Today (July 6, 2020) my 80 year old mother along with my 12 YEAR OLD son were going into the store to buy some snacks and drinks so I asked my mother to buy me a pack of cigarettes. My mother (reminding you, 80 YEARS OLD) left extremely upset because the cashier didn't have enough sense to distinguish the difference between "the law" and "common sense" !!
When my mother got to the register with the snacks and attempted to order my cigarettes , she couldn't remember what kind to get (reminding you, 80 YEARS OLD) so after making a statement about not remembering anything, she looked at my son and asked what kind was it? My 12 YEAR OLD son said "Marlboro Menthol". The cashier proceeded to tell my 80 YEAR OLD mother that it would be against the law for her to sell the cigarettes to her because of my son saying what kind. This mindset is what's wrong with our country today !!! NO COMMON SENSE !!
I understand a concern for people buying cigarettes for minors, but an 80 YEAR OLD lady with her 12 YEAR OLD grandson !? REALLY !! (AND he looks his age !! CLEARLY not an older teenager that might want cigarettes)
The LAW states - "It is unlawful to knowingly sell tobacco to someone who is purchasing the product for someone under 21 years of age. Although difficult to prove, retailers should use good judgement"
My mother (reminding you, 80 YEARS OLD) ensured the lady that she wasn't buying cigarettes for her grandson and the inexperienced cashier still refused to sell her the cigarettes. My mother (80) walked out of there extremely upset and confused.
NO COMMON SENSE !!!
