As an end-of-job add-on, 5 LED ceiling lights were installed in two walk-in closets, laundry room, and landing area.

Unfortunately, the end result is pretty rough due to a choice in materials that ultimately comes down to saving himself about 50 bucks by choosing very low-grade plywood instead of a higher-grade smooth version. (They didn't use finish nails either) Lesson learned to supply my own materials, but it seems he could have communicated the options to me, especially after I supplied some of the other materials that were supposed to be included in the quote. The job was done quickly and I can fix it but I wouldn't hire this contractor to do any finish work.

They arrived on time and spent the next 5 or 6 hours working to repair a dry rot section of the frame. They were efficient at their task, and it now looks as good as new. As they finished up, they pointed out several other frames that need attention and I plan to have them take care of them, too. With the holidays at hand, we have agreed to address those after the middle of January. I couldn't be more pleased with the work accomplished today which was completed within my budget.

We did, and ended up adding a few hours to it and the work we needed done was done well. I am a bit of a pain in the ass as a client but I will always say either way if it was from my point of view great or not great service... and for ACE Handyman Services they did a GREAT JOB! My Dad, who would hire 'casual labor' from time-to-time, used to say "pay peanuts, get monkeys". Obviously, not true today with this franchise. [Contrary to "Mary G's" review ... you decide if it's "fact or fiction" ... I e-mail'd them the sketch, they gave me a quote, guy shows up and charges me $150 for saying the quote's not valid; stupidly I allow them to come back after assurances from the "boss", only to find out after the callback that they charged my CC without my approval!] Would never again consider them ... not even to clean out a birdhouse. Be skeptical of the reviews which claim they were less expensive than others [unless it's a neurosurgeon]. In summary, I'll not longer use Yelp.

The two Workman were nice and very polite. Usually on time However they did not pay attention to details and preparation before painting. Furniture was covered but areas that should be protected from the ceiling and wall paint were not sufficiently masked off or protected from paint splatter. Two areas on the living room carpeting had good size paint drops and looked as if the workers tried to clean the area but what ever they used, left the carpet discolored . There should have been better protection while painting. Also some ceiling paint splatter on pleated shades. Again they did not protect the area. One hard wood floor vent had paint drips in between the grates. Home owner was able to remove it with efforts. Business owner apologized for the incomplete dry wall repair and said he would send a different crew to fix. He Apologized for the carpet spots with no solution. Our advice is to instruct his crew to pay more attention to protecting the home owners areas that aren't part of the work they are hired for and to detail work around moldings, doorways , windows and fixtures. We had only one area of white woodwork that was painted, the stair railing. Result was satisfactory but not as well done as previous areas in the past. Homeowner chose not to have any other woodwork painted and is satisfied with that choice. The home owner was very prepared prior for the job to start, having moved furniture, light fixtures, wall electrical plates, drapes and obvious obstructions before the workers arrived. This handyman was chosen because he could provide both dry wall repair and painting. His bid for the job was fair but the completed overall work by his crew was below average more due to the painting including lack of care in the preparation and detailing. We are left to do lots of touch up areas around moldings, window and door casings, in the rooms that were painted.

From the beginning, Alan was methodical, communicative and prompt. He showed up to give us an estimate and answered my numerous questions about the job at hand. By the end of the same day of his initial visit, we had a detailed estimate in email, which we approved. Our house was remodeled in the past with uniqueness and quality materials in mind, but with 80% completion on many aspects. We needed a contractor who could help complete our unique vision. Alan replaced a large area of cedar shakes on the back of our home, helping erase the evidence of a decayed deck we previously removed. He also crafted a solution for a corner where the previous homeowner didn't seal up the house properly. Alan was organized and gave great attention to detail. He communicated his arrival and departures each day, and ended up finishing ahead of schedule. I am super happy with the level of attention that was paid to each detail of the job, and will hire Alan again for a future project.
