I moved to Oxford from Los Angeles for college before leaving in 2019 after graduation. In-N-Out was always my favorite burger growing up. Five Guys is great but expensive, and Handy Andy is as good or better and way cheaper. If you were to open a Handy Andy near me directly next to an In-N-Out and a Five Guys and made the prices the same for all three , I would eat Handy Andy's burgers 9/10 times. A couple of friends recommended for me to come to Handy Andy for lunch and try their burgers and last week I did. It's located on North Lamar just past the Beacon and is a real hole in the wall type of restaurant. The restaurant shows on its outdoor sign that they serve burgers and bbq. Parking is alongside the building and good luck if they are busy which they usually are. I arrived on Friday at about 11:30 a.m. and it got really busy shortly after that. When you walk inside you realize the owners must be all about the food because they surely aren't into interior decorating! That's okay because Handy Andy's has become somewhat of a famous eatery for locals and students who are in the know. I ordered a double burger dressed and with no cheese and added a side dish of bqq beans. With a soft drink and tax my bill was $13.48. Very reasonable. The cashier told me that their fries were frozen out of the bag type but their beans were homemade. My food arrived about 10 minutes after ordering. I started with a couple of spoonfuls of the beans and oh my, my were they good. They had a rich and robust flavor to them. My double burger (2 quarter-pound hand formed patties) was delicious. Plenty of nice tasting beef on a good bun. It was a solid burger. I'm not sure how much bbq this restaurant serves or its quality but I can tell you the their hamburgers and beans are well worth the trip here. I can see why this place has become so popular. Came here with my buddy Harrison,great guy, we both decided double cheeseburgers with an order of fries.Even with the lunch time rush (about 11:30) the burgers came out in about 10 minutes. The price was 12 dollars which for me is absolutely reasonable and worth the price as the burgers were delicious and were seasoned to perfection. A true treasured local hole in the wall. Tonight we had the best cheeseburger I've had in a very long time. Simple and delicious. We also had the pulled pork sandwich and the sauce has to be the best I've ever had. Not too spiced. Not too vinegary. Just very flavorful and tasty. Peach and apple hand pies were a touch soggy but we ate very crumb. Fries were meh. If they had crispy hand cut fries I'd never eat anywhere else. Delicious. And excellent polite service. We love Handy Andy! Hamburgers are the kind that hang off the bun, good bbq, and the smoked ham and turkey are very tasty. The fries are fat - not quite a potato log, but close. Amazing barbecue! Service was great, and the vibe was that of an old American diner. Not the most upscale place, but it is the tastiest.

Burgers! This is a no frills BBQ place with a fairly limited menu. We went in looking for ribs but they had been so busy that they didn't have time to make any. We settled for a burger, and tried some pulled pork and smoked turkey with coleslaw and baked beans. The pulled pork and smoked turkey were unremarkable, but the burger was amazing with a lovely char. We loved the coleslaw and baked beans too. This is a great value option for dinner! read more

This restaurant is an example of why more health inspections are needed. I've been in bait shops cleaners. While waiting on my order, I witnessed several tables of patrons who finished and left. With new patrons coming in sitting at tables that were never cleaned after last people left. The walls, floors, doors and entrance to bathrooms are filthy. It is a shame this place can't do any better. They have great reviews on their food, but I won't go back. If dining area is this nasty I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. Food is good but terrible customer service. They have never once answered the phone during anytime of the day or week, and I've lived in oxford for 6 years. It's ridiculous!! One of the workers told me that they unplug the phone if it starts to get even a little busy. If you want okay food and an extremely inconvenient experience then this is the place for you! This was our first visit to Handy Andy's in a couple of years and it was as good as ever. They now have a digital menu board which is a nice upgrade. They have some booths closed off due to Covid and an employee filling fountain drinks as opposed to self serve. The double cheeseburger is as good as you will get anywhere. Think Five Guys but better and like half the price. Instant and eternal classic. Now I have friends who think the burgers have gotten a bit worse over the years, but it's gucci we're not friends anymore. We do agree however that the bbq is still on point. One of the best parts about this place is the atmosphere -- it's basically the definition of a hole in the wall joint. Family-owned and operated, and although they apparently have a regular schedule, when I'm back in Oxford (usually around holiday szn) it feels like they just open whenever they're in the mood (which is about 50% of the time I want it unfortunately), and the thing is they can totally afford to do that. It's a hometown classic, and pretty much every time I go I see someone from high school... so you know, if you're into that sort of thing.
