to the golf course and not the apartments. It seemed there was a little confusion as the Laguna Apartments were under renovation for a number of years according to the front desk representative, so of course the driver did not know where to take us. In the end we drove another km or so and found the gates, was a little pricey but for future reference it should be about 35 euros from Faro airport to the apartment. Check in ran fairly smooth, although pur room wasn't yet ready it only took about 10-15 minutes before we got our room key. And by room key, yes I mean there was only one. We had a 1 bedroom suite, fairly generic with bathroom and living room. The kitchen though was spread across one wall which was a little difficult to work with but we managed. Again going back to the part where this was newly renovated, all the appliances were being used for the first time so we had a few issues. Especially with the fridge which had somewhat of a mind of its own and made the freezer unusable. Now at the beginning of this review I did mention we were doing self catering, with that in mind the cutlery, dishes and pots/pans were very basic and not very practical. Seems they expect you to go out and eat, which is difficult seeing as there is nothing on the property and the closest bar is about a 5-10 min walk. Not complaining about the distance, just would be nice if there was a shop or something closer. Luckily, we had the whole place mostly to ourselves for the first couple days, as I mentioned a couple times now they were renovating so only a couple suites on the ground level were vacant. This meant the pool was all ours, it looks nice from afar but is only a couple feet deep from end to end. Overall experience was okay, probably would recommend visiting in August as they said the majority of the property will be finished so you won't have to listen to hammers and saws every morning.
