I see they have a new young manager, I wish him well..I left your pharmacy due to the mistakes made on my account. Im new to Wegovy, which is self pay, I took in all instructions in person. My first wegovy prescription came with instructions from the pharmacist to drink "40" ounces of water with my pill. That a lot of water..after a WEEK of these instructions, I was advises tjat its only "4" ounces of water. Im pissed..so my next month, I ran out of my medication due to the fact that the pharmacist sent for pre-authorization to my insurance! it IS SELF PAY! I called the pharmacist and we discussed how i told them it was self pay and I'm out of my pills..SHE hung up on me. So I call the store and ask for the manager, a woman answered i believe her name started with a C and older woman. Yesterday I purchased a package of spring greens. The greens were wilted and had black slime throughout them. I looked at the date and it was June 26. Two weeks ago I bought a package of organic baby carrots. They were slimy and several were so spoiled that they were like jelly. I have had other issues of spoilage in the past. While I will still continue to buy shelf items, I will avoid the produce section and buy from stores that consistently have fresh product. read more

The store is modern and clean. The selection and quality is great. I only have it at 3 stars because it can be pricey. Especially in the summer during tourist season, but as a local, it's not fair to us to raise the prices in the summer. I tend to head over the bridge into Portsmouth to do my grocery shopping in the summer and most of the rest of the year. I only go to hannaford out of convenience because it's closer to home. I love shopping here because it's close to my home. Their rewards program is one of the better ones - I am constantly getting coupons for free items and money off products I frequently buy. When I get the free items and I like them, I definitely purchase them again. All of the employees are friendly and I've gotten to know several by name over the years. The prices on brand name products are a bit higher than other stores, but when I need something quickly, they usually have what I need. I especially like their store brand products! Great prices on those and they taste just as good, if not better, than name brand products. read more

I am sick of Hannafords. I've put up with it for years, and will not be going back. The swordfish we paid a good amount for was terrible, the broccoli was inedible, and the potatoes were disgusting. How can you not have good roasting potatoes in Maine????? And why can't they have more than 2 cashiers? Every time I go to check out that is the case. The lines get very long and all of a sudden 5 more cashiers show up out of nowhere. read more

I have seen so many people go to pick up their life saving meds for themselves or their family members only to be told that they don't have it in stock. I watched one man who was saying that his son was going to literally die without the medication. They never bother to call and let you know. I have meds that get called in twice a week. It's always the same, and yes I need them. Its dangerous to NOT have them. But I guess I'll have to hope for the best. This pharmacy doesn't have them. They MAY tomorrow. My doctors office is closed now until Monday so I may end up at the hospital. Who knows. But as if that wasn't bad enough, the lady I spoke with was as rude and flat out NASTY as could be. I'm okay with this store. It is what it is. Mainstream supermarket shopping with above average selection of organic/natural foods & personal care. Hannaford has a semi-monopoly in Maine - for some towns this is the only supermarket - and unless you want to go into NH this is pretty much your main option in the York area. Because York has a large seasonal and tourist population, this location seems to be better stocked & feature more amenities than some other Hannafords I've been to. Wider range of hot/prepared foods, seasonal stuff (foods, decor, housewares, etc), personal care, brands. This is a very typical supermarket. Some people complain about the prices but Hannaford doesn't advertise themselves as a discount store so get over it :) If you're looking for discounts, there are many options in NH - Market Basket, Walmart, etc. Pros: Clean, hot foods, 2 Redbox machines & video rental counter, decent selection of produce, open in winter (they're pretty fast with getting their parking lot plowed in winter! awesomely safe!) Cons: Need to check the dates on dairy/meat, gets quite crowded in summer, some of the baggers aren't very efficient (25 items spread out into 1-2 items per plastic bag?), crowded in the summer (avoid Saturday afternoons in August!) read more

I am a local york townie who shops here three times per week for the last 17 yrs. The reason I'm writing this review is because of the friendliness of the staff on Mother's Day. My son and I needed a card for his mom and I gave him $5 and dropped him off and waited in the car for him as I thought it would be nice for him to pick it out himself. He came out 5 min later with a huge smile on his face. Apparently the card he wanted was more than $5, and the staff told him not to worry about the shortfall and gave him the card AND a flower to give to his mom. I thought that was pretty cool so I had to share. read more

Huge store with a pharmacy, great store hours, self check out when you need it, lots of beautiful flowers and plants and local produce. I spent $500 in groceries yesterday. After you pay coupons come out with your receipt. One for chocolate chips, one for ensure, and ONE FOR $1.00 OFF MY NEXT GROCERY SHOPPING!!! I long for the days for the Shop 'n Saves that were owned by local people. Hannaford takes and takes and does little to give back to individuals. My boyfriend and I were just here last weekend for a wedding. The day after we popped into Hannafords for some snacks I decided to write this review because of the loveliness of the workers in this store. We are from MA live in RI and I am not sure if we are just used to bad attitudes and crummy service but the service here really stuck out to us. People smiled at us, made small talk with us, were genuinely wanting to help us find what we needed. Although- that seems small- I guess when you're not used to that type of customer service it stands out. read more

