My family came here to visit not knowing what to expect. It was a great experience learning how Forestiere built these tunnels so intentionally and with innovation. The guided tour is about 60 minutes and includes a lot of walking with some stairs, so be prepared with comfy shoes. However, there's also benches in the tunnels if you need a quick seat. The tour ends in the grand ballroom which connects to the gift shop. There you can find citrus sorbet made from the fruits of this garden. I had to give that a taste and it was sweet and zesty. I went home with some postcards to send to friends too. This place is also California State National Landmark No. 916! You must add it to your bucket list of adventures.

Buck Rock Lookout is a Really, Really, cool fire lookout. It was built in 1923 and has the first…read morelive in fire lookout. It's called a "4-A" style cab because it's 14 ft x 14 ft small live in fire lookout surrounded all around by windows. The stairways was built in 1942. It's open to the public from 9:30a-6p. The person in the cab is on duty and you can talk to him/her. From the Sequoia National Forest website: "Buck Rock Lookout sits perched atop a granite dome and offers a breathtaking view of the Great Western Divide and other spectacular high mountain peaks of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Access to the top is via a series of stair flights (consisting of 172 steps) suspended from the side of the rock." Pit toilet is available off on the Left before the stairs and the person on duty has to do those stairs everytime he/she needs to go! The stairs are fun, 172 steps, hold on to the handrails on both sides! It can be closed due to fires, lightening, etc. Worth going if ever in the area. I drove past Brix Mansion probably a hundred times before I actually stopped to look at it properly…read moreand I'm annoyed it took me that long. this building is stunning. built in 1889 and it still commands the whole block on Fresno Street. the architecture is the kind you just don't see anymore, ornate, detailed, genuinely grand. standing in front of it you get this weird feeling like you accidentally walked into a different century. it's on the National Register of Historic Places which it absolutely deserves. Fresno has more history than people give it credit for and Brix Mansion is one of the best physical reminders of that. if you're into architecture, local history, or just beautiful old buildings it's worth a deliberate visit not just a drive by. bring your camera because the photos basically take themselves. it's the kind of thing that makes you proud your city has preserved it and also a little sad most locals probably don't know its there. now you do. go look at it.

There is no parking around its since its really close to the community hospital, I would suggest parking on R street near the church and take the opportunity to appreciate and take pictures of this architecture marvel. It looks like something that should be in Hollywood to be honest. most people in Fresno can pass it without even knowing that they have this beautiful building. If you must know the building was constructed for Herman H. and Helena S. Brix in 1910-1911. Herman H. Brix made a pioneering contribution to the development of Coalinga and was influential in the commercial expansion of Fresno. In addition to its historical associations, the Brix Mansion possesses considerable architectural significance. Designed by architect Edward T. Foulkes, it represents a brilliant example of a period-inspired Italian Villa, the only residence in Fresno built in this lavishly-embellished style. Thursday was by far the best day as far as amount of people in the park and entry times/popular spots. That being said. It really didn't feel over crowded. I would definitely come back this time of year again. Also the weather app said it would be cold! 50-60's the whole time. It was only that temp Sunday. And when you're hiking you're warm. It was near perfect weather. For anyone researching when to come we would like to come in spring after the snow melt so that the waterfalls would be a bit bigger and maybe things aren't so dried out after hot summer. This was a magical experience felt like we landed on another planet and were walking in avatar world. The trees are magical. Great trails. The food at the lodges was surprisingly good and decently priced. (We shared a pizza). Same prices as things outside the park. No real price gouging. We got to see most everything in 3 days both parks. If you want to do every trail in the park and you won't be exhausted you could easily spend 5 days. For the main attractions 3 days was perfect. The only "negative" thing was the staff at Wuksachi Lodge. We were considering staying there but glad we didn't. We also saw another lodge and looked old and run down. We got Airbnb in 3 rivers and happy we did. Defiantly will come back again!

I can honestly say that six years later, my perspective completely changed. The first time we went, I was with my young boys and they did not enjoy the long hike. The Park Ranger had given us a suggestion to go through trails that were too difficult for our family. This time, we parked at the Giant Forest Museum and followed the trail to the Big Trees Trail. This trail is 1 km long and the trail circles the Round Meadow. It was amazing! This was exactly the type of trail would have loved in 2020. This time, I brought my aunt with me and we did our research to ensure we embarked on a trail that was easy for everybody. The Big Trees Trail is exactly that! There were people on wheelchairs, young children, and families. There are plenty of large sequoias for amazing pictures, fallen over trees that children can walk through like a tunnel, and there was even a tree trunk with a smooth interior, and children were using it as a slide. Big rocks were sprinkled throughout the trail, and kids and adults were climbing on them and taking amazing pictures. It took about one hour to get through this trail, and it was breathtaking. After that, we drove to the General Sherman Tree parking lot and walked to see it. One thing I would change for our next visit: purchase pass online to save some time at the gate.

A Wonderful Step Back in Time at Laws Railroad Museum…read more We absolutely loved our visit to the Laws Railroad Museum & Historic Site in Bishop, California! From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. There was so much to see and explore that we could have spent hours there. The museum is like stepping into an entire little town from another era. There's an old schoolhouse, a library, historic buildings, station agent family home, doctor's office, firehouse and fascinating pieces of everyday life -- including old Maytag appliances. Every building seemed to have something interesting to discover. One of the highlights was riding the Brill train, which was such a fun experience and especially exciting for our 9 year old son, who absolutely loves trains. Another memorable part of our visit was meeting Makenzie, who was working on and cleaning the historic No. 9 4-6-0 Baldwin steam locomotive. Makenzie took the time to talk with us and shared some fascinating information about the train and its history. That personal interaction really made our visit special. It's really wonderful to meet a community of train enthusiasts. You can tell how much care, dedication, and passion goes into preserving this incredible piece of California history. It's truly a hidden gem and a wonderful place for families, history lovers, and, of course, train spotters! We highly recommend Laws Railroad Museum and can't wait to visit again!
