Holy Phantom Pho Batman!…read more After a long day of wandering Vienna (trying to burn off the strudel I'd had for breakfast), I needed sustenance, and I needed it to be on my way home. Fortunately, I'd done my research ahead of time and had a couple places in mind, but as the wind picked up, nothing sounded better than hot pho. The place is tiny and was packed when I first arrived (typically, totally empty by the time I left) at 3:15 on a Wednesday. The waitress/hostess took my order quickly and my pho was out in a flash. While more expensive (and not keeping with my tight budget), I went for the mixed pho with schwarznudeln (black noodles). Choice well made, self. The noodles were so fresh, I bet they made them this morning. The broth was absolute perfection. I usually find most soups in general are over salted, but this one was on point. There was just the right amount of meat (chicken and flank steak) as well, both of which were extremely tender. All in all, the perfect pho.

I went here with my husband for lunch when visiting Vienna. The place inside looks trendy with colorful decor and neon lights. The wait staff was very nice and could speak English. My husband got Pho Beef and me Bun Rieu. My husband loved his Pho but my Bun Rieu felt fake (nothing like home made). Each dish was about €9-€10. I wouldn't go back. It's just not the vibe I'd like when wanting comfort Vietnamese food. I do like the staff and cleanliness though.

Service is a bit more of a hit or miss. On the first visit, we had an excellent server and she was very on point. Immediate menus, very easy to work with. Followed up to see how we were doing. Takeout visit: not so good. Young man is covering a lot of table by himself. All over the place. I told him I needed a minute to look at the menu. When I then was done, he looked at me standing there, looking at him, and then immediately helped the people who are German speaking, who had walked in behind me by quite a bit. I was not amused by that. That was very unprofessional. He could've at least asked if I was ready yet? The food will be excellent. Just remember that service, like in a lot of places in Vienna, is slow and awkward. Definitely a place to stop though if you want Asian food.

It was only a block away from our pension when we stayed in Vienna. It was located between our pension and the nearest subway station (Sieglergassse Station on Orange Line), so we passed by it every time we took subway to travel around Vienna (which we did a lot). At first it was just mere convenience, but since we really enjoyed their food, we went back for the second time. Food tasted very good--every dish we ordered (photos). Very good service by very nice/friendly staff. There is a curbside and pedestrian walk dining area, but interior was nicely decorated (photo). I thought dishes were reasonably priced especially for Vienna. When we returned for the second time, the owner recognized us and treated us to his special Vietnamese (I didn't even think they grew coffee in Vietnam??) cold brew after our meal. That was super nice of him. We found out from him that there are now three locations of tatas in Vienna, so he's doing really well in his business. This was the original one we ate at. Highly recommended if you're in the area!
