Danco Builders have become the slumlords of Humboldt County. They are so buisy investing in more…read moreand more properties (including the entire town of Manilla) that they are unable to invest manpower or money in up-keeping the properties they are already managing. Their tenants tend to be poor hard working families who can't afford legal aid and have received threats that if anyone is to seek legal aid that "Dan will make their life a living hell." Their properties are built taking as many shortcuts as possible including not insulating walls correctly and in some cases leaving the ground Flores as cement slabs, no padding, no carpets or vinal floors. The apartment spaces they are building are becoming smaller and more cramped. The properties that they have had the longest are in need of repairs but "there is no budget" is the common answer. There are not enough security measures taken. Management is often unreliable or unreachable. The landscapers and maintenance people are spread too thin between all the properties that they have squired over the past few years. The price used to be fair but this year, during covid, they raised the rent by $100 on some properties despite the fact that they are providing less services, the buildings are molding, the garbage containers are unmanageable, parents are not held responsible for their children's actions, vandalism/robbery/and property damage have become a regular daily experience for tenants. Dan seems very hands off and does not hold up the written expectations of how management should behave. They are renting to people who have violence and drug issues. They are not providing a safe trustworthy environment in which to discuss issues. Instead they have started virtual town hall meetings that create animosity between neighbors and between management and tenants. When I first came across one of the properties 20 years ago, it was a beautifully kept property with extremely responsible management and a security guard on sight. The edible landscapes were up-kept and there was enough dumpsters for everyone's refuse. This is no longer the case. Our poor land lady is now managing three properties which is not working out well. There is trash all over the property due to kids, overflowing dumpsters, dumpster divers and homeless dumpster-divers and dwellers that live among the treeline of the property. When witnessing violations of the lease and reporting said offences are dismissed by management. Like smoking on the property, drug use, ignoring curfews, destruction of community property, bullying, unsupervised children, dogs off leash, etc. Moral of the review Danco is not what they used to be ... And they are stretching their employees too thin. Overworked and underpaid. Very dissatisfied with living in these complexes. So much room for improvement! Their investors should be made aware of how their investments are being misspent.

I found Travis through the Yelp "My projects" section where I was trying to find a contractor to help us fix a leak in our guest bedroom. We couldn't find where the leak was coming from and I was trying to get price estimates from different contractors to solve the problem. Most of the contractors said they couldn't give a real estimate till they started doing the full project which seemed understandable. What stood out about Travis though is that he made the effort to say for $100 he would assess the issue by cutting out a piece of my drywall and give me a proper estimate. My fiancé and I were on board and happy to see someone take initiative like Travis. Travis then went on to find a pinhole leak in one of our old copper pipes and he right away gave us an estimate that was much more reasonable than other contractors we spoke with. Travis went on to fix our leaky pipes and found out that we replaced the wrong pipe. There was a pipe above the one we saw that was actually the cause of the leak. Travis messaged me and said that he would only charge for the additional pieces (no additional labor for his work), which was super generous and understanding of him. We got this repair done and out of the way in an efficient manner thanks to Travis' diligence. My fiance and I are now having Humboldt Renovation help us replace carpet in our house for "hardwood" vinyl, replacing our shower, and putting in a new dryer vent. I additionally want to add that I has also asked him to replace both of our garage door openers which we signed up to do and later on found out it was covered through our home warranty program. Even though I already signed for Travis to do the work, he was very understanding and let us get the repair done instead by our home warranty service. Humboldt Renovation and Design will be the only contractor we will be using around our house. He is a great person with a sweet family and does great work. Thank you Travis!!!

I was pleasantly surprised that the the owners of Humboldt Handyman responded to my email so quickly. I am thinking that all the handymen are quite busy after the earthquake. The owners came over to our house to assess the damage. The are professional and friendly. The following day they sent over a crew member who was very skilled, conscientious, and personable. He attached the bookcase to the wall quickly and confidently. I am very impressed with Humboldt Handyman. I will call them again if we have work for them. I enthusiastically recommend them!

Blaine Jr comes through and does a long winded presentation that makes you feel like the company will be professional. I needed my sunroom roof redone since it was leaking. In actuality, the whole sunroom probably needed to be replaced. The sunroom was switched from glass to plastic per my request. He told me during our long meeting that I would be able to discuss it more when the crew came in. I came home and they had already started and no discussion was had with me about anything. I figured they knew what they were doing so I just went with it. The next day I came home and there was double the amount of support beams that blocked out a good amount of sun. I found this odd as the plastic is significantly lighter than the glass that was previously there. I feel like he forgot he was using plastic and planned it for the glass. I paid for more wood that wasn't needed and the sunroom does not look as good with all the extra beams. It also started to leak within a couple months again and the crew had to come back out and fix it. They changed it up a little and added weather strip that looks forever to come in. I'm a few years out now and the sunroom is leaking again and every time I look at how many beams there are up there I'm upset again about the whole thing. I should have waited and replaced the entire sunroom and gone with someone else. On top of it, I felt like Blaine Jr was dismissive, condescending, and kind of a know it all.