I am so upset...I just read the sign saying I was getting charged 5 cents for every paper bag inuae because the town has a rule about plastic bags...not my fault so why am I getting punished for this I spend lots of hard earn money to shop here and now I'm getting punished because of the town law it's not right.. I was doing weekly pickup here until they recently changed the policy to say that they won't go over substitutions with you anymore, just send an email and hope you drive away with whatever they give you, but won't take requests unless you call the store an hour before pickup. They also started limiting quantity for pickup items that are not limited quantity when in store. Their deli clerks are also horrible and never follow instructions given about thickness for cold cut purchases, which is disappointing considering their high deli prices. I'm done with hannaford, which is a shame given I've been shopping here regularly for 4 years. read more

Nice people! Overpriced!!! But the reason for 1 star is the ridiculous checkout in express. They put the purchase in a bag and supposedly spin the rack. I am supposed to then engage is a game of hide and seek for m purchases. Maybe they spin it, maybe not. Since it's in a bag it looks like 7 other bags and I have twice had to return for a purchase. On the 7th of May during the five o'clock rush hour. I took a trip to a local Hannaford near me. On that trip, I ran into the produce department looking for something exotic that would show my taste buds the other side of life. I stumbled upon a grapefruit and decided to pass. My friend however, Kevin, walked by that grapefruit, and said, "I do." (upon further review, I rate the grapefruit 8.3/10. Find my review on the subject.) I continued searching and found but a red, delicious, watermelon. For this one, I decided not to pass. For this one, I took home. Now I held off on this watermelon until the 11th of May. After slicing open the core contents of this watermelons flavor, these slices provided a form of comfort, a form of resemblance, a form of peace in my childhood and in my memories. I gave this delight to my friend Kevin, "Wow, oh wow. This is a juicy watermelon. Did you inject this watermelon with water, or is this straight from the fridge?" "Oh, it's straight the fridge." I live in Florida. My mom lived for many years at Sentry Hill. Hannaford helped her shop and took care of her RX from the pharmacy. I came up summers to help hospice my mom as she got older. Hannaford not only took care of my mom, but I ended up having several surgeries and they also took care of ME! And when I come up to Maine for a few months in the summer, they still take care of me. They are so helpful, answer any questions I have or my mom had, and I am very grateful for their care. Thank you pharmacy and pharmacy staff....and yes, I still grocery shop too! They continue to help local farmers and have great stock. The BEST!!! read more

I used to shop here a lot, 4-5 times a week. Many (most) locals I know shop at Market Basket in Portsmouth where prices are cheaper, but I've always liked to try to stay local. However, I find that over the last month or so, the music is louder than ever and it drives me crazy. Why does it need to be so loud? Also, I find that, with a couple of exceptions, the people who work there seem miserable. No one smiles, says hello, tries to help if you need something. One last comment, now that the town has gone to bring your own bag (which is fine), the baggers pack them so heavy that at times they can barely lift them into a cart. Why do I bring in 7-8 bags only to have them shove everything they can into 2 bags? I'm pretty sure I'll be joining my friends and neighbors very soon at Market Basket. read more

The Hannaford is quite large and spacious, but I'm used to a much different standard! Prices are fair and there is a great selection of most items. I like that there is an organic section, and an international section. What I find disappointing is the selection of meat and seafood - which isn't as extensive as I would like. I go to this hannaford a lot. Most employees are pleasant and helpful. I'm in here a minimum of 3 times a week because I live so close by. The prices are very high compared to market basket. The produce is good and fresh but again very expensive. About mid July the staff is sick of the tourists who are rude and obnoxious and it shows - who can blame them. This time of year they are great. It's well stocked and they have a great variety and clean restrooms btw. Have lottery and a good pharmacy. They have a specialty meat counter and a very good fish counter. read more

Ask someone who works there and they'll direct you to the right place however if you need to deal with the managers, forget about it. They're rude and think their better than you. Let's just put it this way, when my mother comes up from Florida for a visit, she makes Hannaford a visiting stop for her, because she loves this particular store so much. It's clean, which is huge for me, and the produce is so fresh compared to other stores. I trust the deli, I trust the meat department and I trust the produce. If someone can say they trust it, you know it's good. BUT, if you visit during the summer, you will incur long lines and higher prices due to tourists. I would recommend the best times to go, but that is a local secret. We have a system we residents abide by in order to go to the store with less craziness. Yes, higher prices, but still worth it. Some staff do conduct themselves below standards, but I'm not there to make friends. I'm there to buy quality food. If someone is too bad or someone surprises me with above expectations conduct, I tell the manager. The good should always be commended just as much as we all fume about the negative. read more

