He charged me $20 to diagnosed the issue, suggest an affordable place I could take it to, and even show me how to disable the alarm if it happened again before I could fix the issue. The first time I contacted this establishment the person was very nice and patient, the second and fourth time that same person was rather impatient. But my beef with this mechanic is for four other reasons. 1. He refused to give even a rough estimate of the car's worth. (Is it worth $1 or $1,000,000? Who knows, it's a mystery!) 2. He refused to give a rough estimate of how long the car could last after getting all the work done that he suggested on it (obviously not an exact science but a general ballpark would be nice, no mechanic purchases a used car themselves without having somewhat of an idea of how long the major components of the vehicle might possibly last). 3. Then he suggested an almost $1300 worth of work (at the very least) on a car that apparently wasn't worth that amount. (I called around to other mechanics to get their opinion, and from my explanation they explained how it wasn't worth it, contradicting what I had been told by Hansen.) 4. After getting $200 worth of work on the car, and declining the additional $1100 work, he then said I had to pick up the car that same day (which I wasn't able to do). After seeing the lot when I went to pick it up (and after seeing it a a few times since) I understood later why he needed me to pick up the car immediately. His lot didn't have enough room to play hoops full court. With my small compact car gone, a sweet, unencumbered, game of HORSE was now possible... In the numerous states I lived, and with the numerous cars I've owned, in the span of a few decades, I've never experienced this... (It should be noted I edited the amounts from the original post. The owner called me immediately after my review to correct the numbers. Yep that makes it better, thanks. And while I'm at it, I'll mention that I called him two weeks in advance to set up a time convenient for him, and also told him it was no rush in regards to fixing the car once it arrived, which took a few days for him to do so. So had I been warned in advance that there would be a same-day-of rush to get my car off the property if I wasn't willing to spend the $1300 he suggested, I probably never would've brought it in to begin with. And now the search continues for just one not-awful mechanic... it's kind of like finding a good politician, they just don't seem to exist...) read more

If you want a top notch auto diagnostician, go straight to Hansen Mechanical and speak with Graham. Prior to finding Hansen, I had been completely ripped off by a dealership, and then further screwed over by another independent mechanic after that. After explaining my situation to Graham, he said he'd personally take on the repairs himself given the difficulties I'd had with prior mechanics. He diagnosed the issues within a day, and promptly made the repairs as soon as the parts came in. He took the vehicle on multiple test drives to ensure the check engine light didn't come back on, before returning it to me. The last mechanic had told me that if my vehicle continued to have trouble- they would recommend I sell it and get another car; it took them 3 months to come to this conclusion. When I shared this with Graham, he told me I had a great vehicle and that there was no reason it shouldn't keep going for another 200,000 miles. Graham's feedback matches what is usually said about the type of vehicle I have, and I was grateful to hear this from a reputable source- especially since I'm not in the position to purchase another vehicle at this time. Until this most recent difficulty, I had never necessitated much help from an auto mechanic as my vehicles had always run well. After these terrible and costly experiences with a dealership and an independent mechanic, I now understand the value of knowing an honest mechanic with strong diagnostic skills. Graham is the ultimate professional. He's excellent, excellent, excellent at diagnosing the problem, and isn't just a "parts changer." He is great at communicating with the client and providing updates along the way. He is sensitive to the fact that this might be your main mode of transportation, and understands that you may need your vehicle back in good working order asap. Graham and the team at Hansen take such good care of me and my car, I can not recommend them enough. For basic car maintenance (like oil changes) the prices are far lower than other options. Same applies to tire replacement and larger services. I showed up with a nail in my tire on a Friday afternoon and Graham fixed it in less than an hour, charged me nothing (since I had bought the tires from him), and I was on my way! Its so refreshing to find a solid mechanic who I'm confident in and that I'd refer people to. I had such a great experience here. They replaced my front struts in my Honda Accord. Had an excellent experience here at Hansen Mechanical! Graham and Warren were both very professional and friendly. My car was leaking oil like crazy, and a lot of the places I called around were going to charge me $45 - $90 just to diagnose the problem. When I called, Graham told me to come down and that he'd take a look at the car free of charge. I think he was planning on taking a quick look to see if he could figure out the problem, but ended up going more in depth than he thought. Despite this, he only charged me for the chemicals he used up during the inspection. After about 30 minutes or so, Graham gave me a solid diagnosis and estimate for the costs, which was well under what I was expecting to pay. After the diagnosis, Graham told me that he wasn't sure if he'd be able to get to it within the week, and that I could take it to a different store. However, I was struck by his honesty and the customer service I had received so far, so I decided to keep my car there. He ended up being able to squeeze it in after 2 days! The oil leak had been completely fixed and his estimate was on-point. Overall, I had a great and honest experience here at Hansen Mechanical and will definitely be going back if I have any more car problems. They receive my highest recommendation! read more

My car broke down on the side of the road and when I called AAA and told them I'd like a tow to Hansen Mechanical, the lady from AAA said, "Oh, we love those guys!" so I knew I was in good hands. Graham fit me in to his schedule right away and immediately gave me a comprehensive run down of what was going on, how he would fix it and at what cost. His price was way cheaper than I could have imagined and even with my short notice, I was back on the road in no time. When I picked up my car, it was cleaner than I had left it, it handles like a dream, and he had taken the time to do a full inspection to let me know of any problems I may have in the future and how much I might anticipate to fix it (just old tires and old brakes).
