This is such a cool little ballpark. It is very small. In fact, I've been to several college stadiums that are larger and have larger crowds than The Hank. That's okay. It doesn't make it less fun. Plus, I only paid $10 for a ticket to see the Mobile Bay Bears, right behind home plate. You can't beat that! I can't remember what I paid for a soft drink or popcorn, but I know it wasn't very much. Don't expect to see men come into the stands yelling "cold beer" or "hot dogs" because you won't find it here. This is not a major league ballpark, but it is a fun and inexpensive family outing. Everyone in the Mobile area should go at least once and support our little hometown team. By the way, they're pretty good! So, what are you waiting for???

Thriller Nights of Lights

We drove through Hank's parking lot to see the Thriller of Nights and Lights during October for their Halloween light show and it was amazing! My kids couldn't get enough and for $6.00 per person, 3 and under FREE, plus $2 off for military I'd say it's a very fair price. We'll be going again next year. As for the stadium, it's nice that it's cheap but I wouldn't go more than twice a season. If you're a baseball fan you might just enjoy the game but the stadium itself is a bit older and the construction doesn't allow you to see the field while you're getting food n snacks like I'm used to. They do entertain the kids pretty well between innings and even allow them to run the bases which they always enjoy, no matter the stadium. If they upgraded their stadium or amenities a little more or even had a contending team I'd probably see myself coming a lot more often.

This was a great experience. Very clean stadium, I got three foul balls during the game. The entertainment is great as well.

Ladd Peebles Stadium - And Coach Cutie!

Ladd Peebles Stadium

You never know where you'll end up, huh?! I wrote a review of Ladd 2 years ago, not knowing that…read morethis would be my home stadium 2 years later. Funny how life works! Well, although many (or most) aspects of my original review still ring true, I'm pleased to announce that a few changes have been made to make ol' Ladd Peebles a bit more palatable in 2 years' time. The parking situation is the same, but thankfully I've been delivered and now have a parking pass. Concessions are the same from what I hear as I haven't made a purchase since 2016. Now that I'm older, I do my very best to avoid the call of overpriced processed cheese (reformed concessions nachos lover here) and trans fats. I digress. But what has taken a turn for the better is the overall stadium itself. Some things have been patched and repainted, and it's looking more like a stadium this season. Not sure if the recent press and the threat of South's new on campus stadium has had anything to do with it-- just kidding, that's it! But, we'll take it. Ladd's an old staple for the football community in Mobile and beyond. (Bear Bryant coached a game here, right?!) And while no one's confusing it for the Mercedes Benz Superdome, it certainly serves its purpose!

Parking is limited and often you must park in yards or church parking lots and walk 2 to 4 blocks, but it is not bad. The locals and churches charge $5 to $10/car. I don't recommend the hot dogs and the food choices are limited. The stadium has aluminum bench seating so bring something to sit on to minimize the pain.

So apparently Hancock Whitney Stadium is the "4th best stadium in the country." I don't know what…read morecountry they're talking about -- maybe the country from Mad Max where everything's a wasteland -- but it's definitely not the one with actual functioning football venues. Calling this the 4th best stadium is like calling gas station sushi the 4th best meal in America. It's delusional, it's offensive, and it's probably dangerous to your health. The "amenities" include bleachers that feel like you're sitting on a punishment device from medieval times, a sound system that makes every announcement sound like Charlie Brown's teacher, and a scoreboard that looks like it was ordered off Craigslist. The atmosphere? Imagine a high school game where everyone's dad is yelling about "running the ball" while holding a warm Busch Light. That's the energy. Food? If you like paying $10 for nachos that taste like they were made during the COVID lockdown and stored under the bleachers since, you're in luck. I'll give it this -- it's probably the 4th best stadium in Mobile. And that's only because there are only 3 others.

The video board and fireworks are quite impressive and everything's shiny and brand spanking new in this 25,000-seater. I didn't get a chance to visit, but there's a nice sized "locker room" on site to shop for souvenirs, gifts, and team paraphernalia. Social distancing and masks are required, there are ample sanitizing stations, clear bag policy is in full effect, and it's 100% cash-less.

Mobile Civic Center Arena - Great show!

Yeesh! I don't even know where to begin with the Mobile Civic Center!…read more It's here, standing (for now) and offering a public service -- I guess. I'm torn between the assessment of 2 and 3 stars. (3 being an average, but still positive, rating -- I don't think I can because my cons certainly outweigh the positives) There, it's settled. The hubs and I visited the Civic Center for the first time to attend a Mardi Gras ball. The place is HUGE, but extremely (severely and sorely) outdated. (Pretty sure that's why the city is soon tearing it down!) The restrooms were flooded halfway through the night, the restroom doors were hit or miss on locks, and don't even get me started on the shoddy AC-- you're cool in one room, literally burning up in the next. I did love looking down on the ball's main dance floor from the 2nd floor seating. Oh, and there was plenty parking -- am I reaching now?! Sorry. Did it serve its purpose? Yes! Would I be missing out if I never went back? No, not at all! Overall, it's a shell of an old building (that once was, maybe) that's workable for a few hours (before the flooding), and that's about all I've got on the Mobile Civic Center. I will say that the Mystics of Time is a great job of fixing it up and decorating the venue for their ball!