The only reason I didn't give it one star is because the pharmacy (the reason I was there) is super friendly and helpful. I've stopped in many times. I only pick up a few items so I like to quickly use the self checked out. There are three at this location. Usually there are only two or less working on any visit. This is painful. Please have them working. And have someone available to quickly attend to the help light. They are not always user friendly. And they need to be cleaned up throughout the day. They are cluttered with baskets and trash every time I go. I love shopping at your stores, but this one needs help and attention. read more

I read the other reviews and just have to say that Hannaford has succeeded in training their customers to spend more. They are not just more expensive, they are GOUGING the public. Just compare some simple items like Cream cheese or pepperoni. Hormel pepperon at Hannafart is $3.99 for 6 Oz!! That's $10.64 a pound....for Pepperoni , which is a meat made from scraps and bone grindings. They systematically raise prices on certain items that you throw in your cart and voila! your bill is at least 30% more than it would be at Market Basket, at least!! Go to the meat department and look up. Over the meat department is a huge sign that says "Custom Cut Meats". Ask them to cut you a steak a little thicker than what is in the case. They look at you like your crazy and tell you, we can't do that. Call a manager and it becomes laughable. He told them to cut the steak and 3 guys in white butcher coats all said that they were not authorized to "Cut". Are you kidding me? These are grown men who work in the meat cutting department, yet they can't be trusted to use a knife? I worked at a local market when I was 14 and my boss taught me how to cut a steak. Pretty straightforward. You certainly can find some nice employees, but I find nice people everywhere. The company is what is ripping off the public and they have idiots saying, "it cost a little more, but it's worth it". You are probably the same people that walk into a car dealership and say, " I simply must have the TV's in the back seat for my 2 adorable children", and the salesman says we have just that and you walk away paying for 2 TV's with a car rapped around it. Hannaford is know to buy cheaper product at there deli area and especially in the bakery (if you can call it that). You cannot buy a decent loaf of bread and the crap that they do sell is over $4. It tastes bad and goes bad in less than 24 hours. Some of their brad is $5.99! Have you ever been to a Price Chopper? My lord, they have so much better product, more selection and far better prices. Hannaford is strategically placed in areas that are far enough from other markets to make it a challenge to go elsewhere. Do your pocketbook a favor. Spend the $$ on gas and go to a Market Basket or a Price Chopper. You will feel better and just maybe, the fat cats at Hannafrap will be forced to be a better neighbor to the people they serve. read more

Great selection. Not the friendliest or most helpful staff (go to Trader Joes in Portsmouth where the staff are always smiling and talking to you, you don't get that here). High prices. Forget the fact that Maine has sales tax, the prices alone are higher then the base prices right over the bridge to Portsmouth. 1/3 isn't really that good, I shop here when Im desperate. Honestly if it wasn't for the Massachusetts big money second home locals, I doubt they would afford to exist. Talk to the locals who live here year round, they don't shop here, they go over the bridge to NH where the prices are lower and there's no sales tax. Hannaford can't avoid the Sales Tax, but they can avoid charging me an extra $1 or $2 for the same items that are sold in Portsmouth. So why would I shop here by choice ? I'll give 2 stars because the selection is good. read more

Why is it that the buyers fail to recognize that when an item is empty on the shelf it indicates high demand! Instead they just stop stocking the item. Happens ALL THE TIME in Gluten Free items especially. And they charge top dollar so why are they shooting themselves in the foot?? Example: So Delicious Cashew Milk Cappuccino dairy free ice cream! I looooooooooove Hannaford in York, ME, their prices are much, much lower than the other Hannaford's in ME, i.e., Wells, Kennebunk, etc. I don't know why Hannaford can't offer the same daily and sale prices that York Hannaford has? Okay:/ supermarket they have a good selections but I was upset with the lack of healthy food and also with the placement of the grocery items. It takes me a long time to find things there like once I looked for sprinkles for a half hour and couldn't find them! I thought they'd be under cones and toppings but no! This is one of the better Hannaford's. It is quite busy and well stocked. The organic section has a nice variety including some coffee beans from local roasters, beer and wine and large produce area. The meat and seafood is just ok as there are better choices in the area for that. Many of the items of overpriced but you can be find some unique and interesting items not found at other stores here. read more

As a York resident, I appreciate having a grocery store right in town. Overall B+ grading. One thing I have often found needing improvement is the customer service. As someone who works in Quality, am very often disappointed by the lack of friendly smile or greeting from the cashier and baggers. Definitely in need of customer service training.
