Huge hat tip to MaMa E's for the Domestic Violence Awareness fundraiser they participated in today…read more(October 6, 2023) at Option, Inc. in Hobbs, NM! While my chicken fried steak was just a little bit overcooked and hard to slice into with the provided plastic knife, it was still Southern-style delicious with the cream gravy, mashed potatoes, a fresh roll, green beans with real bacon bits, and a huge brownie on the side with a bottled water ($15). The owner was such a friendly, generous person. She was outside her food truck - not trailer - during this lunchtime event talking to folks waiting in line. Her employees/helpers were very amicable too. I've always heard great things about this food truck, but never had the opportunity to visit it. So glad I did. MaMa E's was established in 2018. Their motto is "where you can taste love in the grub." That's for sure! Their setup was for a large group in downtown Hobbs, so many tickets were pre-sold, but their food truck was nice and clean inside and out - I snooped! Lol. I would definitely return to an event where MaMa E was catering. Thanks, ma'am!

I had marked these GPS coordinates months ago, making a note that Rene Anthony's was notable the highest-rated restaurant on the long drive between Dallas and Tularosa, NM. But I began to doubt myself as glimpses through the thick fog revealed no civilization, nothing but empty fields. Was there really a restaurant out here open at 5:12 a.m. or did my typically methodical road trip research contain an error? And suddenly, there it was, an oasis of an eatery standing alone in an ordinary building on the south side of the highway surrounded by nothingness. I strolled into the small dining room filled with a dozen truckers waking up to a vivid discussion about the NFL. A city slicker seemingly out of place, I was welcomed with open arms and placed my dine-in order at the register. The only breakfast option was a lengthy list of breakfast burritos, a dish I don't normally enjoy. But this was different. Chef Anthony Sanchez is making magic here. Ordering the porky pig, a massive burrito absolutely stuffed with fresh chorizo, onions, and peppers, this is pure deliciousness in the middle of nowhere!

After settling on fish tacos, I should have taken my brother's previous advice about their "barbakoa" tacos. RATING BREAKDOWN Food: 3 | Service: 4 | Ambiance: 3 | Price: 3 PARKING There is usually ample parking in the lot. Street parking is also within walking distance for trucks/trailers. LOCATION/AMBIANCE I didn't even bother with changing the location from Bender Blvd to Joe Harvey Blvd, but they are and have had their trailer parked next to Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Enchanged Lands, REALTORS. Their menu needs a complete overhaul. It's difficult to read with all of the price changes and markouts. Too busy. THE GRUB The fish taco plate ($14.55 including tax & card payment fee) was okay. I was asked if I wanted onion and cilantro along with red or green salsa. Without the onion and cilantro, these four small street-style tacos would have been pathetic. The fish was not battered or left whole. Instead it was cooked much in the same way you would ground beef. The red salsa was very flavorful with a kick. The rice was plain - no veggies infused - and a very small amount was dished into my takeout box styrofoam. The pinto beans were okay. This plate also came with a canned soda of my choosing... Fanta Orange. LITTLE YELPER'S CLUB No kid's meals were available. SERVICE Friendly. Helps if you speak Spanish otherwise there may be a slight language barrier when asking for recommendations. I was given a buzzer in case I wanted to sit in my vehicle, I assume, as it was a bit breezy and chilly. The food came out fast and hot. MY FAVORITE PART... Supporting my locals. I just wasn't crazy about these street tacos. Living in Los Angeles, CA, for the past 10 years spoiled me. NOT SO FAVORITE PART... I did not like the fish chopped up. Aside from that, it had that "fishy" taste. Also, there is a 3.75% fee to use a debit/credit card that I was not made aware of. I didn't see a sign for this either. TIP I'll be trying their barbacoa whether it's beef or pork next time.
