Lloyd made me a mezcal drink which he created based on on my likes so that was kinda cool. Loved this bar and everyone needs to try it if your a cocktail drinker. It's not huge inside so get there early or make reservations. We got lucky both times with finding bar seating. Fabulous drinks and amazing service from Emma, Lloyd and Laura! It is probably the most artistically decorated cafe we encountered in Lyon, short of the great grand Art Deco of Brasserie Georges. This is more intimate and more striking. The motif is lush vegetation, painted on to an olive green background. Green on green. The vegetation swirls in every direction in graceful curls. Cafe Charmant is in a not very charmant neighborhood, the immediate environs of Gare Oullins, a functional boxy modern train station with all the architectural beauty of a highway intersection. The buildings around it are uninspired modern apartments or somewhat industrial looking offices. In this grim suburban setting, Cafe Charmant is an oasis for the eyes and for the soul. My suspicion is that the food is just as good as the decor, But you will have to find that out for yourself.

I say this because in one of the pictures we saw a rooftop view but when we arrived it was just a two story, house-like ambiance, which at the end of the day worked out anyway as we were very comfortable and it wasn't noisy at all, but still very confusing. The drinks were out of this world! I got the shark in a bikini or something along those lines and it was served in a Tiki cup while my friend's was served in this little stout looking jar. My drink wasn't too strong which is exactly how I like my cocktails so I was very impressed. All in all I would definitely come back here if ever in Lyon again :)

He's a multi-lingual world traveler, wine sommelier and expert on local wines, liquors, champagnes, travel advice, local products and an all-around great guy. Recently opened and featuring 12pm-12am hours, traffic is light during lunch and most weekdays and picks up later and the weekends. A visit or two made my trip to Lyon perfect and gave me excellent information on local sites, great conversation and travel assistance. Next time I'm in town I'll be there.
